OK, I think I have now become aware of this. After a session of extended playback, I noticed a few pause/unpauses occurring. These were at approximately 30 minute intervals this morning. Duration of pause is probably a second or two. Radio log shows audio underrun. This is with BBC Sounds, ar presumably 320k in the UK. This may be what @christianhunt reports. Ill have to pay more attention, and perhaps compare against earlier firmware. mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113479 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Yes the radio actually pauses the stream, until the output buffer fills a bit then resumes. Occasionally, this pause/unpause happens several times before the stream stabilizes, which could sound similar to stuttering when you first start a stream. I've not had it happen afterwards. The original AAC decoder in the official firmware does not tax the CPU in the radio as much as the open source variant I'm using now. It would be good to test if a Touch exhibits the same issue with the BBC sounds streams. It has a higher powered CPU and more memory and I've not been able to recreate the issue with a Touch and my test AAC stream. I know you don't have Touch or at least didn't, but perhaps someone with a Touch in the UK could try it with the latest firmware. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
Hi all. I am one of the two 'bug reporters' mentioned by expectingtofly. In case it's helpful, the 'stuttering' sounds to me like momentary disruption to the audio stream - as if the audio is glitching or skipping slightly. It's not regular, it's more random. It's a little hard to describe but I hope that makes sense of it. It doesn't happen all the time - it seems like the stream either has a problem or doesn't. It's not that it's stopping and needing to have 'play' pressed again, and it's not resetting in the middle of a stream - which I would define as either starting at the beginning of the stream again, or pausing for a few seconds and then resuming. There is no buffering shown on the radio, and the breaks or glitches in audio are in bursts of very short amounts of time - much less than a second, for example. I should also say that I am in the US, so if high quality streams are limited to the UK, I won't be getting them. Forcing AAC transcoding to flac on the server under Settings-> Advanced-> File types (per expectingtofly's suggestion) resulted in no stuttering - but as it doesn't happen reliably it's hard to be totally confident that addressed it. Just to reconfirm - LMS 8.3.0 via lmscommunity/logitechmediaserver docker, Running on a server that seems to have plenty of memory and CPU power, Playing on a Squeezebox Radio, latest community firmware - 8.0.1 r16907 Hope this helps, and happy to add any further info if useful. christianhunt's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=73177 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113479 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Which works on the whole. However these 2 bug reports are reporting something different, prolonged stuttering happening at any point, including live radio. Which I can't reproduce. But the 2 reports are in agreement about the same problem, and they are both using the community firmware. But as I say, it just may be coincidence. Interestingly, I remember when I implemented the throttling that the problem was easily reproducible. The odd thing now is, with this latest release of the firmware, I can't reproduce the problem at all, even if I set the throttling to zero, effectively turning it off. (Although i can see the impact the throttling has on the speed the input buffer on the radio fills up) So, the fact is they are getting the stuttering even with the throttling suggests this isn't the same issue at all, and something else is happening on their radio affecting the CPU time available for decoding. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
I implemented the AAC decoder for squeezeplay and later the community firmware as Logitech never released the code as they used the closed source fdk-aac library in the official firmware. I have spent some time investigating this issue but had to setup a local server that streams AAC 320Kbps at 48KHz as unfortunately the high rate BBC streams aren't available outside the UK. What's happening is the aac decoder can't push enough decoded PCM data to the output buffer at the start of the high rate streams and jive_alsa throws an underrun error. So far I have been able to mitigate this problem using this patch to Playback.lua on the radio. This change stopped the stuttering about 95% of the time with my test stream. Code: --- share/jive/jive/audio/Playback.lua.orig 1969-12-31 19:00:00.0 -0500 +++ share/jive/jive/audio/Playback.lua 2022-06-20 08:49:07.469506981 -0400 @@ -908,6 +908,11 @@ -- Even this may not be enough for files with large comments... self.decodeThreshold = self.threshold + elseif self.mode == 'a' then + -- For fdk-aac, we need to let the decoder fill the pcm output + -- buffer, otherwise alsa immediately throws an underrun error. + self.decodeThreshold = 40960 + elseif self.threshold > (254 * 1024) and (self.mode == 'f' or self.mode == 'p' or self.mode == 'l') then -- For lossless (high bit-rate) formats, lets try to get a much bigger chunk so that -- any server-side delay in streaming caused by playlist updates, etc., do not cause undue problems. I should also add, I can't reproduce the problem either. I also have 2 radios on the latest firmware. But the 2 bug reports were very similar, including how they are set up server side. I suspect/guess the data is being available to the radios more readily in their setup and for some reason the radio is not finding an opportunity to decode from the input to the output buffer, causing the stuttering. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
I have had a couple of bugs raised on the BBC Sounds Plugin repository relating to audio stuttering : https://github.com/expectingtofly/LMS_BBC_Sounds_Plugin/issues/134 Both reports are using Squeezebox radio's with the community firmware. The BBC Streams are AAC 320kbs@48000, so quite high bitrate. They have provided server logs to me that shows that there are no issues getting audio data out server side (in fact the opposite is true). So it appears the problem is in the audio decoding on the radio. As I have had 2 reports of this problem, I wonder if this has anything to do with the AAC decoding changes in the new version of the firmware? Update Fraunhofer FDK AAC Codec Library v2.0.3 and remove encoder support. Due to my lack of technical knowledge, I am interpreting the above as it was updated and then removed. Of course, that conclusion does not any make sense. "Codec" stands for "code/decode". I assume the first part was removed: you can't encode in AAC any more, but you can still decode. ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
Apparently my post was removed somehow so let's try again. I am quite new to LMS and am trying to install the community firmware but my player is not seeing it. I am running LMS 8.3.0 - 66147463 and have installed the plugin and then went to the settings to to enable the plugin. I have changed player.firmware to debug but I do not see my player checking for an update. In LMS I have update checking enabled. Do I just need to wait longer? Is there a way to force it to check for updates? The button in LMS to check does not appear to trigger a check from the player. Maybe I can do it via ssh? Thanks in advance! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
So I am very new to LMS and squeezebox in general but am unable to see the community firmware update. I installed the plugin and went to the plugin settings to enable it after install. I changed player.firmware to debug but I do not see the radio checking for it. The first post mentions that we need to have check for update enabled, where is that setting? Maybe that is my issue. Also the first post mentions waiting 24 hours as the default setting, can that setting be changed? Thank you in advance! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
It seems to be an issue with the update. I got a new radio with the update installed. It had the problem from the beginning. After updating the other three radios to the community firmware, there is only one Radio left without the issue. It is the only one with an alarm activated. It seems not like a problem that will disappear. First thing in the bathroom in the morning is reconnecting the radio. This works simply by choosing the right network. It is not necessary to restart the device. The WiFi symbol is always red. One radio has a blue WiFi symbol after turning it on in the morning. Here the software does not work properly and a reboot is necessary. After the reboot the device finds the network at once and without reconnection. My SB Touch with Comuntity firmware works without any such issues. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
Dear all, I would like to come back to my thread. I am running LMS 8.2 on a PiCorePlayer. I updated my four radios to Firmware 8.0.1-r16867. I have a similar problem as descibed before. My WiFi turns off during the night and turns on in the early morning again. Two of my radios do not reconnect to the WiFi automatically. I have to search my network, select it and reconnect. This works fine, but the two other radios and the Touch do not have this issue. Is there a way to fix this? If not, I will leave my WiFi running during the nighttime. As noticed before, just two of four radios seem to be affected. And it just happens if WiFi was turned off during the night. The third one did loose connection today and showed the blue WiFi icon while it was not connedted. Here a restart was necessary. Everything else works fine. Thanks for developing the Community Firmware but there seems to be a WiFi bug. I will leave the WiFi online through this night and watch the situation tomorrow. From the changelog, I can sort of deduce that a lot is around AAC and WiFi issues - is that all that the firmware is about? I really succeeded in contacting bluegaspode, and however he doesn´t use the controller anymore he was so kind to change the version maximum - everything works fine. Hello Ralphy, Michael and all the others, Many thanks for doing this and keeping the sytem updated! It´s still the best system on the market to me and I enjoy it everyday. The firmware installed and run without problems on all my devices. However I miss one item on the controllers: I had the possibility to switch on the earphone jack via a small applet ("earphone switcher" by bluegaspode). I enjoyed using the controllers as mobile players. After the factory reset the possibility has vanished nor can I find the applet anymore nor switch on the earphones. Can this be fixed? Dear all, community firmware is working great. I noticed one issue yesterday when setting up the alarm clocks the first time. Configuration/setup: - SB Radio, community firmware 8.0.1 r16867 - Radio timezone set to GMT+1 - Alarm clock setup at 6:00 in the display -> the alarm rings at 7:00. So it seems that somehow the time comparison is not working correctly... I couldnt find anything suitable in the web... The same is the Radio would not automatically reconnect after a router reboot. Different is that for me repair network did not work. Currently, the Radio says memory is 53% free. My set-up is very basic, except for Community Firmware it is stock, so I do not know what would take up memory in the Radio. If it happens again, I will look to see what is available memory. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8
At my office, the WiFi router was turned off for several days while I was away. After turning the router back on, the SB Radio would not reconnect to my WiFi network. Attempts to use repair network failed. Attempts to select and connect to the WiFi network failed. I rebooted the radio. It did not automatically reconnect. I had to select the WiFi network and re-enter the password. It then worked. Running firmware 8.0.1-r16867. Most of the time I use the mysb.com server. I have noticed unpredictable behavior trying to reconnect to the WiFi network. Not sure if I could recreate the problem. If there are logs that could help, let me know.
