Funny thing is, I unpacked it and thought Oh god, this being QL software I'll probably have to configure it first to let it know where its sound files are etc., how annoying. This would be so much easier if people just used the Home directory extension Wolfgang and I had developed and what do you know, it did exactly just that! :) After unpacking it somewhere clicking the exe was all it needed to make it work, that was a very nice surprise indeed! Also, I like the quit dialog :) Although I put the program in an existing obscure directory (called Tobias) it ran without configuratrion. But there was no sound. Perhaps I should read the manual. Didn't score more than about 400 thus far, though. But I'll try just one more time now... It's a horribly addictive, but very good, program. I managed a score of 967 I think. What is the limit? Re: [Ql-Users] New QJewels game
Although I put the program in an existing obscure directory (called Tobias) it ran without configuratrion. But there was no sound. Perhaps I should read the manual. Two possibilities: 1. Sound can be configured off or on. 2. Needs the Sampled Sound System extensions (QL SSS). On QPC2 that means installing the SOUND4_BIN file from the SSS package (not sure if the '4' in the filename varies from version to version). If you haven't already got the QL Sampled Sound System get it from my website at http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/sound/index.html It's a horribly addictive, but very good, program. I managed a score of 967 I think. What is the limit? Agreed. Quanta mag may well be late this month while I try to stop playing this game :-) Tobias - do you know if there is a high score limit? I know 6 digits can be shown! Dilwyn Jones ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

But I think Dilwyn has set the target already quite high proven with the screenshot on his site. I never managed to get this far, yet. Tobias - do you know if there is a high score limit? I know 6 digits can be shown! Keep on trying, Dilwyn - If you hit the program with getting beyond 999k points, it will strike back by going into exponential notation ;) Cheers, Tobias // Who actually reserves the right to fiddle with the scoring in future. Today, it's a tad simple - just counting jewels and // multiplying by the amount of fall down loops achieved. Currently, there is no bonus for achieving more than one row // or more than three jewels removed per move. ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

Didn't score more than about 400 thus far, though. But I'll try just one more time now... Cheers, Marcel just one more time now in the early hours of the morning... Ha, Marcel is addicted! Seriously though, Tobias has made good use of the facilities in recent SMSQ/E, GD2 etc. by making use of high colour, high resolution, colourful sprites, animation, sound, Home Directory extension and so on. It's one of those games that show the capabilities of modern QL systems. Interestingly, it was written using Easyptr and compiled with Turbo. Thanks to George Gwilt, Easyptr programs can be Turbo compiled these days, although most people (myself included) tend to use Easyptr with QLiberator compiler. Tobias also used George's U-Config to give QJewels a level 2 config block, so you can, for example, configure it using MenuConfig to use different sound files if you really want to. Or if you prefer, turn the sound off altogether! Having said that, I haven't yet been able to try it with SMSQ/E on QemuLator, Aurora, Q40 etc - if anyone can try it on one of these systems I'm sure Tobias would value the feedback. Hah! That screen dump shows well above 2000 points! You must have burned quite a bit of time! Tobias Am 16.07.2012 um 18:10 schrieb Dilwyn Jones: Be prepared to waste a lot of time on this one! QJewels is a free new game for GD2 systems (e.g. QPC2), based on the popular Jewels genre. QJEWELS is a colourful and (if you have the Sampled Sound System installed on your system) noisy game. Arrange three or more jewels in a horizontal or vertical line to remove them and earn points - to move a jewel just drag and drop it one square away to form a line of three or more of those jewels. Standard or compact screen display. Hint mode. Automatic no more moves display. Pointer driven program. A screen dump is shown on the Games page on my website. To be able to run this game you'll need a GD2 hi-res display system and SMSQ/E. Sampled Sound System optional - get sound accompaniment if you have that system. Most basic requirement - lots of time! Tobias Fröschle wrote: Hah! That screen dump shows well above 2000 points! You must have burned quite a bit of time! Tobias G, way too much time! Hadn't really noticed that particular score, but the score is up to 6 digits long so I'd say I have some way to go yet to reach the maximum. A high score table (to remember my scores) would a great addition to the next version. Along with an 'Undo' function to correct my mistakes...
