There is no way to use ANSI colors as they are all horribly ugly and only a fixed set of 16 that looks different on different terminals/emulators. In facter2, IIRC you can get the fact using 'foo ', but this doesn't appear to work in native facter. In either case you can find the fact in the entire output with grep. ./external/foo.txt foo = bar bar=foo

This is non intuitive, but if you think about the classes overlapping during enforcement, it can almost make sense. Is this intended behaviour?

I'd say those fixes would need to be called out in the release notes were this a new cfacter release, but for Facter 3.0 it doesn't make much sense to call out fixes to issues that don't exist in the previous version. When I install the latest Puppet client on a clean Server 2008 R2 image, I can install modules to the local filesystem (C:\ProgramData\...) with no issue. The issue seems to be the underlying Ruby code calling a Windows API to move a file, which has lots of limitations including not working over different drives. In other programming languages it's usual for a Windows file move to be implemented by a binary file read then write to overcome this Windows API restriction, e.g. Apache Commons IO FileUtils.moveFile in Java. In some case, it can be costy. For Services, if we only set the enable parameter, it will retrieve the status of the service. If this retrieval takes ages, the ressource will loose time in something not needed. And because no Service Type parameter is dependant on whether the service is running or not, we can just skip the ensure status retrieval when there is no ensure parameter. This can be done by overriding Puppet::Type.retrieve in Puppet::Type::Service. A PR will follow. Add Comment

What I found was we still had several things left over from the retirement of v4/v5. First we're still populating an api_version. That field is from v1 of the api and no versions currently support it. We also have tests here and here that are referencing a v5 schema that doesn't exist, yet since we have a default case of v6, the tests just work although they really aren't testing anything and are misleading. The api_version change could ripple a bit. I think some of the tests that reference v5 could probably just be removed and/or replaced by something that includes only the versions we care about.
