The result of that is a file called e.g. _ /run/puppet/master.pid_ that is owned by the puppet user and group. In particular, the "puppet" user can write whatever he wants into that file. When using an init script to start, stop, and reload the daemon, that situation is exploitable. For example, if the "puppet" user writes "1" into _ /run/puppet/master.pid_, then the next time I run /etc/init.d/puppetmaster stop, I'll send a SIGKILL to PID 1 as root. To avoid that, puppet should create its PID file as root, before dropping privileges (but still after forking). That way the init system, which almost always runs as root, can trust the contents of the root-owned PID file. The change does have one downside, however: you will no longer be able to remove the PID file after you've dropped privileges. But, it's a lot easier to implement "remove PID file" in portable shell script than it

This mean that no RST response is sent back to the client to terminate the connection attempt. Puppet nodes placed behind such a firewall send TCP SYN packets to 169.254.169.254:80 over and over and over again due to the EC2 fact. A single puppet run that normally takes 10 seconds now takes more than 10 minutes! That's why I set this issue type as Bug and not Improvement. My current workaround is to configure an alias IP 169.254.169.254 on a local interface on the nodes, or setup a REJECT-rule in my firewall, so the connection attempts are terminated immediately and EC2 can continue.

Dependencies are declared. Duplicate class declaration errors are avoided.Possible Con: functions have not returned referencable class/type objects before, so this might seem new/unexpected.h3. Instructions for running beaker locally in the file acceptance/README.md seem to be broken in master.
I've been running using:
CONFIG=config/nodes/centos6-local.yaml SHA=#{test-commit-sha} GIT_SERVER='192.168.80.1' FORK='puppet' bundle exec rake --trace ci:test:git
As suggested by the instructions, I encountered 2x failures:
Errored build: Unable to yum install rubygem-json Fix was to use a centos7 vagrant box which already has "Development Tools" metapackage installed

This is because only Puppet Faces pulled these summaries into standalone strings. Applications extract the summary from a large heredoc that provides the full help text for the subcommand. The full subcommand text should not be translated, but the summary messages should be, since `puppet help` is such a visible entry point for the software. Title: Message Title William Yardley commented on PUP-7847 Re: undefined method error when title_patterns isn't matched We fixed the issue in that PR, the main reason I opened a ticket is that a) this error message wasn't very helpful, and b) that it seemed like it could be a regression of an already fixed issue. So it's more for Puppet's information, in case the error message can be improved, because I know that it's broken code triggering the issue. If this is not a bug or not worth fixing, feel free to close. I think the commit that was able to trigger the problem has already been force-merged over, so may not be easy to provide a good example. In this case, there was no puppet server to run against, since the error was coming up when testing changes to a module in Beaker, where the manifest was getting applied manually as above.
