Careful it is not too near the Quanta AGM. That clashed with the
US
  show last year.
I don't know whether a date for the AGM is fixed.
There is nothing on the website (www.quanta.org.uk).
It doesn't even mention the Byfleet Quanta workshop in a few
weeks.
  Odd.

Geoff - is anything fixed, and why is there nothing on the
website?

Why should I know? I am only a committee member!

Seriously, now you know why I have been jumping up and down
screaming for
 the last few weeks.

At the last committee meeting on Saturday 23 May 2004 (sic) the
proposal was
that there would be an early AGM in February probably in a hotel
somewhere
in the South East combined with QL2005. As you well know since then
nothing
 happened until Dilwyn's intervention.
It wasn't so much an intervention, more canvassing of opinion
regarding dates following an email conversation with Roy Brereton and
others. There were dates available end february/early march for the
venue suggested, but the general feeling among traders etc (regular
show attendees) was that it was too soon after QL2004. Given that
QL2004 worked quite well in October after the effort you and
Sin-QL-air put into it over a long period of time including a specific
show web page and all the other publicity, general opinion seemed to
show that most people seemed more in favour of a show in the second
half of 2005, giving more time to publicise and plan the event.
Although it wasn't specifically mentioned to any great degree, one
person did make a good suggestion that the end of Feb/early March
dates were perhaps a bit close to the AGM normally held a month or two
later. The views expressed were sent on to Roy and that's as much as I
know at the moment. I wasn't trying to interfere, I just hoped that my
position as editor of Toady would help solicit views, that's all.

Given that I'm geographically far apart from most QLers, and don't get
to attend as many workshops as I used to, I was just glad to be able
to use my editorial position and email group facilities to do what I
could to help.

Your QL2004 website contributed a lot to the success of that event I'm
sure. Whatever your level of frustration within the committee, are you
prepared to host such a page again for a QL2005 whenever (and I think
it is more WHEN than IF even though there's not much public output
from the committee about it yet) it may occur?

I'd quite happy to host one as well, now I've got more web
space available if
people send me the material to use for it. Careful use of search
engine keywords mean we should able to get it quite well ranked, in
response to searches for QL, show, and the usual keywords people
would use, since there isn't that much competition out there for QL
and such subjects as long as we're careful to get the search keywords
right. The more publicity for the event the better. Attendance at QL
shows is lower than it used to be, but well publicised events can
still work well as QL2005 showed.

Like I said to you a month or so ago. It is not what happens in Quanta
committee meetings, but what happens, or more accurately does not happen,
outside the meetings that is the problem!

[ql-users] QL Meeting in Spain

2004-11-10 Thread SMSQ - Jochen Merz
Why not in Spain the next year?
We will celebrate the 20 aniversary of the QL Spanish Version.
We have already place. It will be in Madrid, on March 5.
would you like this?
Well, we would like to come! Roy Wood, Marcel Kilgus and I have already
discussed a possible meeting in Spain some months ago (Madrid,
Barcelona) in combination with a short holiday, but we did not know
whom to contact.

So we asked Graham Wall, who partially lives in Spain, some weeks ago,
and he forwarded our request.
However, March is not really ideal for a combined short holiday
(and a visit to the roller coasters at Movie World Madrid) :-)
We would really like to come, and Madrid sounds perfect, but would
prefer a nicer time of the year, like end of May, or June.

It seems to be a very good coincidence, and we'd like very much to
come and meet Spanish QLers ...

Exactly. I received a mail, and it was answered, but I have not had news.
I had thought to write you directly in a few weeks, but on having seen
this thread I saw the opportunity.

We would like that it was in April 16 or a date near to this one,
because it is the exact date of the celebration of 20 anniversary of the
QL MGE, and, curiously, it is the third anniversary of our web of
spanish resources, but we think that it's better, and more profitable,
to meet other users of computers retro, It is for this that we have
chosen a meeting called MadriSX and Retro, a meeting that started by
belonging exclusively to users of MSX, and now is for the whole
retro-scene in Spain.

I have said more profitable for several motives, but mainly because
the QL scene in Spain is very small, but we are very integrated by
Spectrum's community, which starts knowing now this machine, and the
collectors scene.that it is valuing at the moment to incorporate QLs to
its collection.

However, March is not really ideal for a combined short holiday
(and a visit to the roller coasters at Movie World Madrid) :-)

Do you remember that of The rain in Spain... :)
Well. May is a generally a rainy month in Madrid, but the temperature is
very pleasant.

It seems to be a very good coincidence, and we'd like very much to
come and meet Spanish QLers ...
I'm going to make the necessary preparations and to contact with spanish
users to communicate your decision if finally stays interested in coming
in May.

I will be able to give more information in December.
There are several things to consider:
1.- As I already said, we are few users of QL and we will be with more
people of other retro-systems.

2.- Our level of English is terrible, that I hope that we pruned to
understand to us, although with difficulty.

3.- And what is worse, our knowledge on QL are those of anyone in 1991.
It is necessary to consider that there are been long time far from the
international QL scene.

But:
We are interested in extending ours users circle.
We want to know the new features and capacities of the QL now, and in
acquiring some Trump Cards. :)

We know the language of the Indians in the far west films, and always
the resorted phrase of I Tarzan, You Jane :)

I am going to have it in consideration.
If we can reunite more than 5 users interested, could make the meeting
in June or July. Another event called Euskal Party in Bilbao or San
Sebastián by those dates exists. This event is one party so as, as
Assembly demo party in Finland but also has a retro-section called
Euskal Retro.

I have interest in making coincider the meeting with another event to
obtain greater attendance, and to present the QL the rest of user groups
and the collectors. This also will be the first meeting of QL users in
long time.

That would mean a show earlier than early May would not be sensible.
One would not normally plan a show without 5 or 6 months notice.

In July air fares jump in price.
