You may be stuck in this bug: https://issues.qgis.org/issues/16777

Updating to QGIS 2.18.11 might help.

Re: [Qgis-user] raster noob orientation

2017-08-10 Thread Lukas Winiwarter

Dr OM Chuck,

great that you are looking into identifying SOTA peaks with QGIS!

The European Copernicus Program supplies a DTM for Europe, with a
spatial resolution of 12m. This should probably be good enough. You need
to set up an account on their website. Also, take care to observe the
coordinate reference systems, which is EPSG:3035 (ETRS89, LAEA) for the
European data. The data can be downloaded here:

http://land.copernicus.eu/pan-european/satellite-derived-products/eu-dem/eu-dem-v1.1?fieldsetlegend-download=True-selected-@dem-v1-1-e50n20

Good luck and vy 73,

OE1LZW / Lukas

All,

I want to start a new raster file project in GQIS 2.18.11 on win7, using a
terrain raster image as layer one I have found numerous tutorials with
sample data but so far no useful instructions on the finer points of how to
do this simple task. Note that I have tried to download Google Natural
Earth 1:10.000.000 large scale rasters but keep getting a 404 not found
error, so they must not be available. The other scale Natural Earth
rasters are not usable as I will need to zoom down further than they
support.

So the next step is to find a usable substitute, but so far I am fumbling
around and wasting hours by guessing at what the various raster file types
will look like in QGIS. Would someone kindly suggest at least a substitute
WGS84 raster file and a link to where I can find it?

FWIW my goal is to assemble a multilayer terrain elevation analysis project
for evaluating mountain peaks and cols in Albania for SOTA (Summits on the
Air) use.

tnx in advance.

2017-08-10 Thread Richard McDonnell

Hi Chuck,
Have you looked at SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission)
You can use https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ to find the datasets
available for your Area of Interest.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Richard.

[Qgis-user] GRASS issue 2.18.10

2017-08-10 Thread Lester Anderson
Hi all,

Cannot get GRASS working in 2.18.10, it shows in the processing
toolbox but get a message like (using r.slope.aspect):

Missing dependency. This algorithm cannot be run.

GRASS is installed under the apps as too is SAGA, but is there a way
to configure it to run properly?

No issues with this on 2.10 or 2.12!

Thanks
Lester
