Subject: [QUAD-L] Runtime error

Hey everybody-

I've been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 since August 2006. About
a week and a half ago a message started popping up at random, causing dragon
to not hear me. It's happening more often now and it is a major
inconvenience and hassle. This is one of the few sites I can go to now
without it happening. I get the error message that the application caused
the runtime error to terminate it in an unusual way. I tried going to
Nuance's website for technical support, but the runtime error pops up when I
go to it. It's frustrating. Has anyone else had this problem?. Does
anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks for your help!-

[QUAD-L] New Doc

2007-11-30 Thread Greg
I want to change my Primary Care Doc. Mine just doesn't understand my
issues. He has always been helpful, as in doing what I asked, but just
didn't take my AD seriously enough for me. I have been using a Dr Alcott at
St Joseph, in Phoenix as a Specialist a few times. I'll ask her next week.
But who would you recommend in the Phx area? My insurance needs them to be a
Primary Care or Internal Medicine. Pacific Care, Secure Horizon. I'd like my
docs to be connected better.

The hospital gave me strong antibiotic that are killing my stomach, causing
cramps, etc., and more Dysreflexia. I'd like to get shots or IV antibiotics.
My Primary wouldn't change the orders. I understand since he didn't really
get much info from the hospital as to why I'm getting them. But I can tell
he doesn't like how much paperwork I am.

Thx, Greg

[QUAD-L] Mattresses_getting them quick before your body reacts

2007-11-30 Thread Lori Michaelson
I don't know why the subject was not changed so I changed it. Anyway,
because of what John said about his air mattress going at the most
inopportune time... THAT is precisely why I keep one or two of those waffle
air mattresses on hand! They can easily be found at www.ehob.com and always
have a brand-new one on hand no matter what the case.

Right now, my alternating air mattress is electric for the airflow but if
the electric goes out overnight... I am in just as much comfort and setting
my body up for trouble. The waffle air mattresses are not electric but they
come with a pump to put in the right amount of air. They have* never
ever*caused me any red marks or pressure points.

Perhaps you were not a Boy Scout? LOL. Be Prepared! And I was no Boy
Scout! But that is my motto after all the problems I have had. Live and
learn, live and learn.

The air mattress I had died, well, the motor did. I went and bought a
twin innerspring which was all I could afford. It was last Saturday and a
holiday weekend meaning very few places were open and my selection was very
small. I got a couple foam toppers, total waste. They don't do anything at
all. I have a small flat pyramid of blankets and pillows placed
strategically on the mattress. After a few minutes I feel as if I'm on
cement. It is way too hard to lay on either hip. My spine is very misaligned
and it just gets worse as time goes on. I had a dream I was being run over
on a highway and woke up to find my pulse was making my low back and left
hip hurt in short sharp spikes of pain. I've been back to using marijuana
and tylenol pm's with my hydrocodone to get to sleep but it rarely lasts 2
hours. Doctors have written prescriptions. A wound care doctor and my
regular doctor but medicare and medicaid are not responding to the DME or
the doctors. I keep rearranging pillows because I'm anything but straight
and this thing is flat. Medicare has bought me a mattress once in 32 years
and they have never paid for a bed. I spent about 1.5 hours on hold with a
lady that refused to give me her name earlier today and I was being really
nice to her. Needless to say, the hold finally went off and I was
disconnected. My brother in law got an old waffle type alternating pressure
pad working but it died last night and I don't think it's fixable. It wasn't
helping anyway. If anyone has any ideas, I would try anything.
Thank you for your interest. Everyone that sees it can't believe it.
 Thanks for caring,
 john

It is no wonder this list is so quiet,, everyone has gotten sick! It
isn't easy to write on here when you get depressed with UTI's, migrating
syrinxi (ok, What is the plural?) and the anti biotic treatments?
I'm going for some pity here, I've been sleeping on a mattress that is
about the most pain full damn thing. I haven't slept more than 2 hours in a
month now. (If I seem mean I appologize to the point where, Im so tired.)

God Bless ya'll, Hope you feel better.

Sure hope things get better for you Greg, Yes our Quad body's can be hard
to figure out at times, especially with AD and not always knowing the Cause.
I suffer a lot from a syrinx that has been causing me increased pain and
problems with my entire left shoulder and arm., I'm hoping it don't continue
to get worse. Hang in thereDan H. c-6 10.5 years post

I was in the ER/Hospital for 4 days a month ago, just very sick, shaky,

Never really felt good since then.
But then a month later, I was into the ER again. This time admitted for 3
days. Still not sure exactly what the cause was. While just ending my
 B-Program, I got a very bad headache, not fun… BPresure was 170/1??.
Obviously AD, but never had it that bad before.
Many tests, but no clear cause. This time I went to the big city hospital
( Phoenix , St Joseph 's rather than the local one) much better care for
 sure.

 Not been a good month,
 Greg

Re: [QUAD-L] oh no not another with a syrinx

2007-11-30 Thread alanh77

Like John Ron ... they summed it up pretty well! I did have surgery
but only because I could not take the abdominal pain and hellacious
full-body spasms. I was diagnosed formally in 1994, did six months of
research because at that time I had not even heard of this condition...
and then got three different opinions from three different neurosurgeons.
At that time... none of them were really apathetic towards surgery but
they weren't pushy either.

Even at the best hospitals like Craig Hospital in Denver [Englewood
actually] ... they will tell you that there is only a 50-50 chance of
relief. Also... the shunts that are put into drain the syrinx into a
body cavity usually do not last more than three years or so. Having a
syrinx (collection of natural cerebral spinal fluid) forming within the
spinal cord makes paralysis a piece of cake for most of us. But I would
not choose surgery unless you are losing movement. I was desperate
because of the pain and spasms but my first surgery nearly killed me
because of the arrogant surgeon and I had to have it redone (another
nightmare that almost killed me). I now will not let even the best of
surgeons get near my spinal cord unless I am on my last life.

The current preferred surgical treatment of syringomyelia is untethering
the cord and collapsing the syrinx, not shunting (because, as you said,
they get blocked.) Check threads on this in the CareCure forums
(sciwire.com.)
