Hi,

There was a post on the QGIS Australia mailing list today about QGIS 3D and
applications to Geology. While the post did not specifically address drill
hole sections, it mentioned that the QGIS 3D development does have potential
to address these challenges now.

The QGIS 3D crowd funding campaign is by Lutra Consulting and the link to
the campaign can be seen here

Minimum contribution is a bit high IMO for individual users to get on board
(I may be wrong), but if you have an organisation or user group that can
contribute funds now is the time. I think the campaign expires tomorrow. If
unfunded it will not be developed.

Again - not saying this campaign solves the drill hole problem, but a few
geologists I know are excited about the QGIS emerging 3D capabilities and
this may be a way to progress them.

It looks like no one has been answering this for you yet and I’m just catching 
up on a few days emails after my computer was in the shop.

There is active interest in developing a drill hole plugin for QGIS3 now that 
3D is more fully supported.  I also work with drill holes and have been running 
them in QGIS fairly easily in plan view where I just calculate traces to a plan 
view (either in a spreadsheet or using code) and apply theme patterns based on 
the attributes I kept with the segments.  This has worked reasonable well with 
grade and lithology which are two of the main things you want to see.

Cross sections have been harder, but those are still “maps” in non-Earth 
coordinates.  Again I’ve tended to build those with projections to a plane in 
either a spreadsheet or by code.  This is not as easy to work with as plan view 
so I am very interested in seeing the developing interest in getting a drill 
hole section plugin for QGIS.  That will really finalize QGIS as the logical 
choice for geological exploration work.

I’ve cc’ed the others I know using QGIS so I hope you can be included in the 
list of interested users.

questo non dipende dalla tua installazione, un piccolo problema del plugin
che andrebbe segnalato
nel bugtracker del plugin ProfileTool.

questo invece potrebbe dipendere da un'errata configurazioni della
variabile PATH.
Quando esegui l'algoritmo, in calce alla finestra di dialogo trovi una
console con all'interno
un comando che dovrebbe essere questo:

gdaldem aspect /Users/Harlock/Downloads/DTM10M/5_460.asc
/Users/Harlock/Downloads/DTM10M/Merge/Ombra.asc -of AAIGrid -b 1

Hai provato a lanciarlo dal terminale? Prova e vedi se ottieni lo stesso
errore (/bin/sh: gdaldem: command not found)
Se ottieni lo stesso errore, sempre da terminale lancia:

echo 'export PATH="/Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework/Programs:$PATH"' >>
~/.bash_profile

Vedi se cambia qualcosa rilanciando QGIS.

Su due portatili (Windows 10-64bit, QGIS 3 installato tramite osgeo4w 32 bit) 
ho anch'io lo stesso problema con il plugin Profile Tool usando un DEM tipo 
.tif (praticamente non si può disegnare la linea del profilo). Errore

[Qgis-user] Mac QGIS 3 & Python 3

I'm getting a lot of email about Python 3 on OS X.  I built QGIS to require the 
python.org Python 3.

Sorry, but you can't subsitute another python installation (ie homebrew or 
anaconda), QGIS links to the python library to run its own python interpreter, 
so it's not a simple path change or substitution.

I chose python.org as a reasonable "official" (it comes from python.org) and 
easy distribution, and to account for other distros would mean separate QGIS 
binaries needed, or link updating at install which would create problems for 
app signing when I get to that.

volevo dare il mio contributo alla traduzione di QGIS avendone ora la  
possibilità. Volevo gentilmente chiedere come potere aiutare coloro  
che si occupano già di traduzione. La mia specializzazione è quella  
dell'idraulica ed anche se il mio inglese non è perfetto, traduco  
manuali dell'ingegneria idraulica da inglese ad italiano.

Many thanks for your contribution and spreading the word.

We are going probably to spend more time to implement all the features and
hence the target is heavily discounted! Similarly, we have spent a lot more
time to implement 3D (with help from other developers and users) in the
current QGIS than what we received from QGIS.org grant. It is now up to the
community to fund this work. We'd like to add more features in future (e.g.
3D digitizing, support for cloud points, etc) but all will depend on how
the current crowd-funding concludes!
