Re: [Qgis-user] How to limit number of "Recent Projects" listed - Correction

2021-02-15 Thread David Strip

If you just want to hide the recent projects on the opening screen,
go to Settings->General->Project Files and select something
other than "Most Recent" "Welcome Page".

If you still want a list of recent projects, but a shorter list, go
to Settings->Advanced and search for maxRecent and change the
value. This will also change the length of the list of recent
projects in Project->Open Recent

[Qgis-user] How to limit number of "Recent Projects" listed

2021-02-15 Thread Jeff Sonnentag
I searched a little and didn't find anything about how to limit the number of
"Recent Projects" shown after QGIS opens. I did find that some settings are in
Settings > Options > General but none that can be seen that refer to the number
of "Recent Projects" displayed.

Because the list keeps growing and initial opening of QGIS continued to slow
down I took a guess and right-clicked and removed some and it sped things up
considerably. It crashed on the last one attempted to remove from the list,
but a restart and another removal attempt got rid of that one too.

So is there a setting for how many are allowed on the list (preferably with an
option for 0) or do I need to just right-click and remove when things start
piling up and slowing things down again?

[Qgis-user] QEP 209: Expose OGR feature styles via a new "Embedded styling" renderer

2021-02-15 Thread Nyall Dawson
Hi all,

Please see https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Enhancement-Proposals/issues/209
for a newly filed QGIS Enhancement Proposal: "Expose OGR feature
styles via a new "Embedded styling" renderer".

Some vector data formats have native support for embedding feature
styling information, such as MapInfo TAB files. These formats allow
embedded symbology to be set on a feature-by-feature basis. This
proposal concerns exposing this per-feature styling information via
the QGIS API and creation of a new "embedded styling" renderer for
compatible vector layers, which allows users to view features using
the closest possible match to their original symbology.

Comments and discussion welcome! (please keep discussion on
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Enhancement-Proposals/issues/209 and not
via email replies in order to keep all conversation centralized!).

Regards,
Nyall

Hi,

I think you will need to delete duplicate nodes, then export the polygon nodes
(vertices) to a new point layer. Then, I would apply a distance matrix. Write
back if you want more details. This is for the distances between the nodes
within a polygon right?

Re: [Qgis-user] distance between rectangle polygon in Qgis

2021-02-15 Thread C Hamilton
There is a nifty function provided by the "Shape Tools" plugin called
"Geodesic measurement layer". It will create a new layer of your polygon
layer and measure each segment between nodes in the polygon or measure the
total circumference of the polygon. You can select which you want. You can
choose what measurement unit you want to use (miles, kilometer, meters,
etc) and it records everything in the attribute layer and even styles the
new layer so that it shows all the measurements in the QGIS display. The
function also works on a line layer. It makes it very easy to instantly see
distances with lines or polygons.

Hi Jon,
if I understand correctly your request, you just need to follow the rule for
drawing lines in QGIS:

- "left click" for the first (initial) point of the segment
- "left click" for the second (final) point of the segment
- "right click" to terminate the drawing of the line.

"Cartesian calculation selected, so distance is calculated using Cartesian
calculations."
e
"No map projection set, so distance is calculated using Cartesian
calculations."

essere state modificate:

3056 "Name of the actual vapour pressure (e_act) map [KPa]" (GrassAlgorithm)
e
13344 "'This is a test'" (QgsExpression)

A presto.

Andrea

[Qgis-user] distance to nearest point

I want to show a label for a point feature in layer1 that is based on the

Additionally, I want to bring over an attribute from layer2. Last, I'd

Point1: 100ft W of pole ID 123

Thayer’s instructions look good.

Start by building query one step at a time. You can separate the parts using
the pipe sign ||. Then, change the || for the operators OR. That would help
you trouble shoot the operation.

I think he is right. The problem is likely the space between <=.

Re: [Qgis-user] distance between rectangle polygon in Qgis

2021-02-15 Thread Nicolas Cadieux
Hi,

I think you will need to delete duplicate nodes, then export the polygon nodes
(vertices) to a new point layer. Then, I would apply a distance matrix. Write
back if you want more details. This is for the distances between the nodes
within a polygon right?

Hi,

You also need to make sure that the layer is a line layer, not a polygon or
point layer. First, select the line layer, place it in edit mode then follow
the instructions below.

Hi Jon,
if I understand correctly your request, you just need to follow the rule for
drawing lines in QGIS:

- "left click" for the first (initial) point of the segment
- "left click" for the second (final) point of the segment
- "right click" to terminate the drawing of the line.

Regards.

[Qgis-user] Inserting a Simple Straight Line

2021-02-15 Thread Jon Fox
Hello

I am a new GIS user learning QGIS version 3.16.1-Hannover. I am trying to
insert a simple (straight) line using the "add node item" button per the
QGIS training manual Section 4.2.2. The only drop-down options for this
button are polyline and polygon. I tried to insert a straight line by using
various combinations of right- or left-clicking, and by hitting the "enter"
key, but the line keeps continuing on as if I can only make a polyline. How
does one create a simple straight line in QGIS? Any method will be
appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards,

Jon

Ciao Stefano,

A presto.

Salve a tutti,

In particolare nelle frasi:
"Cartesian calculation selected, so distance is calculated using Cartesian
calculations."
e
"No map projection set, so distance is calculated using Cartesian
calculations."

A presto.

Andrea

Nope, for what I know, the only changing dimension is time.

> If so, is there a “how to” out on the web you could point me to?

Don't think so.

I think this would need some 'playbook' in which at certain times QGIS changes
it's extent...
In the end not so difficult, but to create the playbook would need some gui.

Maybe you can script it yourself though.

The TemporalNavigationController you can call from QGIS, so you can
'step,step,step,change-extent,step,step' etc...

I wrote some code on how to code on this, but am not able to get it through CI:
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/pull/5521
maybe you can use that.
