Figured out how enter the zip so I can get forecasts working but mostly
happy I got my PWS current observations being displayed on my SB3's.

Okay, I got SDT working with my PWS, now have both of my SB3 displaying

The location you are trying to manually install in is reserved for
plugins installed via repository.  That's why it disappears on restart. 
Look on the LMS information tab in the browser for other locations for
plugins.

Your weather station data pulls correctly on my LMS system.  So it
appears the redirection error is related to your install.  Are you
getting redirection errors for any other URLs?

KCAMONRO2 or CW8284.

I thought WU would have disabled that.  If that still works I'd be
ecstatic! What does the URL look like?

BTW am I replying correctly?  I'm clicking on "Reply With Quote" on the
right bottom corner of each message but it doesn't look like it's
working as I would expect.  Also the title is always blank whereas I
would have expected it to start with the title of the message I'm
replying to.

The sdt-weather-com plugin can pull WU info.  It uses a legacy WU url
that pulls a comma delimited text file.  It does not require an API key.
If you let me know your WU PWS identifier I'll double check for you.

This won't work for me either.  The software package I use for my PWS
can only publish to WU and CWOP so I'm stuck until I can replace both
upload and download packages.  This has worked for 12+ years.

I got in touch with the developer for Weather4SB and he says he no
longer gets data from WU so this won't work for me unless I can also
change how my PWS data is published.

And better yet, in BOOMX2's weather.com version there is an option to
enter a Weather Underground PWS in the settings.  No API needed.  See
screen shot.  Nice!

Yes. One has to delete tcuttings Repo and deactivate his plugin. Then,
after entering BoomX2s Repo, the older version should appear.

I found if I uninstalled the WU version, then the old version showed up

IMHO you used the WU-Version forked by tcutting. The original version
uses weather.com and is still working fine.

I have the SDT Plugin.  It no longer works because it relied on weather
data provided by Weather Underground via the Weather Underground API. 
Weather Underground has discontinued this API, so the SDT Plugin has
nowhere to obtain weather data.

There still is the original SDT Plugin maintained by BoomX2. Have a look
in the 3D Party Software Forum for how to get it installed.

Now that looks very cool.  How does it work?  You get an account on
their website and configure your location and then configure the screen
saver to pull the updated image periodically?

If I had one of the supported players I'd pay for it but I had been
using the SB3 I got as a gift years ago and when it died I replaced it
and got an extra from ebay.  I wonder if your subscription was being
used to pay for a premium WU account or was it just accessing the data
for free which is probably why IBM decided to cut out the free access.

see any incentive for him to do.

I actually bought a used SB Touch off eBay to replace the old SB ver #1
that I use via Ethernet to feed my main room A/V system ( I use the
SPDIF output into my gear ...)  So my original very first SB, which has
served me faithfully lo these many years will be placed in mothballs

Yuppers, no more access even for PWS uploaders.  

My Squeezeboxes froze on Monday, 3/25/2019.  My understanding is they
were rolling out the deletions of the old API keys over the last few
weeks and then finally turned everything off.  I'd been holding off a
reboot of my server for several months so because I was afraid it would
not reconnect.  I did a reboot on Tuesday and it stalled on a file
system check so my weather station was offline for several hours until I
figured out the problem.  I'm tempted to turn off the upload to WU but
I'm still able to confirm my uploads via the web page but they changed
the website as well and it's pretty buggy still. 

I am not aware of any other plugins that will work so I am pretty
bummed.  I upload to CWOP but I haven't been able to figure out how to
download just current conditions, seems API via FindU will only return a
fairly large set of past measurements so I really don't want to query
every few minutes.

Try Super Date Time. It still works, but is not as pretty as WDT.

I am confused, because after I updated to the last Logitect Media Server
version (7.7.6 - 1521467459 @ Thu Mar 29 16:46:01 WEDT 2018) there does
not seem to be any way to set a screen saver to display a weather
forecast. Frankly I don't go into these settings often enough to
remember what they were on the prior version. What do you mean by
"changing the station number in SDT" - what is SDT?

Should I be installing a different open-source release of the Squeeze
Server software, and would it have a weather screen saver app plugin for
the Classic player?

The free API-keys issued before May 15 are still working. So if you have
one you can get data from Wunderground. But they deleted a lot of
stations from their map. All Netatmo-PWS, one of them I own, are no
longer supported. Maybe you should try a different station. 
I changed the station number in SDT and get weather data on all my
players.

Finally getting around to attempting to troubleshoot. I found this
announcement on Weather Underground

"NOTE: As of May 15, 2018, Wunderground and IBM have stopped providing
free API keys. :(   In order to use the Wunderground API, you first need
your own API key. Getting an API key is quick and free. Go to
http://www.wunderground.com/weather/api/?MR=1. Click 'Sign Up for
FREE!'."

So I suspect that my symptom started around May 15 2018.

Today I updated from SqueezeBox Server from 7.2 to 7.7.6 and then
checked the logs and settings trying to see if the weather forecast
would show up on my SqueezeBox Classic, but it is not. :(

In the server log I see this error -

Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1311) Warning: Weather::Wunderground: ERROR No
response from weather server while loading data: ERROR while getting
resource
http://api.wunderground.com/auto/wui/geo/ForecastXML/index.xml?query=MSN
: 500 Internal Server Error

When I open that URL in a web browser I get the following message on
wunderground.com's web site:

An error occured: backend failure


So... Any ideas how to fix this?

Per yesterday's post, here is a screenshot of my SDT Player settings
screen for my SB3.
Ignore the bottom settings for (display 2) - they are for Transporter
(which has two screens).

There are player-specific settings to configure your SB3, Boom or
Transporter displays (go to settings, player tab, and there should be a
pull-down to select the SDT settings for that player).
I may be able to post screen-shot later of my SB3 configuration screen -
the settings are not too intuitive (and I've never fully figured out how
to use them - I never changed that section of SDT in my update, short of
adding additional display strings which can be used to determine which
information you want to display).
The "size" button on your SB3 remote also changes the look of the
display (the size of the font used) - I think I always use the middle
size.

SDT certainly offers a lot more options!  I've got it running but
haven't figured out how to configure it just the way I want.  SDT is a
very cool plugin.  I'll have to sit in front of one of my Squeezeboxes
with a tablet and fiddle with the settings to see what / how I can
display things on my old SB1 and my SB3's.

I'm glad I found out about SDT.

Spoke too soon! Woke up this morning and watched it cycle from Rain to
Cloudy every 60 seconds (which is my Fetch Interval). Somethings very
worng with the data stream for this Plugin. Time for me to try SDT! Can
someone please point me to the current download link for SDT?

I have the same issues last weeks, after years of exellent functioning
of the plugin. Switched today to SDT. In fact it's quite easy to put the
information you like on the screen. And beside that you get very precise
information because you recieve information from a weatherstation in
your neighbourhood (the codes are in Wunderground), and not only from an
airport nearestby like in WDT. So I'll stick to SDT.

According to the listing for this plugin in the plugins list (see
sreenshot here below,) it uses data from Weather Underground do they
have some other way to supply this info aside from their API? Perhaps
Rehfeld put an API right into his code...?

wunderground.com does indeed have an API, but I suspect this particular
plugin doesn't use the API.  The reason I say this is that I created a
version of SuperDateTime a few years ago which does use the
wunderground.com API and 1) you need an API "key" to use it (with
limited accesses per day) and 2) I haven't seen or heard any recent
issues with the wunderground.com version of SuperDateTime (my instance
is working properly).

I've been using imperial units and MPH all along, and I get temperature
and wind data that seems accurate now but the forecast is wack.

Does anyone know how this plugin works?  I assume there's an XML sheet
some place that's used to parse the data from Wunderground's API... if
Wunderground has changed their API (which is what I suspect) maybe we
need to change the XML.Or something   ;-)


I wonder if there is a way to contact Wunderground to find out about
their API, has it changed, etc...?

I went to the Settings and changed mine from metric to imperial, and
also changed the wind speed to mph. Restarted LMS and it's working
properly (for the last 4 hours). Will reset to metric and kp/h after 24
hours and see what happens.

Oops, good spot!

I'm actually using both plugins, one on my SB3 (Weather, Date and Time)
and the other on my Boom (SuperDateTime), and I hadn't spotted that in
the log. I think I focused too much on the errors and got confused by
the fact they both use Wunderground.

I think the last 2 errors I posted are the ones related to this plugin.

However, it has started showing the weather again earlier today.

I can tell I'm getting data as it changes when I change location to
another city, but in each case the display is incomplete.  Just getting
"current" and "today" where typically I'd also get next two days.

Your issue is different. First, you are using SuperDateTime. Looks like
you initially had a networking issue. I suspect your latest issue may be
due to your specified weather station having dropped off for some
reason. Try specifying a different weather station.

I also emailed Martin and he sent me a similar reply. Curiously today I
got weather data for about 10 minutes and then it returned to the
question mark. I too agree that Wunderground must have changed, since we
all have different setups but the same problem.

I get the NO DATA question mark almost all the time now.  Did
Wunderground change their API or something?  Did the Wunderground API
key used by the plugin "expire" perhaps??

Is Martin Rehfleld still around / active with this plugin?

What do we do to fix this?
