Well, you could also turn it into a Tetris game if you hex edit enough
of the DOS executable, still that is not a standard feature ;-)
Granted, changing the file names might somewhat easier.

You can have your QXL win files anywhere you ike by editing the dos executable
with a suitable dos editor.
That is what I have done and so I keep my QXL files in a seperate parition and
directory.

[Ql-Users] Micro Men on BBC4 - Excellent Stuff, QL is mentioned!!

2009-10-08 Thread Darren Branagh
Hi All,

I have just finished watching Micro Men, the Sinclair/Acorn
Documentary on BBC4, and is was truly excellent - a real nostalgic
trip down memory road.

Some wonderful scenes in it - I had forgotten Sir Clive and Chris
Curry had a fight in a bar!!

And some lovely clips grom "how to make the most of your micro" and
the famous Quantum Leap advert.

And yes - the QL gets a few mentions - mainly due to its failure as a
business machine.

If anyone is interested - its repeated tonight on BBC4 at 11.55pm if
you missed it earlier.

Cheers,

Darren.

If the current suppliers want, I can write a Walk Through' for the game,
as I don't think anyone ever finished it.

In the review by Richard Mellor- it was mentioned there was a bug regarding not
being mentioned that you had to type your commands in CAPSLOCK, but in the
instructions we included in the pack, on the last inside page, we advised that
COMMANDS should be typed in captals and some of the examples shown, iunder
'COMMANDS', were all in capitals. Also you only needed to type in the first 4
letters of a command to get the instruction to work.

We developed our interest in the Text Adventures, after playing ZSkul, written
by Talent and while not exactly copying their ideas, we developed our game
along similar lines. We felt we included some enhancements to make the game
more interesting, by having the characters able to say things and converse with
the player-rather than just have lines like 'A Dwarf enters'.

Also as an added bit of humour, when you fired your space gun-an arrow raced
across the screen, with a sound effect added. Also, our characters were able
to carry things on your behalf and also take independent actions and we had a
lot more commands to fit certain situations. For example if a scene said 'You
can see a pile of rocks' then typing in 'CLIMB rocks you got a result. Also if
you found a hyperdermic syringe, you could type in INJECT syringe etc.

Well it just goes to show that the QL Wiki is already having a positive
effect and bringing back some of the old authors !

David (and Jaspar) it is great to hear from you - at the moment, Dark
Side of the Moon is not available to purchase, except to people who can
prove that they own the original. We would love to bring it back to the
market either as public domain or as a commercial offering, with a 25%
royalty - that also applies to some of the other software on the ql wiki
which is no longer available new. Contact me off list if you wish to
discuss this further.

A walk through would be helpful to assist those people wanting to play
the game, as would the manual text / artwork if they are still
available. Luckily, we do not have to worry about sources, as the
original adventure was written in SuperBASIC.

[Ql-Users] QPC2 and direct sector access

2009-10-08 Thread matrassyl
Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a way to open a direct sector access channel from
SBASIC to a non PC FAT formatted hard disk such as a Q60 formatted compact
flash card. I have tried to do this with errt=FOP_DIR(#4,dos4_). While FOP_DIR
returns 0 suggesting success the device as seen has a dimension of 0, so that
INPUT#4,a$ get an end of file error message.

Thanks
