For me , that command works.
I also modified IMAPDSSLSTART=NO and IMAP_TLS_REQUIRED=1

Catalin (and others): have you succeeded in disabling SSLv3 in courier? When I
try this configuration, I am unable to connect even with a TLS-compatible
client, not even the openssl itself:

openssl s_client -state -nbio -connect mail.example.com:993

I get this output:

 CONNECTED(0003)
 turning on non blocking io
 SSL_connect:before/connect initialization
 SSL_connect:SSLv2/v3 write client hello A
 SSL_connect:error in SSLv2/v3 read server hello A
 write R BLOCK
 SSL_connect:error in SSLv2/v3 read server hello A
 read:errno=54

According to the openssl documentation, this error usually results from the
connection not being able to auto-negotiate a suitable ssl version to use. So,
I force a TLS connection using -tls1:

openssl s_client -state -nbio -connect oak2.strangecode.com:993 -tls1

And then I get a successful connection with the openssl client. The problem is
the real IMAP client I use (Gyazmail) doesn't connect (thought it does support
TLS). Perhaps it is trying SSLv3 first, and fails to negotiate to TLS?

I read also some Courier versions have this problem, some not [1]. I'd
appreciate if you could run the above openssl command (without -tls1) and let
me know if it connects for you or not.

BTW, if you want to test that your server refuses SSLv3 connections, run the
openssl client with '-ssl3'.

But how about SMTP ? How to disable SSLv3 over 587 submission port ?

 If you turn off SSLv3, that includes TLS, so you'd better turn
off plain and

Regarding this StackExchange information:

http://security.stackexchange.com/questions/70832/why-doesnt-the-tls-protocol-work-without-the-sslv3-ciphersuites

there is no need to disable ciphers, but only SSL v3 protocol (POODLE
is a protocol, not cipher, problem)?

Here you can find software specific instructions for disabling SSL v3,
including Dovecot:

https://linode.com/docs/security/security-patches/disabling-sslv3-for-poodle

I haven't tried these yet as it seems I need to upgrade my Dovecot
installations first to be able to disable sslv3...

[qmailtoaster] Avoid email clients certificate validation error

2010-12-08 Thread Catalin Leanca

Hello,

I bought a wildcard ssl certificate from geotrust. ( *.my_domain.tld )

I configured this certificate on my email server as instructed on
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Certificate

The problem is that email clients like Thunderbird fail to validate this
certificate
because of the name. My server is like mail.my_domain.tld and the CN on
the certificate

is *.my_domain.tld (see the NOTE on the wiki page above)

Any help on how to avoid verification errors ??

Thanks,

I think this is caused by the broken freshclam.conf that's in the
package.

Solution: Comment line 8 and uncomment line 17.
   Also modify line 17 to UpdateLogFile
/var/log/clamav/freshclam.log

Worked fine here. Care to share some details? OS? New
install/upgrade? Switches used when building? Did you modify the spec
file?

Otherwise you did not give me anything to review or research.

Shooting in the dark (and making some guesses), I was able to
reproduce the issue.
From initial analysis, it seems the routine that does not start
freshclam if it's in a sandbox for qtp-newmodel is causing the post
script to fail. You can probably safely ignore this for now - I will
work on a fix tomorrow and get a new release out in the next day or two.

I recenty installed the latest QT and added one domain and some user
accounts
with qmailadmin. The format for user accounts is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The problem is that i noticed that all incoming mail for addresses like
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
are not bounced, instead are sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] account.

The smtp log shows that CHKUSER found existing recipient.

How can i resolve this issue ?

Thanks,

I also mention that i use an older version of QT ( 1.2.10 i think) since 2005
and
the messages are bounced correctly.

Thank you JP for your responses.

I managed to fix it by commenting
#define CHKUSER_ENABLE_USERS_EXTENSIONS
in chkuser_settings.h

Then I am probably wrong, would have to check the differences.

I now understand you ment litteral name-something, first read it different.

You are right this is accepted as a valid email address, this is needed for
ezmlm lists.

The only way to disable is change the settings in chkuser_settings.h

/*
* Enables checking for EZMLM lists
* this define substitutes #define CHKUSER_ENABLE_LISTS
*
*/
#define CHKUSER_ENABLE_EZMLM_LISTS

Would be nice to change this into a runtime option...

I got the same problem with Fedora Core 5.
I searched for a solution but the only thing that worked
was the upgrade to Fedora Core 6.

 user Courier, on my main machine I use BincImap). Could someone
 please summarize the current wisdom on fixing this issue? Thanks,
