Re: [Qmail-scanner-general]corrupt or unknown clamd scanner error

 Upgrading clamd helped here.

To .. ?

I'm already running the latest stable release, 0.80. I just want to make
sure that this problem is a result of the interim machine I'm running on
(the one that's a little underpowered), rather than my config.

This problem was attended by one my colleaque. I don't know exactly what he
did. But he was telling it was related to permissions. Some where in the
internet I saw that the clamd user must be same as qmail-scanner user. You
will also have to check the file permissions accordingly, ie. clamav files
having user as clamav should be changed to qmail-scanner user. Hope this may
help you in solving the problem. If you solve it, let me also know as I am
also trying to solve this in a test machine.

Check the qmailrocks web site - http://www.qmailrocks.org - and check
the forums

I think you'll find that the integration instructions for
qmail-scanner/qmail/clamav will help you fix the issue.

Thanks to the both of you, but my problem is _intermittent_, not
constant. I double-checked permissions again (they appear fine),
but if it were a permissions problem I would think the issue would
appear all the time. That _seems_ like a reasonable assumption to
make, anyway. :)

Which is why I'm fairly sure the current machine is just getting
overloaded every now and then, but I'd like to be sure of that if
at all possible. I can get by until the new box is in place, no
problem. I just want to verify that the error is indeed resources.

If it's intermittent, it's virtually guaranteed to be resources. Add
more ram :)

Agreed.

This install will be replaced by an AMD64 with 2GB of RAM in two weeks,
so I'm going to limp along until then. :)

Thanks!

[Qmail-scanner-general]corrupt or unknown clamd scanner error

2005-01-14 Thread C. Bensend

Hey folks,

I just upgraded my main mailserver, and suddenly I'm getting several
(ie, a dozen or two) of these errors each day, out of possibly a thousand
or two thousand messages:

Jan 14 18:00:32 host X-Qmail-Scanner-1.24:
[host.bennyvision.com110574723048612678] clamdscan: corrupt or unknown
clamd scanner error or memory/resource/perms problem - exit status 512/2

Jan 14 19:23:48 host X-Qmail-Scanner-1.24:
[host.bennyvision.com110575222748610136] clamdscan: corrupt or unknown
clamd scanner error or memory/resource/perms problem - exit status 512/2

I cannot see a correlation between the errors and specific oversized
emails. Nor do these errors seem to do any damage that I have been
able to determine yet.

Now, this server is slightly underpowered for what I'm asking it to
do right now (qmail-scanner, IMAP, clamd, SpamAssassin), and I've seen
it dip into swap several times. I'm in the process of building out a
new box that's four times as fast and more RAM, so I want to be sure
this is indeed because the current machine is just struggling every so
often and not because I've bunged something up. :)

This server is running OpenBSD 3.6-STABLE on i386, PIII 700 with
512M of PC100 RAM. The new one is the same OS on an AMD64 3000+ with
1G (for now) of DDR400 RAM. Oh, running netqmail-1.05 as well.

Is there a way to determine definatively that this is indeed a
resource issue?

Thanks much!

Benny
