 Sort of; I just added the JS tracking script for GA. Here's the PR https://github.com/puppetlabs/higgs/pull/423/files . I think for a CLI like bolt, you would probably need the GA Ruby lib: https://developers.google.com/api-client-library/ruby/start/get_started

I'm not sure if this is just a limitation of the package managers themselves, but it seems odd to me that in order to ensure the same package version on apt/yum, you actually need two completely different versions. Here's an example of this work around from the puppet_agent module:

  } elsif ($::osfamily == 'RedHat') and ($package_version != 'present') {

PUP-2638
 fixed an issue where puppet apply failed to run when no puppet agent run had initially run after a puppet agent upgrade. This issue also needs to be fixed for the other puppet faces, such as resource.

It also appears that the pe_acceptance_test sets the server post-install, which gets around the default, but that once the in-place upgrade happens, it gets reset. We could just set the server again, but it seems like that is just plastering over this bug?

centos 6 PE AIO master, upgraded from PE 3.8.3 to PE 2015.3.2-rc0-86-gb244f29 windows 2012r2 agent, upgraded from PUP 3.8.3 to PUP 4.3.2 with puppet_agent module

It appears that PUP 4.3.2 overwrites the value of server in puppet.conf on windows 2012r2 (and 2008) with the default of puppet. This causes puppet runs to fail after upgrades (unless, of course, you are actually configuring puppet to point to your master.) I discovered this while testing my fix to puppet_agent, and while I cannot see anything in my changes that would be causing this issue, it may be causing it? If you are curious, the PR is https://github.com/puppetlabs/pe_acceptance_tests/pull/828 , which I have been testing with Josh's custom puppet_agent fix

Also, there doesn't seem to be any PUPPET_MASTER_SERVER value set in the registry post-upgrade.
I'm running a test right now to check what is in the registry pre-upgrade.

 It appears that PUP 4.3.2 overwrites the value of {{server}} in {{puppet.conf}} on windows 2012r2 (and 2008) with the default of {{puppet}}. This causes puppet runs to fail after upgrades (unless, of course, you are actually configuring {{puppet}} to point to your master.) I discovered this while testing my fix to puppet_agent, and while I cannot see anything in my changes that would be causing this issue, it may be causing it? If you are curious, the PR is https://github.com/puppetlabs/ pe_acceptance_tests puppetlabs-puppet_agent /pull/ 828 66  , which I have been testing with Josh's custom puppet_agent fix for pe_acceptance tests https://github.com/puppetlabs/pe_acceptance_tests/pull/828 and the attached beaker file/beaker command.I don't really know anything about how an MSI is made, but https://github.com/highb/puppet_for_the_win/blob/master/wix/puppet.wxs#L637 seems suspect to me? It seems to indicate to me that the default will be set if the command line option is not passed in, and the rest of the MSI appears to always set the value in the conf to whatever PUPPET_MASTER_SERVER has been set to. It appears that the documented behavior is to not change the value if the command line arg is not given: https://docs.puppetlabs.com/pe/latest/install_windows.html#puppetmasterserver {quote}"If you set a non-default value for this property, the installer will replace any existing value in puppet.conf. Also, the next time you upgrade, the installer will re-use your previous value for this property unless you set a new value on the command line. So if you’ve used this property once, you shouldn’t change the server setting directly in puppet.conf; you should re-run the installer and set a new value there instead."{quote}

Looking at the forge code, we are staging the download to a tmp directory, and we shouldn't be deleting the module_dir if the download/validate/unpack steps didn't throw any exceptions. If the server is returning 502, that definitely doesn't match https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/blob/master/lib/puppet/forge.rb#L191 , so it should be throwing an exception and not touching the module_dir. If I have some more time, perhaps I can repro.

Yeah, so I used pry to override response.code to return 502 right before https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/blob/master/lib/puppet/forge.rb#L191 , and it properly throws an exception and does not reach the module_dir.rmtree line. Not sure what was happening here, but it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore?

Downloaded https://github.com/garethr/puppet-module-skeleton/blob/master/skeleton/.fixtures.yml.erb , replaced my ~/.puppet/var/puppet-module/skeleton, ran puppet module generate on master @ HEAD, found .fixtures.yml file in generated module: https://gist.github.com/highb/2c8ce45fb0b1087f3c89 . It appears the metadata.name was properly substituted by ERB. I notice there is an inline # {source_dir}
, which was not substituted, but as far as I know, ERB requires everything that will be evaluated to be contained within ERB brackets. Gareth Rushgrove, could you provide more details about what this file is supposed to look like after it has been correctly processed?

Merged fix to master. New behavior is to warn about invalid semvers, default them to 0.0.0, and point maintainers at the semver docs. Here's example output after following the test case given in the description:

Notice: Preparing to install into /Users/highb/.puppet/modules ...
Warning: pound (/Users/highb/.puppet/modules/pound) has an invalid version number (0.1). The version has been set to 0.0.0. If you are the maintainer for this module, please update the metadata.json with a valid Semantic Version (http://semver.org).
