The author announces the progam to be a converter to markdowsn, so it
would be nice to have symlink to:

  /usr/bin/html2markdown

This way users can use find(1) along PATH for the magic word. Same for
Debian package search.

I'll file my package remove request ASAP.

Done in SVN, including a transitional package to replace html2markdown.

Jari, I don't want to replace your package without your approval.

BTW: The python-html2text package is maintained in DPMT. If you have a
continued interest in this package, you are welcome to join the team and
co-maintain it.

Hi Simon (2011.02.24_01:31:39_+0200)
python-html2text is version 3.01 of the same HTML to Markdown converter,
packaged as a library (it can also be run as a script, but doesn't have a link
 or wrapper in /usr/bin).

I can provide a link in /usr/bin (although I'll have to use

As html2markdown has no reverse dependencies, we don't have to keep that
name for the binary, but we can't use html2text, as it's provided by the
annoyingly completely different converter :)

Any suggestions? python-html2text? html2markdown? I'd probably go with
python-html2text if we weren't replacing html2markdown.

Jari: Is this approach OK with you?

[Python-modules-team] Bug#614886: merge html2markdown and python-html2text, which are the same upstream?

2011-02-23 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: python-html2text,html2markdown
Severity: wishlist

html2markdown is version 2.39 of Aaron Swartz' HTML to Markdown converter
html2text, packaged as an executable script.

python-html2text is version 3.01 of the same HTML to Markdown converter,
packaged as a library (it can also be run as a script, but doesn't have a link
or wrapper in /usr/bin).

Any chance you could merge the two packages into one that provides both modes
of use? According to Debian Python policy it'd have to be called
python-html2text, but it could also provide /usr/bin/html2markdown and have
Provides: html2markdown.

Not to be confused with the html2text Debian package, which, annoyingly,
is a completely different HTML-to-text converter...

Regards,
S
