[PPower4] dumb questions from a dumb guy
Hi, I was trying to experiment with the pp4. I started by downloading and installing the tu-darmstad software on my PC, then -- to get more familiar with the thing -- I used an example stored in the MiKTeX (texmf\doc\latex\pdfslide\manual.tex) directory by that Indian guy Radhakrishnan. I converted the original pdf file (found in the same directory) with the help of pp4 without any trouble. Then I tried to convert some (step-by-step) presentation of my own and I failed. I am getting a message (see below) that I don't understand (I know nothing about java, I am sorry). Exactly the same message appears if I compile the Radhakrishnan.'s tex file on my computer and try to process the resulting pdf with the PP4. Here it comes: Exception in thread main java.lang.Class castException: java.lang. String at com.etymon.pj.PdfParser.parsePdfParser.java:353 at com.etymon.pj.PdfParser.getObjectsPdfParser.java:41 at com.etymon.pj.Pdf.readFromFilePdf.java:789 at com.etymon.pj.Pdf.initPdf.java:53 at de.tu_darmstadt.sp.pp4.PP4Pages.workPP4Pages.java:718 at de.tu_darmstadt.sp.pp4.PP4Power.mainPPower4.java:174 Press any key... I understand that something essential is wrong in my installation (Java? PP4?) or ??? a simple (and oldish) physicist, an old-time LaTeX addict, I am a bit lost at the modern computer wizzardy. Re: [PPower4] pause.sty and vertical spacing
Jean-Christophe Dubacq writes: Often enough, when using slides with ppower4 and little vertical space, I am bothered by the fact that \pause corrupts the vertical spacing (ie it does not act as equivalent to \let\pause\relax). I must take care to put my \pause in awkward places (before \end{itemize}, e.g.) because if put after in inserts more vertical space. Is it possible to change this ? This would be a great gain for pause.sty. Indeed that would be nice. But I do not have an idea how to achieve that. The problem is that \pause inserts something into the resulting pdf/dvi output stream to control the post processor. Thus there is some care needed to place the uses properly, because TeX may insert glue before or after the almost invisible \pause, if you do not take care. Because of this the manual suggests to put the \pause close to printed material. I am sorry for not being able to offer a better solution.
