Just to close, I tried switching from the hardware settings ( e.g. ~ [NForce 0,1] )to using Java Sound Layer as suggested a few posts ago. I'm in this boat too. I am using two sound cards and will try to figure out if using the Java Sound Layer helps as mentioned above. I found something that mitigates this problem. At least on the two linux systems I use, Gentoo and Ubuntu 7.04. I simply changed the Audio mixer in softsqueeze from my sound card to Java Sound Audio Engine. Time went by and I upgraded to Ubuntu 7.04 and SoftSqueeze 3.4. I hoped the problem would go away, but it persists. The bug report seems to go unnoticed by anyone with a better understanding of the inner workings of SoftSqueeze. I'm transferring here with this issue from the Linux forum, where I've been discussing it without realising till now that others were experiencing similar problems with SoftSqueeze itself. My experience is that pressing and holding 'Pause' on the SQ 'remote' causes SQ to freeze. Also, the 'Search' button does not trigger LazySearch as it should - it does nothing - though I can start LazySearch OK from the Plugins menu via the 'remote'. Curiously, if I use the alternative 'Help' screen java applet instead of SQ, LazySearch does work; but the applet, too, freezes when I try to stop a track with the 'Pause' button. I have deleted the Java cache, and reinstalled SQ, but that does not resolve the problem (though it did reinstate SQ after it had stopped working completely.) A little more info: The pc where I have the freeze-problem is running kernel 2.6.20-12. It's running Java: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_11-b03, mixed mode, sharing) On my Slimserver-machine im running Ubuntu 6.06, kernel 2.6.15-27-386 and Java: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing). I don't have any problems running SoftSqueeze on this machine (I can skip to next song without freeze). I've tried with a fresh install of slimserver after removing .pref and db files with the same result. Hi, I couldn't have sated it better my self. I'm having exactly the same problem. I have tried with different JREs, but it doesn't help. It works fine to use Softsqueeze from other Edgy Eft installations with my server... Well I had a slightly different but related problem. I'm running Slimserver 6.5.1 on Win XP and Softsqueeze (latest version) and I had Softsqueeze freeze on me, too.. exactly same - doesnt react to keypresses on the remote and display is frozen. Hi, I am trying out SoftSqueeze 3.3 on Ubuntu Linux 6.10 (Edgy Eft). It is running against Slimserver version 6.5.2 on Ubuntu Dapper. I can operate SoftSqueeze flawlessly as long as I don't skip to the next or previous song. The consequence is that SoftSqueeze hangs with a frozen display and doesn't react to keypresses on the remote. I have to kill it and start it again. I'm using Sun JRE 1.5.0.08 as distributed with Edgy Eft.
