Re: Vista & USB
I agree. Those who watch CNBC in the morning for the stock market reports are aware of their recent 'upgrade' to the flashy graphics with the annoying sound effects. It used to be so loud that I had to turn it off. I guess they got so many complaints that they had to tone it down a little, but it is still obnoxious. CNBC needs to get rid of the fat blond with the young kids 'for a lack of a better word' and all the other obnoxious comments. She has 2 minutes with a guest and she takes 1.45 minutes to ask a question so convoluted and full of twisted, stupid logic that the person being interviewed has no idea what to say. Her laugh is like a choking chicken. God!, who approves this garbage? They obviously do not use the product. What idiot comes up with that garbage? What idiot approves it? Fire the bastard. Give us some relief from the pain. Around the mid 1980's we got a Sharp copier that copied 20 copies per minute. That was very fast back then and this monster took up a lot of space and cost $1,000 for routine maintenance. It had a horribly obnoxious female voice that talked to you while you were copying. How stupid and irritating! They obviously did not do any pre-release testing. At least Sharp included a switch so you could turn the obnoxious devil off. Now comes Microsoft. Late to the party with a bad plan. - Original Message - From: "Ed Leafe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "ProFox Email List" Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2007 7:55 AM Subject: Re: Vista & USB On Feb 1, 2007, at 10:43 AM, Jeff Johnson wrote: > My personal opinion - It's pretty and flashy. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Andrew Stirling Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 6:06 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Vista & USB Hi Just got this from my ISP, Orange in the UK "If however you are planning on buying a new PC, or upgrading your existing one to Windows Vista, we need to make you aware that it may have an impact on your Orange broadband service, as your USB modem might not work." Oops! -- Andrew Stirling 01250 874580 http://www.calcpay.co.uk HMRC Accredited UK payroll program Andrew: I upgraded a machine to Vista for R&D and to get ready in case one of my customers decides to upgrade. There is a link on the Microsoft site - I tried to find it for you, but couldn't put my finger on it - that will inspect your PC and notify you of anything that needs to be upgraded for Vista. It identified my network card only. Once I upgraded - my modem, my network card and my sound system did not work at all. It did tell me to upgrade my network card before upgrading, but my network card is on the motherboard and there are no new drivers for it. That's no big deal because I will put in a new card. Then I can download drivers for the modem and sound card. Most of my applications are VFP7 and they run and look fine - so far. There are some adjustments that need to be made, but they mainly deal with path issues. Doug Hennig did a nice blog on the Vista paths. My personal opinion - It's pretty and flashy. My wife (a web developer) says the way the windows appear and disappear makes her dizzy. She also has a really nice laptop that uses at work that is only six months old. The compatibility program I mentioned above says her laptop video card, network card and a lot of the software they use for work will not work with Vista. So for her, there won't be an upgrade. For me there won't be an upgrade, either; though I will run all of my applications and software on it to make sure everything works. So far I don't see any compelling reason for the upgrade. I will be interested to hear what others have to say about Vista. Re: Vista & USB
I've got loads of warnings over incompatibility with the Vista/Office 2007/IE 7 trio. Most of the bacs and accounts systems I know of wont work with any or all three. You would have thought given the time available to test and upgrade things would be better. -- Michael Hawksworth Visual Fox Solutions [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.foxpro.co.uk ___ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
