Re: [pmwiki-users] Wiki maintenance

2013-08-30 Thread Patrick R. Michaud
First, I'll note that I don't see anything wrong with putting site
(pmwiki.org) maintenance details into the PmWiki/ group. It won't
automatically become part of the distribution.

On the other hand, there is the Site/ wikigroup which is explicitly
intended for site-specific documents, so perhaps Site/Maintenance or
Site/SiteMaintenance is where documents and notes about maintaining
the pmwiki.org site could go.

The main reason I'd give for not choosing to put it in is that it
doesn't seem to be an obvious place that people think of for it.
OTOH, perhaps we should start encouraging this as a pattern, perhaps
even going so far as to create a template/dummy page to be included
in the distributions.

For a category tag, I suggest [[!SiteMaintenance]].

WikiMaintenance was suggested, but that sounds a bit like smurf-naming

I was asking because there isn't a page in the wiki with this information

It should not go into Core distribution, as it pertains to the maintenace

Since there seems to be only a small handful of pages with the
[[!Maintenace]] tag on them, and there is a page Cookbook.Maintenance --
which is, unsurprising, not named so in order to draw attention and have
itself fixed, as much as it is _about_ maintaining the cookbook -- I will
probably double-check any existing tag of [[!Maintenance]] to see if it
should be changed to [[!NeedsMaintenance]] or [[!NeedsAttention]] or
[[!UpdateMe]] (they aren't the same -- one is definitely needs change, one
is asking for another set of eyes), as will as creating a page about
 Maintaining the wiki.

Oh, dear, it seems I've accidentally wakened an Elder God!

The Site group sounds reasonable, as does [[!SiteMaintenance]]] - which
doesn't smell remotely like SmurfNaming.

I should have thought of that before - I use pages in my own Site group for
notes about the specific site.

The main reason I'd give for not choosing to put it in is that it
doesn't seem to be an obvious place that people think of for it.

That's what search and cross-reference linking is for.

When you find out we could add it to
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/DocumentationGuidelines

Note also
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/PmWikiPhilosophy

I don't see why it shouldn't go in PmWiki group, not all pages in the group
go in the release, if you felt it is specific to PmWiki.org itself

Or is that assumption (pages bundled for distro) incorrect, and PmWiki/ is
 the best location?
