Note that the border MX host for earthlink.net are operated by
a separate provider:

earthlink.net. IN MX 5 mx01.oxsus-vadesecure.net.
earthlink.net. IN MX 5 mx02.oxsus-vadesecure.net.
earthlink.net. IN MX 5 mx03.oxsus-vadesecure.net.
earthlink.net. IN MX 5 mx04.oxsus-vadesecure.net.

Otherwise known as Vade Secure:

https://www.vadesecure.com/en/

which likely means that "Vade Secure", not Earthlink implement the
underlying filtering methods. With sufficiently many 3rd-parties in the
forwarding chain, resolving issues can get complicated... :-(

I don't personally have any earthlink.net correspondents, so no direct
experience of either getting through or not.

Jason,

Maybe your sending domain has no TXT record for SPF checks.
Or your sending IP is not listed in the record.

This appears to be a common qmail patch bug. The correct status
code for user unknown is 5.1.1, not 5.1.0.

RFC 3463:

X.1.1 Bad destination mailbox address

The mailbox specified in the address does not exist. For
Internet mail names, this means the address portion to the left
of the @ sign is invalid. This code is only useful for
 permanent failures.

You probably will need to check the qmail server's log to see
WTF is going on. If you stare at the log in the qmail server (not in
the postfix server) and it does not make sense, you will need to hit a
qmail-related mailing list/irc channel for help.

If you are not the one running the qmail box, find who is and send the
logs. And maybe paraphrase Stan's last reply.

Your Postfix relayed the msg to smtp.secureserver.net, which then
returned 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected. Either you're sending to a non
existent address, or there is some configuration problem at the remote
MX. You'll need to contact the administrator of the remote system.
This is not a Postfix problem. Postfix is only generating the NDR.

RFC5321 says it is. It means the MAIL FROM or one of the RCPT TO commands was
invalid or used unimplemented features.

(Why that's done in response to DATA and not at MAIL FROM or RCPT TO is
puzzling, though.)

The server is poorly configured, because the 555 code is not followed
by text. However, all reply codes starting with 5 mean that the
server will not accept the mail.

According to RFC5321,

4.1.1.11. Mail-Parameter and Rcpt-Parameter Error Responses

If the server SMTP does not recognize or cannot implement one or more
of the parameters associated with a particular MAIL FROM or RCPT TO
command, it will return code 555.

And in the examples section:

555 MAIL FROM/RCPT TO parameters not recognized or not implemented
