Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze question: connection problem

2007-03-21 Thread Mark Belden

I've been getting a message that says softsqueeze freezes on connecting
to squeezebox whenever I open softsqueeze. This has been happening
since I upgraded to slimserver 6.5.1. I have tried every suggestion on
here, including uninstalling softsqueeze and then installing
softsqueeze 2.3, all to no avail. The controls are frozen and the
message never changes from the connecting to squeezebox message.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze question: connection problem

2007-03-20 Thread curly

I did the same as BigTony ie. changed 'Preferences Skin Display
Style (drop down list) from Transporter to any other option or run
Softsqueeze headless. That's it.

This is with Softsqueeze3.3 on win and ubuntu (from the dl'ed zip) and
Slimserver on Ubuntu P4, 1gig ram AND another Slimserver on a windows
box on the same subnet. I'm able to use the discovered host names in
the drop down without having to enter the actual ip addy of the
Slimservers.

Really odd that a skin would have that effect but I don't know much
about anything and even less about java.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze question: connection problem

2007-03-13 Thread worrab

Had a similar problem...

1) Found I had two instances of SlimServer running on my Linux Box.
(ps -A|grep slimserver showed four processes instead of two)

2) changed the Slimserver Hostname from http://192.168.1.103:9000 and
replaced it with 192.168.1.103

One of these two fixed it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze question: connection problem

2007-03-12 Thread BigTony

I setup Slimserver and softsqueeze this weekend, and at first I also
couldn't get it to work on any PC other than the one the server was
on.

However, I switched the skin to Squeezebox, (rather than the default
Transporter), turned on the debug options, and as if by magic it all
started to work correctly.

No idea why, btu then again this is a network toy, and experience has
told me that simply switching all the nobs and dials randomly
eventually makes the network sing and dance for you.

Other than that, you original post described my situation exactly!
Everything appeared to be finme, just it was working and came up with
the Check your settings error on the transporter screen.

If this helps, then great, if not I hope you find a solution soon.

BT

PS I plan to buy the hardware version as I'm very happy with the SW
one.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze question: connection problem

2007-03-01 Thread Dpfels

Right. So it looks like I have this working, at least part way. I can
log in to a server running under WinXP SP2 using Softsqueeze running on
a Mac (OSX 10.4.x). Both are running the most current server and client
software.
However, I am unable to log into the Linux machine. The error message
says that it cannot use the version of the server software (6.3.1-I am
using an older version because it takes fewer resources on this
particular machine). I have not yet found a work-around.

I am not entirely sure what changed, but I think it was essential to
use the actual IP address rather than the name of the server that
appeared on the pop-up list in the SoftSqueeze prefs menu.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze question: connection problem

2007-02-28 Thread Dpfels

Hi,
Oddly enough, I turned on one of the debug flags on Softsqueeze an
discovered that it was attempting to connect with an address that was
completely different from the one named in the Networking panel of the
Preferences. There was a choice of two names-each relating to a
slimserver device on my network (one PC and one Linux). However, when
I turned on the Slimproto (verbose) debug option, it claimed to be
attempting to connect with an IP address that was nowhere on my
network.
When I entered the correct IP address specifically, it continued to
have trouble, only this time it was complaining about not reaching the
port on that machine (not port 9000- the other one which is around
3400). When I did a portscan of the server in question, that port was
open, so I am still not sure what the problem is.

I will definitely try reverting to an older version of SoftSqueeze and
see if that helps.
Thanks,
Dan

*bump*

Sorry to press this. I would very much like to know if my problem is
typical and if there is a workaround.

Even a brief answer from an experienced SoftSqueeze user would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I have exactly the same problem. Softsqueeze will run fine on the same

my shiny new MacBook Pro! It 'sees' the servers (I have one running on
an Infrant box also) but won't connect.

localhost:9000 doesn't connect either

Any ideas? I really don't want to use iTunes (esp. as it is not FLAC
friendly!)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze question: connection problem

2007-02-22 Thread Dpfels

Hi,
I am trying to test my setup before I buy a Squeezebox. I have
installed the slim server on three different systems: a Mac (OSX
10.4.x) a PC (WinXP SP2) and a Linux machine (Olive Musica). I am
trying to see if I can stream files off of any of these systems to
another using Softsqueeze as a client.

Softsqueeze works fine internally on a single machine. I can see my
iTunes library on the WinXP machine (from Softsqeeze) and play music.
However, I am unable to use Softsqueeze on the PC to log into the Mac
or Linux box. Similarly, the Mac version of Softsqueeze does not
connect with either the PC or the Linux machine.

I get a list of slimservers on Softsqueeze, so the servers are running.
Also, a port scan of the Linux machine, at least, reveals that it is
running on ports 3483 and 9000.

I have also noticed that the Softsqueeze error log sometimes states
that there was a dropped connection with the server. Otherwise, the
Softsqueeze display only says that it is looking for servers.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan
