Re: [Pulp-dev] Draft Community Demo - Your Opinion Please

2020-07-27 Thread Tatiana Tereshchenko
For "Which Pulp 2 plugins do you use?"

 - Is the OSTree plugin left out on purpose? I heard questions/concerns
from the Fedora Core OS community about missing OSTree plugin in Pulp3 for
mirroring their content. Having it in the list helps to provide more
information about how widely it's used.
 - We know that some of our contributors have their own plugins, which may
or may not be open sourced and which they use within their company. Maybe
it's worth adding "my own plugin" or something like that. In
combination with questions about upgrading to Pulp 3, it will help to gauge
how much focus the Migration plugin needs to have with regards to
the plugin writers.

Thanks for working on this,
Tanya

It would be interesting to see what users find beneficial and are excited

It's the same survey, with sections that redirect for Pulp 2 users or
 Pulp 3 users.
I had to think about this. The answer was yes but with added work.
To avoid extra processing of answers, I added the generic questions
(OS, size, etc) to one section while keeping conditional Pulp 2 and Pulp 3
 sections.
If someone in the Pulp 2 section answers that they have installed Pulp
3, they also get redirected to the Pulp 3 section afterward so they can
give their opinion on that :)
Am happy to apply any feedback.

This link is live. Take a look :)

I also applied Matthias's feedback and added timeline options for when
users plan to upgrade to Pulp 2.
There's a duplication of a question "Where are you located" in the
first and last section. I deleted it but it is still there. If it doesn't
go away, I'll create a new survey when we are happy with the questions.

Re: [Pulp-dev] Draft Community Demo - Your Opinion Please

2020-07-24 Thread David Davis
The Pulp 2 questions all look good to me. A couple suggestions on the Pulp
3 questions:

- The relational db question might not be helpful since we only support
PostgreSQL. I don't see us changing that anytime soon. But maybe asking
what db people would like to use might be helpful.
- For the install question, maybe have an answer in case they're using Pulp
inside of Katello. Also, I don't think it's possible to install Pulp 3 with
RPMs right now (but my knowledge here is limited. Hopefully someone from
the installer team chimes in and can review the survey).
- I'd add a question to ask what version of Pulp 3 they are on. The options
would currently be 3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, and master.
- Also, maybe a question about what features are missing if any (similar to
the question about what plugins they want)

Can the questions like

Which Pulp 3 plugins do you use?

be a selection so that you can run percentage based analysis on it and not have
to
deal with cleaning up the answers.

I copied over some questions from last year's survey and added what I
thought might be interesting. Last year's survey contains a lot of
"planning" questions for future upgrades to Pulp 3. Many things have
changed since then, and I think you know best where we need to focus.

I added conditions to the survey to try and separate the following:

 * Questions for Pulp 2 Users
 * Questions for Pulp 3 Users
 * Questions for people who are in-between their migration. This last

It's the same survey, with sections that redirect for Pulp 2 users or Pulp
3 users.
I had to think about this. The answer was yes but with added work.
To avoid extra processing of answers, I added the generic questions (OS,
size, etc) to one section while keeping conditional Pulp 2 and Pulp 3
sections.
If someone in the Pulp 2 section answers that they have installed Pulp 3,
they also get redirected to the Pulp 3 section afterward so they can give
their opinion on that :)

I also applied Matthias's feedback and added timeline options for when
users plan to upgrade to Pulp 2.
There's a duplication of a question "Where are you located" in the first
and last section. I deleted it but it is still there. If it doesn't go

Re: [Pulp-dev] Draft Community Demo - Your Opinion Please

2020-07-24 Thread Matthias Dellweg
Only thing i could find is that "Do you plan to migrate to pulp3?" is quite
vague. Do you think "... to migrate within one year?" would be a good
question? (maybe quarter or half a year...)
Or we provide Intervals to choose from.
That would kind of shift the notion of the questions below to "What is
stopping you now?", the sort of information we want.

[Pulp-dev] Draft Community Demo - Your Opinion Please

2020-07-23 Thread Melanie Corr
Hi all,

I need your help in shaping the survey[0].

This last
category of user may exist only in my head. Let me know :)

Questions for you:

Do you think streaming the survey into separate user groups like this is a
good idea?

With the Pulp 2 survey, do we want to collect, for example, what version of
MongoDB they're using? I'm assuming we ultimately want to guide users away
from Pulp 2, so most of what I added related to a future migration to Pulp
3. I kept all the "what features would you like" type questions for the
Pulp 3 part of the survey and focused on what they need to get away from
Pulp 2. What do you think?

For the Pulp 3 users, are there any areas I haven't covered where you want
to focus and learn their experiences?

I asked Greg Sutcliffe, the MBU's Data Analyst, a question related to
rewording I was doing on one question. One piece of advice he gave me was
to beware of asking about solutions to complex problems. For example, on
his advice, I changed "If there was a Pulp 3 web-based interface, would you
use it?" from the 2019 survey to "Do you need a Pulp 3 web UI for your
environment?" with the follow-up question to describe that workflow if they
answer yes. He said to focus the questions on their experiences and their
problems rather than having them propose hypothetical solutions.

Feel free to reply here or enter "That is a terrible question, Melanie"
into the survey :)
Am happy to apply any feedback.
