Re: [Qgis-user] plugin QPackage error: where to report the bug?

2024-01-10 Thread Agustin Lobo via QGIS-User
Thanks a lot, because the link provided in QGIS
"Manage and Install plugins"/QPackage is
http://creasig.fr/
and does not work.
I will report that to them as well.

[Qgis-user] plugin QPackage error: where to report the bug?

2024-01-10 Thread Agustin Lobo via QGIS-User
QPackage issues the following error when I click on "Copy the layers":

TypeError: setValue(self, int): argument 1 has unexpected type 'float'

I have tried to use the "bug tracker" link in the Manage and Install
plugins/QPackage,
but the page that opens
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/QPackage/
does not have any way to report the bug.

This plugin is marked as stable...

Re: [Qgis-user] Official check of plugins on "official" repository?

2023-11-16 Thread Agustin Lobo via QGIS-User
Dear Alexandre,
I understand the limitations of human resources. And my acknowledgment
to those involved in the QGIS project.
All I'm asking is a consistent terminology so that users are fully
aware of the potential problems: the only "official" or
fully tested plugins should be those which are now named "featured".
And the notice "Plugins are developed by independent organizations and
developers,
the QGIS organization does not take any responsibility for them" (or
similar), should be in QGIS Plugins/Manage and Install Plugins.
I'm already very involved on reporting issues in the github systems of
the plugins I use. Perhaps a system to report eventual problems caused
by the plugins in QGIS
could be considered so that QGIS users could use that information to
decide whether to install a given plugin or not. The current situation
in which installing or running a plugin can crash QGIS goes
against QGIS being contemplated as a stable and reliable software.
Hope QGIS developers find my comments useful.
Best,

Re: [Qgis-user] Official check of plugins on "official" repository?

2023-11-16 Thread Agustin Lobo via QGIS-User
Thanks for the clarification,
> They are called featured plugins

Thus, the term is misleading. "featured" does not mean "certified".
In any case, the bottom issue is that plugins causing problems in QGIS
beyond the plugin itself, and in particular those just crashing QGIS
should not be entitled to be in the official repository or, at least,
required to keep the "experimental" tag.
In the absence of further information, the term "official" implies,
for the (naive?) user, a commitment to their functionality from the
QGIS steering committee.
I believe that the note in the QGIS plugins web portal;
"Plugins are developed by independent organizations and developers,
the QGIS organization does not take any responsibility for them."
is somehow conflicting with the term "official". And while all users
will read the term "official", very few will reach the aforementioned
note.
(perhaps this notice should also be in the QGIS plugins menu itself).

Hope this helps to keep QGIS to be seen as a stable and reliable tool.

[Qgis-user] Official check of plugins on "official" repository?

2023-11-14 Thread Agustin Lobo via QGIS-User
I am surprised that some plugins downloaded from the official qgis
repository cause problems in QGIS, sometimes even a crash.
In the R project, there is a review system that automatically checks
packages to be uploaded (and to remain) on the equivalent official
repository.
Is there an equivalent checking process for QGIS plugins? As a lot of
important GIS functionality in QGIS is provided by plugins, I think
this stability check would avoid a lot of user frustration.

The case is the same in Mac, push the three dots on the right and go to your
project folder.
If this is not the case, check the project folder permissions (command I) and
try again.

[Qgis-user] Problem with qgis.org/debian repo

2018-08-06 Thread Agustin Lobo
On a Debian testing (buster) machine, I have the following problem to
install qgis3
(only qgis2 available in standard Debian repos afaik)

After including
deb https://qgis.org/debian buster main
deb-src https:://qgis.org/debian buster main

in /etc/apt/sources.list
and running
~$ sudo aptitude update

I get:

E: The repository 'https://qgis.org/debian buster Release' does not
have a Release file.
E: Failed to download some files
W: Failed to fetch https://qgis.org/debian/dists/buster/Release:
Undetermined Error
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old
ones used instead.

Despite the error, it seems it somehow works: before modifying sources.list
and running aptitude update, Synaptic indicated that the latest version was:
qgis 2.18.21+dfsg-2 not adding qgis repo
while Synaptic indicates
qgis 1:3.2.1+15buster after adding the qgis repo

Nevertheless, I'd rather prefer understanding the error issued by
aptitude before the acutal installation.

Thanks

Re: [Qgis-user] R in QGIS on OSX using Kyngchaos build

2016-03-07 Thread Agustin
Hi,
R doesn’t work on my laptop running capitan [1]

My Rutils.py is in the machine
/Applications/QGIS.app/Contents/Resources/python/plugins/processing/algs/r/Rutils.py

R_Home is in .bash_proflle
export PYTHONPATH="/Applications/QGIS.app/Contents/Resources/python"
#R para Qgis
export R_HOME=/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/
/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/ #exists

R works typing R in a terminal

To get rid of the message claiming that (This happens when trying to activate R
?)
/Applications/QGIS.app/Contents/msys is not there I cheated creating it

Now I’m able to activate R and download the scripts but an error pop up

Missing dependency. This algorithm cannot be run :-(

This algorithm requires R to be run. Unfortunately it seems that R is not
installed in your system or it is not correctly configured to be used from QGIS

Click here to know more about how to install and configure R to be used with
QGIS

No problems in other machines running earlier versions of MacOS

Re: [Qgis-user] Photo2Shape plugin [on Mac]

2015-12-11 Thread Agustin
Hi,
To the best of my knowledge, I have followed the instructions provided and I
got the correct version of exifread [1] that seems to be in the correct place
[2]
EXIF.py works from the command line. In my 10.9.5 machine Qgis 2.12 crashes, in
the 10.11.1 Qgis 2.13 doesn’t work but doesn’t crack. See the error reported

Re: [Qgis-user] SUMMIT elevation map from a DEM ( SRTM)

2015-10-22 Thread Agustin
If you have a graticule, gridstatisticsforpolygons in processing will do the
trick, if not “creategraticule” and then gridstatisticsforpolygons
Something like these commands in the processing commander but it can be done
with the gui as well:
processing.runalg("saga:creategraticule",None,”xmin,xmax,ymin,ymax”,1000,1000,1,”/path/towhereyouwantosave/your_graticule")
processing.runalg("saga:gridstatisticsforpolygons”,"your_mdt.tif","/path/towhereyour_graticule_is",False,False,True,False,False,False,False,False,0,None)

Re: [Qgis-user] weird result with Qgis2threejs

Thanks,
I have set the vertical shift to -1300 (heights range 1324 -1358) and
upgraded the plugin to
version 1.0. I still get the columnar style, although can tilt better:

Also, it looks like the panning also changes the tilt altogether.

Try to set vertical shift option in the world panel.

which gets like this after zooming:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/egm2xlvdn9utjt7/Screenshot%202015-02-07%2014.28.05.png?dl=0

Tried by modifying the height of the plane but...

[Qgis-user] Wrong values if DEM in grid format is reprojected

2014-12-09 Thread Agustin Lobo
I'm using a DEM in esri grid format
(see
http://www.icc.cat/eng/Home-ICC/Geoinformacio-digital/Sobre-la-geoinformacio-ICGC/Models-Digitals-d-Elevacions)
which consisits on a txt file with the data and an xml file with the metadata.
The projection is UTM31N on ETRS89 datum (EPSG:25831)

If I display the layer on a project with the same EPSG:25831 there is
no problem,
but if I set the project projection to Geographic coordinates in WGS84
(EPSG:4326),
while the grey shades look coorrect and the coordinates are correct, the
actual values are totally wrong: values such as 7.999140e-136.

Is this a general problem with this format? Is there any fix? Is this
a bug to be reported?

Reprojecting to a gtiff using Raster/Projections/Warp works fine.

Thanks

[Qgis-user] problems with dbf encoding in Chugiak

Hi,
I'm having problems to see the correct encoding of this file [1]. To the
best of my understanding the original encoding is 1252 and this works in
LibreOffice or other gis programs, however trying to read it in Qgis gives
always the wrong result (spanish characters missed). I've try the fix dbf
encoder plugin adding the cpg file but with no success.
I'm on mac running Kyngchaos version.
Can somebody test the attached file and see what's going on?

[Qgis-user] Problems with relative path for the project (qgis 2.0.1 on linux)

2014-02-26 Thread Agustin Lobo
After copying a folder including a qgis project to a usb pendrive and
being prompted for the path of all layers, I've realised that
the paths are written in the prj as:

datasource../../../Iomega_HDD/mcgwire/Rmcgwire/ndviseg10.tif/datasource

in a prj that seats at
/media/alobo/Iomega_HDD/mcgwire

should not the relative path just be
datasource./mcgwire/Rmcgwire/ndviseg10.tif/datasource

?

Anyone else has experienced problems with relative paths lately?

[Qgis-user] Problem with matplotlib in Value Tool on Mac OSX

2014-02-23 Thread Agustin Lobo
(reported in http://hub.qgis.org/issues/4536, reporting to this list following
suggestion by Etienne)

After installing qgis, gdal and all python modules from kyngchaos on
a mac running 10.9.1, Value tools (0.8.1) issues the message
Need QWt=5.0 or matplotlib =1.0!

I assumed that pyparsing was included in the matplotlib installed from
kyngchaos, as those
installations are tuned for qgis and R.
Anyway, I installed pyparsing using
sudo /usr/bin/easy_install pyparsing
as suggested by
http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/73504/how-to-install-matplotlib-and-pyparsing-correctly-on-osx-lion

Unfortunately, I still get the same message in QGIS/Value Tool.

Nevertheless, if I open a python session on the terminal or in the
python terminal of QGIS, I can run the pyparsing test:

from pyparsing import Word, alphas
greet = Word( alphas ) + , + Word( alphas ) + !
hello = Hello, World!
print hello, -, greet.parseString( hello )

with no error messages.

[Qgis-user] Error in Raster/Projections/Assign Projection

2013-10-28 Thread Agustin Lobo
When I select a raster file with a wrong projection information in
Raster/Projections/Assign Projection:

1. Desired CRS Select does not work: I select a CRS but then this is not
written in the panel nor in the gdal command
2. The gdal command to be used appears to be gdalwarp. I guess this is
wrong, as gdalwarp would
reproject the raster into another CRS, while this menu is meant for
just overrriding the projection info
(which the user considers is wrong) leaving the actual raster geometry
untouched. The correct gdal command should be gdal_translate with the
-a_srs option.

Just checking before reporting this as a bug.

[Qgis-user] voronoi / thiessen in sextante

Hi,
Sextante provides two ways for drawing voronoi polygons. One called Voronoi

Re: [Qgis-user] lost 'fetch python plugins' and vector menu

2013-07-05 Thread Agustin Lobo
I think the problem roots on the fact that developers cannot invest any time
on the 1.8 version, as all efforts are concentrated on releasing the
2.0 version.
Skipping 1.9 as an stable version was an error, although perhaps human resources
implied very little alternatives.
Rather than blaming users for not reviewing previous messages in the
list, this kind
of very serious problems (from an operational point of view) and their
solutions (if exist...) should be reported
in a Known Issues page with a clearly visible link in the Download page.

yes you are right, I obviously looked not carefully enough...

Anyhow, the given solution is not working for me.
python-pyspatialite is not installed, at least not after purging
 all qgis packages.

I now also removed libspatialite5 and libspatialite3, which tore down

 entire grass and gdal

Then started again with installing qgis (ends up pulling again
 libspatialite3

Is there another repository I should use besides or instead
 ubuntugis-unstable?

The log console reported an error when QGIS is launched :
 cannot load library /usr/lib/qgispython : (libqgispython.so: Cannot

I did have libqgispython.so.1.8.0 in /usr/lib, so I tried renaming it to
 just libqgispython.so.
Now I have another error message :
 cannot load library /usr/lib/qgispython : (libpython2.6.so.1.0: Cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory)

It's strange because I use Python 2.7 and not Python 2.6... There seems
to be some confusion here. I will try to investigate further, I'll be
glad for your help if you have any other idea.

Oh, so definitely you have no Python. Sorry, I missed the last
 sentence in your
first mail, where you wrote the Python console is NOT working.

Well, seems the libqgispython is compiled against Python 2.6 and tries to
access it. The question is which package the libqgispython.so.1.8.0 comes
 from.

If it comes from the recent python-qgis installation, then it seems to be
broken: there is the invalid file name and the unfulfilled dependency
 on Py 2.6.
So maybe it's an old file? First I'd reinstall all qgis related
 packages to
ensure all recent files are installed (probably you already did it a few
times). Then I'd look at installed files and dependencies in package
details in Synaptic. Maybe you'll find an answer there, why QGIS looks
 for
libqgispython.so file, while another library name is installed.

Anyway, I'm not very familiar with present Ubuntu world; a few years
 ago I
gave up, came back to good old Debian and my life became much simpler ;)

[Qgis-user] QGIS with SAGA in macos

2013-06-11 Thread Agustin Diez-Castillo
Hi all,
Some time ago, there were discussion on this list about running saga in
qgis for mac. As of today, the good news are that in master 499db4e it
seems that the saga commands run [1], however results are not as expected.
If I leave the raster as a temporary file something (ERROR 1: Writing
through VRTSourcedRasterBand is not supported) goes wrong, when I try to
the same but saving the result a python error [2] doesn't allow me to
create the desired tif.
Some saga command producing vector results run OK.
This time I was on macos 10.8.4.

[Qgis-user] Problems with reprojection on the fly of raster in Google Pseudomercator (epsg: 3857)

I've reprojected a geotif file form ED50 UTM31N (epsg: 23031) to
another geotif in Google Pseudomercator (epsg: 3857) using gdaltranslate
within qgis.
Surprisingly, the new file does not get to its correct position when using
reprojection on th fly in a project in ED50 UTM31N (epsg: 23031), but
this happens on linux only, it works fine (same external disk, same project)
on MacOSX.
qgis 1.8 in both cases.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Really sad.
Is the problem with Mrsid the only reason why you have had to take the
VirtualBox solution?
Crashes of debian-nightly master are to be expected, though.
So, we should all understand that the only way to use Mrsid on linux
qgis is and will be
that the user compiles gdal with that support?

Re: [Qgis-user] SAGA-GIS on OS X 10.7

Dear all,
After some success installing SAGA, I've tried editing SagaUtils.py and
hard coding the SAGA_FOLDER to /usr/local/bin with not success. Having not
knowledge of python, it seems to me that the following else clause should
work in mac as well.

if SextanteUtils.isMac():
testfolder = os.path.join(str(QgsApplication.prefixPath()),
bin)
if os.path.exists(os.path.join(testfolder, saga_cmd)):
folder = testfolder
else:
testfolder = /usr/local/bin
if os.path.exists(os.path.join(testfolder, saga_cmd)):
folder = testfolder

and the same in the next call to Mac

elif SextanteUtils.isMac():
fout.write(export SAGA_MLB= + SagaUtils.sagaPath() +
/../lib/saga\n);
fout.write(export PATH= + SagaUtils.sagaPath() + :$PATH\n);
else:
pass
for command in commands:
fout.write(saga_cmd + command.encode(utf8) + \n)

In this case I have doubts if SAGA_MLB should be ../lib/saga\n instance
of /../lib/saga\n

I've tested most of the above option with no success whatsoever
Error messages are not always the same but the further I get is to:

Anyways, I've been working on a packaging plan for saga within qgis. I
just got to the point of testing it, and it looks like Sextante does not
care if the saga tools are in the current PATH (ie the QGIS bin folder), it
requires a saga path to be configured in Sextante. Problem is, there is a
saga path option in the code, but there is no way to configure it in the
Sextante preferences dialog box. Orfeo and GRASS both have the preferences
to set their paths, so this must be an oversight.

SDKs are really only needed when you compile on one system for an
earlier system, like on Lion (10.7) for Snow Leopard (10.6)
So, maybe my first compilation should work with 10.6 and 10.8. I did
check both with no stable results.

The binaries created should not work on 10.6 because you used a 10.7
SDK. It should work on 10.8. The compilation method should work on all
systems as long as the SDK, macosx-version-min and CXX options are adjusted
to match (no need to set CXX on 10.6).

I prepared a package [1] in case anyone want to test this.
Anyhow, if we're discussing that here is because we want to use SAGA
via SEXTANTE in Qgis and there I have no success whatsoever. In my system,
saga_cmd works but Qgis tells me that the SAGA installation maybe is not
correct. I did put /usr/local/lib/saga on my path as well.

How did you add it to your path? Adding it to .bash_profile will not
work. And that's the wrong path anyways, it should be /usr/local/bin.

  I added both to .bash_profile
If QGIS can't find /usr/local/bin without help (no way to do that in
QGIS 1.8, unless Sextante has a configuration option for the SAGA path),
one way would be to compile directly into the QGIS app. Add to the SAGA
 configure command:

  --prefix=/Applications/QGIS.app/Content/MacOS
I did something like that to build my saga but did not think about
putting this in QGIS. So maybe you can build QGIS with saga in the near
 future?
  --prefix=/Applications/SAGA.app

it will then install into the QGIS app bin/ folder which QGIS/Sextante
should find automatically. Though you can't move or rename QGIS now or it
 will break SAGA.

There are other issues when running SAGA but I guess those belong to
 the SAGA list.

2013-04-04 Thread Agustin Diez-Castillo
Other approaches compile in 10.7. Thanks William
SDKs are really only needed when you compile on one system for an earlier
system, like on Lion (10.7) for Snow Leopard (10.6)
So, maybe my first compilation should work with 10.6 and 10.8. I did check
both with no stable results. I prepared a package [1] in case anyone want
to test this.
Anyhow, if we're discussing that here is because we want to use SAGA via
SEXTANTE in Qgis and there I have no success whatsoever. In my system,
saga_cmd works but Qgis tells me that the SAGA installation maybe is not
correct. I did put /usr/local/lib/saga on my path as well.
There are other issues when running SAGA but I guess those belong to the
SAGA list.

Re: [Qgis-user] Run R RandomForest classification Script using Sextante

2013-02-20 Thread Agustin Lobo
Could you post the script with line breaks? it is almost unreadable
as you've send it.

Unless Victor has modified sextante lately, sextante does not read
raster layers in R
using the raster package, thus including the original script
http://biodiversityinformatics.amnh.org/file.php?file_id=628)

in Sextante as it is now is not going to be a major advantage.

Your fix
satImage =stack(inImage)

is probably not going to solve the bottom problem, it is just
syntactically accepted, but I do not think the variable satImage
actually get the required information. You can check with
show(satimage) and/or summary(satimage).

'overlay' is deprecated. is normal, because it is a deprecated R
function. You should use over() instead, but
read help(over) as (I think that) it does not have the same
input-output than overlay()

Victor, are you attending the upcoming meeting in Girona? Perhaps we
could find there some time to work on
Sextante and package raster.

[Qgis-user] Problem with R script in Sextante, I can't write the output

names: i_ID,j_ID). Finally, if I write the output with writeLinesShape [3]
I get the shape I'm looking for, before the algorithm crash.
AFAICT lines is an object of class SpatialLinesDataFrame
Any ideas?

[Qgis-user] Reference plane for the measure angle tool

2012-11-27 Thread Agustin Lobo
The Measure Angle Tool provides the angle between consecutive segments.
If the user wants to measure angles from N, the trick is drawing a
first vertical
segment from N to S and then the tool will provide the angle from N
for the second segment.
The difficulty is actually drawing the first segment, as the tool does
not provide any angular
information for the first segment.
I propose that the tool provide the angle from N (or any other
direction that could be configured in Settings)
for the first segment.
Please let me know if this makes sense for you, and I will open a
ticket for this.

Re: [Qgis-user] add new spanish-speaking list ?

2012-09-21 Thread Agustin Lobo
Disagree with what? I'm not saying people should use this list to post
in any language.
What I'm saying is that we are not that many and splitting by languages is going
to make things more complicated and might even reduce the
communication exchange, as many
interesting questions in Spanish, french, german etc will not be
followed by everyone. Not to say
to reduce the probabilities of getting a correct answer to a question.

Also, in my honest opinion, an elementary knowledge
of English is actually much more useful than an elementary knowledge
of GIS, and, at least for an Spanish speaker,
not very difficult. Nobody asks people to post messages in perfect
English, mine is actually quite poor
and everybody has always been kindly patient with that, going to the
core of the problems, not to the syntax.

But, as I said, if people want to do lists in different languages,
just go on. I'll miss their input to the general one.

 I totally dis-agree.
Most open source users follow a number of lists, so spend a lot of time
 weeding out emails.
If you cannot understand a language, then there is point whatsoever.
My suggestion is, is that this list enforces total English, and that a
Spanish (or other lists) be created as needed.

Although frowned upon, cross posting in this case (ie: to Spanish list in
Spanish, and English list in [good or bad] English) is preferable as it will
waste less time of the people who are willing to help, but can only
 understand English.

In short, if you want help, make the effort to make it easier and less
annoying for those who are willing and able to help.
No one (to my knowledge) ever minds bad or broken English - in fact I have
seen bad English users get better treatment because as a list, we are
really willing to help. (Bad English posts seem to get less RTFM responses).

So, think of it this way:
You get a a post in velly bad Eastern English, but you are willing to help.
If that post was in kanji (or something), you would probably think wtf?

So, spare a thought for those on this list who are just as clueless about
 Hispanic and other languages.

What if I posted in Hungarian?

[Qgis-user] Orfeo Toolbox in qgis 1.8 under linux?

2012-09-21 Thread Agustin Lobo
Can OTB currently be used from QGIS 1.8. under linux?

I do not have it within QGIS/Sextante, despite having OTB installed.

When I try to install the plugin Orfeo Toolbox Module interface
I get:
Failed to unzip the plugin package. Probably it's broken or missing
from the repository. You may also want to make sure that you have
write permission to the plugin directory:

[Qgis-user] Many greyed tools in qgis 1.8.01 menu

2012-09-14 Thread Agustin Lobo
I'm having an unexpected behaviour of qgis 1.8.01 on ubuntu 10.04:
when I open a project (no matter recent or old) many tools
are disabled, including layer/properties. Also, the right button of
the mouse does not work.
See picture here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3180464/greyed.jpg

If I load any layer, then the right button keeps on failing but the
tools are no longer
greyed. I can remove the layer, the buttons keep working. But even if
I save the project
(no matter with or without the new layer), the next time I start qgis
(or just open the project) the tools are greyed again until I load
another layer.
I have tried with qgis --noplugins : same problem

I observe that Control rendering order is off by default (not sure how
it was before).

May be there is some option that I'm not aware of?

The same projects work fine on a Mac.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, and this is actually
http://hub.qgis.org/issues/6093
which I had solved. By some reason I got python-matplotlib 0.99.1.2 installed

Just to note in the passing, the current version python-matplotlib 1.1.1

So it seems it' s time to leave this excellent distro behind...

Re: [Qgis-user] manageR doesn't work well

2012-08-12 Thread Agustin Lobo
Unfortunately, I think that manageR is not being developed
since a long time ago. This is unfortunate, as manageR implied that
QGIS could ultimately be used as the geographic display of R (the most
popular scientific OS project,
with 6M users), which has very developed spatial packages including
raster support and a rgeos package in development.

There is the current alternative of running R scripts through the
SEXTANTE plugin in qgis, but have not
explored this alternative in depth. It is my impression, however, that
this alternative is not intended to be as user-friendly
as manageR.

I have tested manageR on Ubuntu Gnome with QGIS 1.6 and R 2.11.1 and now
the same shapefile that I was testing can be loaded. Now, I can perform some

 working?

I still have an issue with manageR on Ubuntu. I cant load the shapefile

When I load the data with the option Import layer attribute it seems to
work. Someone have an idea why the first option is not working? Anybody has
successfully used manageR in a Windows 7 environment?

Re: [Qgis-user] gps tool: greyed buttons

2012-08-12 Thread Agustin Lobo
Yes again! that was it. Thanks.

Having a previously created vector layer in editing mode makes one of the 2
buttons active (depending on which kind of layer, point or line, has
been defined).
Having a button to create a new layer automatically in editing mode
within the same gps menu would be handy, in particular in the field
where navigating the menus is often tricky.

If a points layer has been selected, the user can click to add a point
in the current position. This is a good way for saving way points and
I suggest changing the label add track point to add way point
If a lines layer has been selected, clicking the Add line button
saves to the layer all the track until the moment of the click.
I think that this button should be renamed to Add track line.
What is missing (I think) is the way of automatically and continuously
adding all the track to the layer ,very much as the log file does but
in shape (or spatialite)
format and with a customized table of variables previously selected
from the nmea format. Also, the user could select saving positions
every x seconds and/or x meters.

Re: [Qgis-user] Add 3rd party repos button?

2012-08-12 Thread Agustin Lobo
I would not call that encouraging but rather pressing.

I think that by now we can see that some developers prefer keeping
their plugins in their
own repository, perhaps to stress their authorship, to make their web
sites more visible... who knows.
In any case, the availability of some important plugins such as
openlayers has become much less obvious
without the Add 3rd party plugins button.
As Carson Farmed said
I'd also like to suggest that the 'add 3rd party repos' button should
simply fetch a list of 3rd party repositories from the QGIS server
(some sort of list created by an online submission system). That way
there is no hard-coding of repos by Borys, and it's fair for all
authors. We can certainly have a few different lists (i.e. well tested
repos, experimental repos, and untested repos).

I think that the Add 3rd party plugins button (or some other simple
way of adding these repos to the list) should come back.

[Qgis-user] gps tool: greyed buttons

2012-08-11 Thread Agustin Lobo
In the GPS panel, I have always greyed the following buttons:
Add feature, Add track point and Log file
Are these buttons not yet available or is there a way
to make them active?

Re: [Qgis-user] gps tool: greyed buttons

2012-08-11 Thread Agustin Lobo
Yes, no problem for connecting to the gps.
Actually, I'm a bit confused because while the track is displayed on the map,
the corresponding layer is not listed in the TOC and cannot be saved.

Also, I've seen that the log file section in the menu
is not greyed before connecting to the gps , so the user can
click and select an output nmea file, but has to do so before
connecting to the gps.
Once you click connected, the log button becomes greyed (perhaps it makes sense:
the file as to be selected before starting to record data, but it
would not hurt having
a simple clarification (i.e.: (to be selected before connecting).

The Add feature and Add track point buttons are always greyed, cannot
find the way
to get them active.

Re: [Qgis-user] Python-gdal missing

2012-08-11 Thread Agustin Lobo
Perhaps at some point a qgis installation was puting the files there, because
we are several ubuntu users with that problem. Or perhaps we all made
the same error,
who knows. The fact is that those files must be renamed or deleted
from /usr/local/lib because
they interfere with the correct ones in /usr/lib

Agus

2012/8/11 Etienne Tourigny etourigny@gmail.com:
Why do you have these files in /usr/local/lib? They are mote probably
not installed by the package manager!

Don't mix custom installs with apt packages, unless you know what
you're doing. This can lead to problems if you have different libgdal
versions installed. You can remove those *libgdal* in /usr/local/lib

I've been out in the field for few days, sorry for coming late to this part of
 the discussion.

MacOSX: The axes of the graph are drawn, but the following message:
There are no statistics in the following rasters:
 TTC1312v2
 Calculate?

is displayed over and over no matter the user answers Yes or No.
The user has to bring the message outside the map area (over the
Layers list) but then either answering Yes or No Qgis crashes.
If the user does not answer the message over the map area but brings
it to the Layer list area and then
answers either Yes or No, the graphic is displayed and the plugin works.
The matplotlib option is not present.

Linux (ubuntu 11:04). Plugin version 0.4.0
Works fine with both qwt and matplotlib, although much faster with Qwt
 (but speed is not
a concern here, the graphics are displayed for thinking a while).
Answering Yes or No has the same consequence: the stats are calculated
 and the graph is displayed

Linux (ubuntu 10:04): will test tomorrow at the office.

 Many thanks!

I found the reason and the fix:
I had several old (2010) libgdal* files (including libgdal.so.*) in

Deleting (actually moving them to another directory just in case) the
ones in /usr/local/lib
makes a clean start up of qgis.

Re: [Qgis-user] [Qgis-developer] Fwd: qgis 1.8 on MAC: Problem with qwt and more

2012-07-25 Thread Agustin Lobo
Etienne suggested this problem could be caused by an old version of matplotlib.
On ubuntu 10.04, the newest is python-matplotlib 0.99.1.2.
I solved the problem by:
1. uninstalling python-matplotlib 0.99.1.2. (et. al) using synaptic
2. Visiting http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/ and Downloading from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/matplotlib/files/matplotlib/matplotlib-1.1.1/
3. Installing according to
http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/users/installing.html
cd matplotlib
python setup.py build
python setup.py install
(I added sudo to make sure the files would be copied to the /usr
directories)

ValueTool works fine on ubuntu 10.04 with both qwt and matplotlib

Thanks!

I reinstalled matplotlib from

 Thanks Noli.

Go to View/Panels and you can activate it there.
Then display a multilayer raster and check both qwt and matplotlib.

If matplotlib is working for you then most likely is that I've done
 something wrong in the installation.
Will check this evening and report back.

How to do you check if matplotlib is not find by value tool?

I installed matplotlib following directions in

and using the dmg provided there.
By some reason, while matplotlib is installed, qgis (and the new

2012-07-24 Thread Agustin Lobo
Yes, actually this is why I thought it had been included as core in 1.8.
But meanwhile, having a plugin is a very good solution. Also, we can
use the plugin as a testbed and discuss
different improvements, like customizing the axes.
The table is not enough, you need a graph as soon as you have more
than 3 numbers...

Easiest short-term would be to port the plotting to matplotlib.

Also, is the raster interface going to change enough to break this plugin?

I would say yes, this plugin is pretty much fundamental when doing
some kind of raster analysis with QGIS/GRASS.

[Qgis-user] qgis 1.8 on MAC: Problem with qwt and more

2012-07-21 Thread Agustin Lobo
Hi!

I've installed qgis 1.8 on Mac OS 10.7.4 from
http://www.kyngchaos.com/software/qgis
including all dependencies mentioned there (with grass), but some
plugins (i.e. Profile Tool)
and Value Tool (most important for me) complain about PyQt4 and Qwt5.

Also, some plugins such as statis complain about not having matplotlib despite
it is installed.

Finally, I always get a crash at quitting Qgis, which generates a lon
report that
I've uploaded here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3180464/aloboMacOSqgis18report.txt

Any help with these problems?

Thanks

PyQwt is not compatible with the latest PyQt (which is needed to run on
10.7), and as far as I could find probably never will be. So I don't bundle
it with QGIS, and plugin developer need to figure out an alternative graphing
 toolbox to use.

But Valuetool is now installed by default with the main qgis
installation (perhaps it is actually part of the core?) and its
graphics are essential to
display multi-spectral and multi-temporal information for raster
layers. Actually I see it as rather a blocking issue. Display of
raster layers is actually very limited in Qgis, so losing
this feature is really bad news.

Have to check if this problem occurs just on Mac OS.

Also, some plugins such as statis complain about not having matplotlib

 How did you install matplotlib?
Downloading from http://www.kyngchaos.com/software/python and double
click on the dmg.
But works after rebooting, we can forget about this one.

 Don't know about this one.

Then this is really bad...

Vector/Geometry Tools/Extract nodes will create a points layer,

Great, very useful comment, thanks for telling us.

I wish somebody would update Google Layers
plugin. OpenLayers is slow, unwieldly and can't zoom in far enough for my
needs. I'm satisfied with Google Layers
I use Open Layers very intensively and find it a wonderful tool,
pretty fast and reliable. I think the speed is related to the internet
connection.
Actually, in general, Open Layers is faster than adding a layer
through WMS and zooming in and out with it.

After installing qgis1.8 on win7 I have found the following problems:
 1. A bad allocation error at reading a project saved from qgis 1.8 on
 ubuntu 10.04
 2. The second time I've started qgis, the layers list does not work:
2.1. The icons defining the layer as vector or raster are missing
2.2. The right button does not work (the submenu does not come up),
although the tools can be launched from
 the top menu (i.e. Layers/Properties).

Does anybody else have found similar problems?

 Thanks

 Dear all,

I'm using Lisboa on Ubuntu 12.04 and since a few days I'm getting this error
 message at start up:

 Unable to load GdalTools plugin.
The required osgeo [python-gdal] module is missing.
 Install it and try again.

 But it is installed:

 $ dpkg --get-selections | grep gdal
 gdal-bin                                        install
 libgdal1                                        install
 libgdal1-1.7.0                                  install
 python-gdal                                     install

In any case, QGis seems to be working perfectly fine, at least for the stuff
I've been doing: connect to PostGIS, to WMS/WFS servers, create and edit
 vectors.

Any ideas on what may be causing this message to show up?

 Thank you.
