2015-05-14 Thread pinkdot

Its up to you but, if you're currently running ssods, LMS Repack isn't
using more resources. And, you don't need technical skills to add an url
in the Package Center ;-)

What version of lms are you running at the moment?
What DS do you have?
Is your nas connected to the internet?

So, you don't actally need to switch to LMS Repack. This is an option if
you are not comfortable in using SSODS because of the shell shock
vulnerability, or your system is not compatible with SSODS or aren't
able to install it.

Downside of LMS Repack is, you'll have to wait till I will update the
packages :-)
With SSODS you can decide yourself when to.

To answer your questions:
- LMS: v. 7.9.0-1428327734
- DS213 w/ DSM 5.1-5022 (haven't upgraded to 5.2 yet)
- NAS access only from home

The packages for 7.8.0 are updated to 7.9.0:
New thread here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103636-Test-Repo-for-LMS-7-9-0-on-Synology-DSM-5-*

If you like update the current 7.8.0 package to 7.9.0. It should be
available as an update in de DSM Package Center. If you experience any
issues updating:

- Remove the package
- Reboot your nas
- Install the LMS Repack version 7.9.0

Thanks for testing.

Thanks for that, pinkdot.

I'm very tempted to give your rep a try and leave SSODS but I hesitate
at the moment.
Besides my limited technical skills for implementing your repo I'm
asking myself if this will also work on arm5vte CPU Syno's? Or are they
underpowered?

Do you know that by chance?
Thanks in advance.

Waiting for 7.9 version integration to test it on my Synology 214.
Is there any drawback to expect vs SSODS (slower, more cpu consumption,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Test] Repo for LMS 7.8.0 on Synology DSM 5.*

2015-05-12 Thread marccccc

Hello pinkdot, hello all,

I have DS215+ (DSM 5.2-5565, LMS 7.7.3-042) and am not so familiar with
these repositories.

Some questions for once there is the final repository from your side
(7.9.0 I guess):

- Do I have to install the repository manually? or will this show up
in DMS as official LMS update?
- Will it be necessary to uninstall exisiting LMS first and then
install new LMS repositiory? Would that mean, that I have to redo all
  setting in the new LMS?
- Do I have to wait with later DMS updates? Or would 5.2-x ok and
  5.3-x not ok?
- Is there anything I should be aware of, since until now I only used
the provided standard updates within DSM?

Hoping that the questions and my general intention became clear and can
be answered.

Regards
Jacob

You have a DS215+ or a DS214+. I think the latter?

- Yes, you have to add the repository manually by adding the url in
the package center (see post 1).
- Yes, and yes. It's a good start to know all changes in 7.9.0 too.
  See changelog 7.9.0.
- You might, but I can't look into the future. DSM 5.2 ships with the
same official LMS packages as 5.0 and 5.1. May be 5.3 will too.
- That's it's an unofficial package, which comes with no guarantee
whatsoever ;-). Let's hope we can keep LMS alive on our nas this way.

Greetings,

Martin

I just received an alert from Synology for the official release of
DSM5.2, a good opportunity to test if the LMS installation with the
repack can go trough a new DSM installation without trouble (with SSODS,
i have to reinstall everything (SODS LMS) at each major DMS upgrade
 [emoji16]

Well, I'm not a coder and LMS Repack is based on pure logic, nothing
else. But it seems to work! All tests done by others here in the
communiry and on the Dutch Synology Forum are positive.

AFAIK there are no drawbacks, memory use is about 70 mb and overal it is
running smooth. Synology didn't change the LMS 7.7.3 package for DSM
5.2. They still ship it with the 42 version.

So yes, I think it means less hassle, no SSODS vulnerability, and the
latest version of LMS, 7.9.0.

Greetings

Martin

Hello Martin,

thank you very much for the answers and of course for all the effort
helping us so much with LMS repackaging.

One more question:
I added Name: LMS Repack
Location: http://lms-repack.pinkdot.nl/
as new source to the package center.
(The same way as I added Synology Community
http://packages.synocommunity.com.)

I simply wanted to see, if I see the package for the DS214+. I am fully
aware, that I would need to uninstall LMS first.
I do not see anything.
What am I doing wrong?

Regards
Jacob

Just created a repository for Logitech Media Server on Synology nas. I
repacked the latest official version of LMS provided by Synology. So
updated the package from 7.7.3 to 7.8.0. Most architectures are
supported. Just add the repo to your Package Center in DSM 5.0 or
higher.

You should probably use 7.9 right away ;-).

You're absolutely right Michael. I was to conservative to start off with
7.8.0. Will switch to 7.9.0 when I have the time, building 9 new packges
:-) Hopefully Synology isn't changing to much in its upcoming release
5.2 in two weeks time, so the spk' s will be usable for a while.
