RE: [qmailtoaster] How to upgrade

RE: [qmailtoaster] How to upgrade
Helmut, That response was not directed at you. I too have limited time. Working a full time job and running a small ISP pretty much kills me, QMT has been my savior - especially the ISO. FWIW - I just launched newmodel and am letting it upgrade clamav and squirrelmail right now. I will tell you how it went. Hopefully spamassassin gets an upgrade soon. -Original Message- From: Helmut Fritz [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2008 3:42 PM To: qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com Subject: RE: [qmailtoaster] How to upgrade Just to be clear - I am not naysaying the work or anything else that folks here do. I am most appreciative, especially the QMT-ISO project. I might not be running Qmail if not for it. I just personally don't have a lot of spare time to troubleshoot and do workarounds when I run into problems, and therefore waiting is best for me. I know it will be fixed eventally. -Original Message- From: Jack D. I have a toaster that has been up for some time with no upgrades. The last time I tried to upgrade, everything went to crap. RE: [qmailtoaster] New Install Problems
I finally got that RPM to install - the problem is that the spec for the toaster RPMS is looking at default build as there is no mdv2007. I had to tweak the spec files from then on, and got them all to install - until I got to spamassassin. I could not get it to go no matter what. I finally gave up and formatted the server. I downloaded the qmt-iso - and let it go, but alas there is still no joy in mudville. Something did not go right. The admin is not working properly. I also see an LDAP error in the httpd logs. I am going to format it again - start over, and see what happens, I think I may have fubar'ed something. I really do not like CentOS - I love Mandriva, but I do not want to fight that fight with the toaster. I suppose it is because Mandrake is what I have grown comfortable with. That and the fact that I am far from a guru - and Mandriva has a lot of things to make life easy, and a very active community. Seems there are more RPM's avail too - unlike CentOS. Anyway - thanks for the well wishes, I will sleep eventually - I was really hoping at 3am that it was golden, but oh well. Had to go on a field trip with kindergarten today, and 2nd grade tomorrow. My customers are going to lynch me!!! As far as the vpopmail password, you want to make sure it's using the right one for the database. I wasn't able to change the admin password when I first installed mine, either. I actually turned it off on the first one. I have it set as a default - I always forget to turn it on when I need it. So you can imagine how often I remember to turn it off. I hate the confirmations too - hence the reason I clicked the little box that says don't ask me again. ;-) Jack D. Martin, Jr. Magic Wireless Internet Service Provider, LLC [EMAIL PROTECTED] P.O. For some silly reason - I want this project to do well, I am basing a server, my one and only mail server on that. Maybe I am the silly one - I don't know. Please don't ask my wife to answer that one!!! We are a very small wireless ISP in a rural area in Oklahoma, and I mean rural. We are going to use the toaster to provide email services for that ISP. As I have said in the past - I am a linux newb, but the people I have conversed with thus far, have sold me on open source. Sorry to ramble - it is late, and has been a long week. I am going to try to get this thing completed tomorrow evening, I am just looking for the answers to make sure that a stupid mistake doesn't have me re-formatting drives - again. Thanks. Jack D. [qmailtoaster] Installation Process
I sent this out the other day - and got no responses with the exception of telling me to turn off the read receipts (which I did for this one.) Can somebody please answer these quick questions for me so I can get this mail server up. I really do appreciate all of the help I have gotten here in the past. Now I want to make it work. I finally have Mandrake 10.2 installed on this old Proliant server. Just so I don't need to do it again - I want to verify the correct process for installing the toaster, please tell me any little step I am missing - I don't want to make a mess. I don't see a deps script for 10.2, so I verify that the following are all installed: Crontabs Expect Freetype freetype-devel Gd gd-devel Gdbm gdbm-devel Httpd httpd-devel Libjpeg libjpeg-devel Libpng libpng-devel mod_ssl Mrtg Mysql mysql-devel mysql-server openssl openssl-devel perl pam-devel php php-mysql php-imap zlib-devel Wget perl-suidperl perl-Time-HiRes perl-Digest-SHA1 perl-DB_File php-ldap rpm-build Gcc gcc-c++ automake autoconf Then I use the download script to get all of the needed files for the toaster install. I am assuming there is no svcs script, or firewall script for Mandrake 10.2, what do I need to verify? What do I edit in the install script to make it work properly, or do I just need to manually rebuild all of the RPM's with the rpmbuild --rebuild --with distro package.src.rpm? I know this all seems very basic - but I have had to rebuld the software on this server 3 times in the last month, and I don't want to do it again. I am very much a Linux newb, Mandrake 10.1 was my first ever distro. I have learned a ton, and this mailing list has been very helpful. You guys are as active as any forum I have ever seen. I want to learn and become part of the folks that help as much as they are helped - but I have a ways to go... - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [qmailtoaster] Help me
Ok everybody - maybe I am not making myself clear. I will restate my case, and maybe somebody will understand what I am looking for. I have Mandrake 10.1. I can use Mandrake (the graphical interfaces make it almost intuitive.) I read the Cent-OS install, and most of it does not make sense. Cent-OS uses yum, Mandrake does not. I am wondering if somebody has step by step - DETAILED - directions to do this install, including, the pathces, Clam-AV, and SpamAsassin with Mandrake 10.1. I am sorry to sound like an idiot, but let's face it - I basically am. Thanks in advance. If I am asking for too much, and I probably am, then just tell me to pi$$ off. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
