[qmailtoaster] Sent email rejected for only one user
I have a user that can not send an email to one particular domain, at least that I'm aware of. When rliso...@cotterschools.org sends and email to johnostrow...@desch.org, or any other person at the domain, he gets an immediate bounce back. However, I can send this person (johnostrow...@desch.org) an email with my account (jhan...@cotterschools.org) and he receives it without a problem. The bounce back is not very intuitive, but suggests that the recipients email server is refusing the message. The message is below. I'm leaving the email addresses and domains as they appear to help try and solve the problem. The SMTP logs on my end indicate that the message is good, and sent. I've talked with the email tech at the recipient domain, and he can not find any indication on why the email might have been rejected by his server. In fact, there's no evidence that it even hit his mail server. Bounce Message: Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail.cotterschools.org. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out. johnostrow...@desch.org: User and password not set, continuing without authentication. johnostrow...@desch.org 64.8.140.227 failed after I sent the message. It's not free, but 40$ isn't exaggerated and it does a very good job. This tool sends mails one per one. Only if you use iptables recent, you will have to exclude the senders ip-address from this rule. Andreas Thanks Andreas for the suggestion. The database software we are using to send out the emails is using a mail merge program that also sends out emails one per one. I have several options, but the person sending the emails likes using the Outlook option because it makes the emails more personable. I assume the problem is, even though the program sends the emails out one by one, that it sends them out fast enough that there is not enough time in between each email, and chkuser thinks we are violating recipient and security policies. Is there a time-out setting (SMTP?) before the next email can be sent so it can be seen as a single email and not as a large group that might be contributing to the chkuser violations? For example each email is sent out from the database as a single email, but they are still being caught by chkuser as exceeding the recipient limit. If there is a setting I can change in qmailtoaster, let me know so I can test it. [qmailtoaster] Problems emailing large number of recipients
Greetings list, I have a problem with one of my users who is trying to send out a large amount of emails (900+) at one time. We are a school, and we try to send out regular updates to our alumni regarding upcoming events and interests. These emails are generated via a database program, then sent through this particular users Outlook client. This is not spam, but to our email server, it is being treated like it. Which I appreciate. All the users in the database have asked to have emails sent to them. Below are the 2 separate bounce back messages, the tcp.smtp settings, and the spamdyke.conf setting for max recipients. It appears that the messages are still being stopped after the recipient limit hits 50. The chkuser_recptlimit=1000. What do I need to change/update in order for these to be sent out without errors? __ From: System Administrator Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 10:00 AM To: Ellen Lastname Subject:Undeliverable: Go Big Blue! [qmailtoaster] script needed
I have converted from mbox to Maildir folders on my old server. I am moving the folders from my old mail server to my new mail server which is using Maildir with Qmailtoaster. The problem is my courierimapsubscribed file is unaware of the non-default folders the users have added themselves. I need a script that can look at all the files in my existing Maildir folder that do not match the default folders (ie .Sent, .Trash, .Drafts, cur, new, tmp, etc) and then append those file names to courierimapsubscribed so that my imap clients will recognize them. For example, say my user created a Maildir/.Folder1, I need the line INBOX.Folder1 appended to courierimapsubscribed. Can anyone help me come up with a script to do this? Re: [qmailtoaster] QmailToaster with LDAP
Eric Shubert wrote: Wait a minute. I might be going to sound like an idiot here, but I'll take that chance. LDAP is a protocol, not an implementation. You can implement LDAP with a mysql backend, can you not? If so, why couldn't you have a mysql database that serves both vpopmail and ldap at the same time? I guess it'd be a matter of mapping the database schemas together somehow. If the schemas could not be merged together (a good chance of that I expect, as the vpopmail database isn't normalized well at all), worse case scenario would be having to run a process periodically that maps one schema (probably ldap) on to the other (probably vpopmail). In that way, you could share authentication data like John is looking to do. Does this make any sense at all? It makes sense, but to make a couple points clear at this point in time, when you want LDAP for Qmail it then becomes an implementation. Sure, you could change the backend to serve both vpopmail and LDAP, but that would be a major rewrite if you wanted to use the same db for the backend. Can you tie them together? Sure. The database is just a bunch of information. How you pull that info and serve it for your app is up to you and is only limited by your imagination. I could see a daemon that pulled some data from a vpopmail database (either appending extra data to the DB entries since vpopmail will ignore the extra data anyway or using another DB tableset for this) that served it up in an LDAP format. Interesting idea really. What about building a script to populate the mysql backend upon creation of a new ldap user? I'm thinking the script would pull the information from the newest user and then use mysql commands to insert that info as a new record in mysql. But that might be harder than it sounds. Just a thought. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by the Cotter Technology Department, and is believed to be clean. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Matched from: Filename: /usr/bin/nroff $ `yum install groff` and try again :) Jake, perhaps you should add groff as a BuildRequires to the qmail- toaster SRPM? -steve Thanks. I installed groff, then ran the install script (cnt5064-install-script.sh). Still returned dependency errors, so I ran the rpm (rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt5064 qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.18.src.rpm) separately, and it installed without errors. So, I then ran the install script again, still returned dependency errors. It appears that the issue maybe with what the script is looking for and what's installed. For example, exim is looking for qmail-toaster, but qmail-toaster.x86_64 is what is installed. error: Failed dependencies: exim conflicts with qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.18.x86_64 error: Failed dependencies: qmail-toaster = 1.03-1.3.18 is needed by qmail-pop3d-toaster-1.03-1.3.18.x86_64 Installing courier-authlib-toaster . . . I was not aware that exim needed to be uninstalled, only that there was a conflict. Thanks for pointing that out. After installing groff and removing exim, the install script ran without errors. Thanks again, I appreciate your insights. On to the next step in the install process.
