Make sure to fully back up before adventuring to new MacOS. That way you can 
just restore it if you don't like it.
Other people might had different experience, but unfortunately El Capitan was 
the worst experience for me with Pro Tools. A lot of crashes and sluggishness. 
When a sited user used the same system, it never crashed, but when I use with 
VoiceOver, it frequently crashed.
I went back down to Yosemite, skipped El Capitan, and upgraded later when 
Sierra came out.

1.  I just read the   Pro Tools Operating System Compatibility Chart  and it 
say that my Pro Tools 12.5.2 version is compatible with El Capitan 10.11.6.

In that case, would be safe to upgrade to El Capitan at least?
