2014-10-13 Thread Mike Flannigan

This also happens on Win7 64 QGIS 2.4.0. Not right away,
but after working with a QGIS file for a while the top of
the window freezes against the top of the display area, and
the bottom of the QGIS window is down below the screen size.
The only way I have found to fix this is close down and
restart QGIS. That fixes it (temporarily) every time.

So I downloaded a cities of the world shapefile.

1. Go to Project Properties under File

London.

4. Identify London - and open your feature form and you will have

Hi list, I was wondering, is it possible to have multiple installs of
QGIS at the same time on a Windows box? I.e.: 2.2 2.4 2.6 (in a

Or can you only have one? And does the answer vary depending on
whether you're using the OSGeo installer or the standalone one?

You can have them all, if you want ;-)

Only thing that is a bit complicated is the version that should start by
double-clicking on a .qgs project file. It is usually the version
installed last, except for the dev version. That does not get the .qgs
extension registration if you have a stable version via OSGEO4W. But it
overwrites the extension registration of a standalone version.

As a workaround, search for .../apps/qgis/qgis.reg in the installation
path of the wanted version, and double click on it. This sets the .qgs
extension registration.

And, as already mentioned: Some plugins (like the Openlayers plugin) do
not like older QGIS versions. You have no chance to get the compatible
plugin of QGIS 2.2 or older, and if you return to 2.4, the plugin has to
be reactivated in the plugin list.

André Joost

Re: [Qgis-user] Simple Georeference a .png chart

2014-10-13 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi Alex,
It may just be me being slow, but it's not entirely clear what you're trying
to accomplish here. As best I can tell the two images are at very very
different scales. Are you trying to georeference the Newark close-up onto the
Newark-area map?

I believe using a transformation Type of Polynomial 1 should minimise the types
of warping that's happening (assuming you don't want any to happen).

Maybe the points you're trying to reference on the map aren't actually correct?
More information about what you're trying to accomplish may help someone offer
a suggestion/solution.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Hi All!

I am new to the GIS topic and also new to QGIS. My problems seemed to be very

On the KEWR_AFC there are a lot of Points already defined with coordinates
which can be used to georeference the .png.

I have now tried everything but the result was tilted and shifted in such a
way, that it was unreadable or completely unusable because the coordinates have
been wrong. Is it because of the variation? Or wrong KGS? I had - depending on
the choses options - red lines indicating the tilt/shift with extremely
movements...

So can anybody help me how I have to georeference (especially the AGC), that it
is correct?

Thanks a lot already for help in advance!

With best regards

Alex

Re: [Qgis-user] Multiple QGIS installs (Windows)

2014-10-13 Thread McDonaldR
Hi Jonathan

Yes, you can.

You can install the standalone version - it installs into a unique folder under
C:\Program Files\

You can install using OSGeo4W and install the latest stable and development
releases into OSGeo4W\apps\qgis and qgis-dev

However, having said this all installs (I have 2.0.1, 2.2 and 2.4 and 2.5dev
installed) use the same .qgis2 folder in your user directory. So plugins that
work for 2.2 but not 2.4 will show up as broken when using 2.4 but will work in
2.2. I am not sure how you can separate out the configs to have separate
folders or each install. Maybe some env variable?

Cheers

Ross

Hi list,
I was wondering, is it possible to have multiple installs of QGIS at the same
time on a Windows box?
I.e.:
2.2
2.4
2.6 (in a month)?

Or can you only have one? And does the answer vary depending on whether you're
using the OSGeo installer or the standalone one?

Cheers,

Re: [Qgis-user] Generating GeoTIFF overview ("gdaladdo -r gauss ...") takes days for 2GB file...

2014-10-13 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi Stefan,
How large is the image? As in, pixel width & height.

Also the GDALinfo would be helpful.

7 days is a very long time. I've seen times like that myself for images that
were 100,000*50,000 or similar dimensions where there was (still is?) an issue
with the pyramiding function in GDAL (it was re-reading the data again and
again).

Cheers,
Jonathan

takes days for 2GB file...

Hi,

I have a GeoTIFF file of 2GB size. Now, this question is about gdaladdo and how
to optimize loading time of such a large raster file.

According to my observations QGIS has fastest loading times when it's a single
GeoTIFF file with overview images.

Q.1: Does anybody have tipps for even faster solutions loading raster files
into in QGIS (prepared by OGR or other preprocessors)?

The command "gdaladdo -r gauss C:\SG.tif 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256"
takes actually about 7 days on a Lenovo notebook.

Q2.: Any hint's on how to accelerate this (or to other tools generating
overviews/pyramids)?

Yours, S.

I've had 2.2 and 2.4 using the OSGEO Installer.

I haven't tried multiple copies with the standalone installer.

Re: [Qgis-user] Get layer-id by layer (not by acive layer)

2014-10-13 Thread Nathan Woodrow
layer.id() returns the id

http://qgis.org/api/classQgsMapLayer.html#a710f27dec806d3bcd5ae14701c2e6fd7

layer.name() returns the name

http://qgis.org/api/classQgsMapLayer.html#aff7fb3990b6c736fbe41643666b027e5

If you have a layerid and you want to look up the layer object for it you
can use:

QgsMapLayerRegistry.instance().mapLayers[layerid]

if you have a name and would like the layers objects:

maplayers = QgsMapLayersRegistry.instance().mapLayersByName(name)

Hey Walter.

Try this:

maplayers = QgsMapLayerRegistry.instance().mapLayers()

maplayers will be a dict of layerid-layer object

I guess the problem is due to some plugin you are using, try to
deactivate plugins in order to see if the problem disappear.

Have you tried to temporarily rename or delete .qgis2 folder from you home

Personally I don't hurry to install latest versions of programs and operating
