I'm just using the stocked Dyns3 compressor, and then the EQ 3/7 band E Q.
Literally nothing more, nothing less. Then the Air Non-Linear Reverb on the
basic medium preset, with the wet mix cranked a little higher. I think I did
roughly 24.0 or so.

Then, just lots of good automation both on volume and on panning.

If you all would like to actually see the session itself, let me know. I
still have it.

Appeal to members, before this group goes down the drain

2015-09-07 Thread Nickus de Vos
Hi all
Something slightly different and off topic if I may, though I feel this is
quite important and sorry if the subject line seams a bit dramatic or strong.

Firstly let me say I’ve been a member of this great group for quite a few years
now, but I’ve only really been a active reader and contributor the last few
months since I have been really getting in to Pro-Tools and bought my own.

I don’t know who the founding father and moderator of this group is, though I
suspect it’s Slau, and I hope this post sits well with him, please see it as
sort of a recommendation or suggestion from my side, it’s not at all a attack
on the group.

Especially in the last while there has been more and more off topic messages
and threads on this group. Sometimes on topic and very useful topics goes
totally off topic in the same message thread and sometimes totally off topic
threads also include some useful bits. The end of this is that people must read
through everything in order to make sure that they’re not missing any useful
bits and this can be quite frustrating, especially if having to read through 10
off topic messages just to find one single useful sentence somewhere in there.
I can also see this becoming more of a problem in future if someone works
through the archives to find something specific, they would have to sift
through pages of junk just to find useful technical info on Pro-Tools
accessibility.

I am part of quite a few different Facebook groups, Google groups and forums on
different topics and some just general chatter platforms. What I found was that
most of these need some kind of moderation to keep things on topic and to keep
posters in line, otherwise the entire group or forum just becomes a huge mine
field with people having to dig through pages and pages of useless chatter just
to find the important bits, in the end this also results in people leaving the
forum or group because it totally degraded in to a platform for general chat
and everything off topic.

I believe in order to keep this group the great source on Pro-Tools
accessibility that it currently is, we as members should try keep this as on
topic and as relevant as possible, there are plenty other forums all over the
internet to discuss other things non Pro-Tools accessibility related. For
example there is the Applevis website and forums for general Apple and
Voiceover related topics, there’s also the Mac Visionaries Google group. There
are tons of forums and resources all over the web on general audio and gear
related topics, the same goes for other things you would want to discuss,
ranging in anything from your dogs health to the International Space Station.

My suggestion is that we as members work together to keep this on topic, to
continue building this group in to the great resource it is for current and
future Voiceover and Pro-Tools users. There are lots of experts on here with
years of knowledge, similarly there are lots of PT novices on here, there are
lots of professionals on here and also lots who only do this for fun, let’s
keep this on topic and keep learning from each other.

Nickus

Re: Appeal to members, before this group goes down the drain

2015-09-07 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Nickus,

Excellent points and I agree with you completely. Yes, the topics should be
specifically Pro Tools related. Posting general information links and such
should be discouraged or, at the very least, presented without comment with a
very clear subject line and no further discussion, although I'd prefer it if it
directly related to Pro Tools. This is not really a forum for general
discussion. The Internet is for that and people should be responsible for their
own research and learning. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention,
perhaps pointing out the obvious and hopefully people will renew their attempts
to keep things concise and only pertaining to Pro Tools as it relates to
VoiceOver.

Oh, an no more philosophical waxing from me :)

Hi, concerning the iLok and Pro Tools The issue was resolved. For any
reason the person I asked indeed wasnt able to drag and drop the licenses
to the iLok. But now I'm sure it worked because Pro Tools alowd to insert
my user name plus password.
This iLokPro Tools license procedure it's incomprehensibly unnecessary!
Actually, exist the contradiction of Avid developer investing on the Pro
Tools accessibility, which we must congratulate, but allowing this hole
to the blind client to fall down is just not understandable.
I cant understand why the license manager must be totally unaccessible!
This drags a Pro Tools blind client to a very unconfortable start.
Well, a hard start will make me stronger, believe me, I lerned a lot.

Re: Ilok and Finally Started Pro Tools for the first time!

2015-09-07 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Honestly, at this point, I may really get my ass kicked for saying this, but
I've actually been hearing this for more than a year. Almost now, 2! years. I
know Slau said it would get fixed, but I keep hearing deadline months,
November, end of this year, 3 more months, 1 more month, whatever, and it never
gets done. I think that Slau's intentions are good. I think he means well,
but frankly at this point, they say they're gonna make it work. Honestly, I'll
believe it when I see it, at this point.

Enough said.

Hi Rui,
Check out the templates that ship with pt.
They should give you a good idea on how they lay out a pt session for
different tasks.
I know they are just templates but signal flow is signal flow! :)
PT use to ship with 1 or 2 songs as a demo session to check out but its been so
long since! LOL
YMMV

(FWD) Reaper and Osara short course coming soon!

2015-09-07 Thread Chris Smart

Ever wanted to be in full control of your multi-track audio
projects?
Have you ever considered composing music with Midi and wanted more tools
to get it done?
Have you been frustrated with the limits of reaccess and Reaper and
wondering what the next fronteer regarding Audio editing was?
In recent months NVAccess has released an extention to Reaper called
Osara. This extention is a reimplementation of the accessability layer to
Reaper.
If you have good audio editing skills, and want to upgrade your skills to
the next level, consider the CAVI Osara short course.
This course will cost $100 and is 5 intensive weeks of Osara training.
Fundamental audio knowledge will be assumed, or people may wish to return
and take Audio fundamentals next year to fill in the gaps in their
knowledge.
This course will be run using Pcs on Teamtalk, although any Mac info on
Reaper would be apreciated.
We are looking for students who are interested in taking
this
course. As it is a short course, payment is generally required up front.
If this is a problem please get in touch with us and we can work
something out.
It is anticipated that this course will start early October so any
interested people please email cavii...@ciscovision.org
This is an exciting course that will teach many new concepts including
how to preview midi data and how to build custom envelopes for fade pan
and many other affects.
This is likely the only time this course will run so get in quick or you
may miss out!
We look forward to signing interested students up.
Regards, Kerry.

2015-09-07 Thread TheOreoMonster
Tempos change a lot, or they don’t record to a click? Unless you have plenty of
editing to do to the tracks, you probably don’t need to identify the tempo of
the trac, That being said if memory serves correct Identify beat is for you to
tell it where each measure/beat is in the song, not the other way around.
