ok - bad to hear.

Is DXF support going to be much improved in gdal 1.10?

It is more a question about improvements in QGIS rather than in GDAL.
GDAL offers stuff (esp. feature styling, block handling, labeling) that
QGIS does not use. As DXF support is improved in QGIS there may be
improvements/fixes in GDAL as well.

[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.8: How to produce a sheet line system map?

2013-02-21 Thread spatialjoe
Hi all,

I wonder how to (easily) produce an overview map showing the extents of 26
single Maps (in german: Blattschnittübersicht).
Right now I can only think of saving the individual x/y min and x/ymax
coordinates of the map extends shown in the map composer in order to
manually digitize my map bounding boxes (portrait/landscape).
Is this it or am I missing something?

Best

Hi J,

from your question it is not clear if you have raster files or shapefiles.

For rasterfiles there is a gdal command which creates a shapefile for a
directory full of rasterfiles. You then can load that shapefile to see
all extents. See http://www.gdal.org/gdaltindex.html

For vector files I'm not sure if there is something like that...

If you are talking about topo maps with regular extend in parts of
lat/lon degrees, you can easily set up a vector raster from Vector -
Reserch tools. Otherwise the gdaltindex would be best suited.

Your notes include Garmin 60 directions. Life gets a lot easier with the
newer Garmin 62 series: If you plug your USB cable between the unit and your
computer, the unit shows up as yet another mounted memory device (at least
in MacOS X). You can just copy the GPX files to wherever you want them

2013-02-21 Thread mihai.rus
Hello,

In winx32 is working but with qgis 1.8.0-2 and gdal 1.9.1

In qgis 1.8.0-5, 1.8.0-4 and gdal 1.9.2 is not working.

That's why I assumed is from gdal version.

Mihai

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.8: How to produce a sheet line system map?

2013-02-21 Thread spatialjoe
Hi Richard, Nathan, André,

many thanks for your replies and suggestions.
It's not so much about the extents of single files (vector or raster) but
the extents of the maps I produce in the map composer.
So applying some python could be interesting.
Well, I will play around a little and in the end probably just digitze my
25, 26 rectangles quick and dirty ;-)

Best,

Johannes
