It is a waste of time to discuss BBC support of APIs. They don't talk to individuals only companies and organisations. The 1 May 2018 date was given in a BBC post somewhere - presumably it is the end date of some contract BBC have with some 3rd party. Things may stop on 1 May 2018 or they may not so there is no point fretting about it. If something happens at some point in the future, it may be possible to do something sometime like last year but there is no new information. The schedule APIs did go away last year - the BBC hacked the Programme API into a bodged up feed of all program data for all times into one "file" and the Extra plugin filters and organises it and it is this feed that may go away. For me, using Safari 10.1.1 on MacOS 10.12.5, it's still the case that if you right-click on a shortened url in this forum and choose the only relevant option, "Copy Link", and then paste it somewhere, you get just the shortened version. Do it in Chrome or Opera, and you're offered "Copy Link Address", and in Firefox "Copy Link Location", and that will deliver the full url when you paste. So with 1.5.* each chunk GET has a response time of about 80ms compared to 1.4.* about about 200ms - to start playing a live stream usually involved filling buffer with multiple chunks GETs. HTTP 1.1. with single TCP also has less load on OS - one TCP connection for a stream vs 1 TCP connection every 6 secs when steady. I think I left a menu at the the very bottom of iPlayer menu with a Flac test stream with robotic voice - make sure you have live pref set to DASHFlac > DASH to play it. Well I've taken the plunge to get iPlayer Extras 2.0.0, I'm using that and iPlayer 1.5.4.4. They are both working fine with LMS 7.8.0 on my WHS v1 Atom N270 based server. I have noticed that Dash 320kbps AAC streams (I don't use anything else) start faster than 1.4.10. In particular they start in one go, with 1.4.10 I got a brief burst of music then a quick re-buffer then the music came back and ran continuously. Now it just starts and plays, which is an improvement since getting to the "just plays" is faster even if there is a slightly longer initial delay (or maybe I'm imaginging that). Radio 3 FLAC doesn't work of course, I expected that it's all turned off at the BBC end. I am told on the get_iplayer mailing list that when FLAC comes back for the Proms it will be for all Radio 3 output 24/7, not just the Proms. When you say BBC indicate this API "will die 1 May 2018", will there likely be a usable replacement or will this functionality just disappear ? Thanks as always - working well in New York. I note with interest that (for example) "A Dancer in the Dark" appears on both the A and D pages, and titles beginning with "The" are similarly listed twice. If you have a favorite program that is a brand rather than a series - then custom entries can be added to the plugin's default.opml file. Find the program page on BBC web site and then select the option "See all episode from ". This will open a page with a list of episodes available on iPlayer. The URL of this page is of the form below. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006tmq9/episodes/player Identify the pid - shown in red (in the example it is b006tmq9). This pid is key to creating your own menu option. edit with a text editor the BBCiPlayerExtra fil default.opml and create an entry similar to below with your own pid. After you saved the updated default.opml file, there is no need to restart LMS - just go back to top level menu in LMS - the plugin re-reads the default.opml when the "BBCiPlayerExtra" menu is selected. Below are examples for "Geoffrey Smith's Jazz", "Moral Maze", "Through the Night" and "In our Time". The key pid is highlighted in red. Announce: BBCiPlayerExtra v2.0 BBCiPlayerExtra - a plugin to provide additional menus for BBCiPlayer for Categories, A-Z and less functional successor to BBCiPlayerExtra 1.0 This is a plugin which works with BBCiPlayer plugin (which must be installed separately). As a sop after killing off the APIs which provides programme info per station and genre, the BBC left two APIs which provides info on programmmes by title and by genre but it is for ALL TV & Radio. BBC have said these "new" API will die 1 May 2018. The "latest" API feeds are slow to respond as they cover whole Iplayer database. The APIs are also paginated which means after filtering out TV programmes some "pages" may only have a few entries or possible empty. Because some categories have very many entries e.g. "Arts & culture" over 20k, Factual over 17k, News over 31k and Music over 3k - the results are paginated (i.e BBC only returns a small number at a time). The entries in OPML have ability to have filter added to restricted titles and stations so users can customise to somewhat minimise unwanted entries. The filters are used to provide the per station title menus.
