Erik yes.. i have thought about using the upgrade script, but can´t do that on a business week. Have to wait and spend my weekend or a long nite then. And i hope the upgrade runs smoothly then, or i have to think about a movement far away. ;) I really need to do a better job explaining how the qtp-newmodel (upgrade scripts) work. You don't need a weekend or even a long night. It's true that the process takes a long time, but most of it can be run while the toaster is 'live'. The upgrade portion itself takes 1-10 minutes, depending on how many packages are upgraded, and your processor speed. The qmail-toaster package takes most of the time, due to key generation. An upgrade of the entire toaster (all packages) on a P-II-266 takes about 10 minutes. Closer to 5 minutes on a P4. The script pauses and lets you bail just before beginning the actual update process where it stops qmail, does a single 'rpm -Uvh' command on all binary packages at once, then restores and starts qmail. This means you can run it during normal operation, and get most of the work out of the way ahead of time. Simply start the script, it'll let you select that packages you want to upgrade (usually select them all), download the source packages, build the sandbox, and then build the binary rpms in the sandbox, all while your toaster runs merrily along. You'll also discover at this point if you have some dependency or other issues to resolve, all while the existing toaster runs untouched. After building the binary rpms, it backs up your present configuration files before asking if you want to quit or actually do the update, at which point you can simply quite. Then, when you're ready do the upgrade (binary rpms are in place and ready to roll), you simply rerun the script. You'll need to answer the questions again as to which packages to install, but it remembers everything else that was already done, the downloads, builds, the works. You'll see the script running, and it tells you that it's already done this and that. You'll rapidly come to the point where you quit previously, and you simply proceed to do the upgrade. It's really quite simple. Any questions? I have one. What toaster version will you be upgrading from? I know that Andrew (at least) has upgraded from 1.0 using the scripts. He had a couple issues, most of which have been integrated into the new (0.2 about to be released) scripts. Very strange.. all did work well.. and i dont get any error in my logs..
