[QUAD-L] Mattress
I have had the same mattress on my hospital bed for 30 years or more so it's pretty much worn out. I called my medical supplier to order a new one - we'll see! Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] bowell program components
I had a dream years ago while on morphine. I was sitting on a motorized commode chair, wheeling down a garden. My gut was distended and when I looked, on the upper right side I had a gardenhose attachment to my large intestine. When the water turned on I'd drive along fertilizing the garden until my gut returned to normal size. . I did a little checking and I may be wrong but I think that is almost how the P.I.E. system works except, no garden hose or motorized commode chair and it only empties the colon. When I woke up, I had a phenomonal involuntary movement in the bed. (Why do they call it involuntary when the truth is, I'm glad its out?) john - Original Message From: RONALD L PRACHT [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Friday, December 7, 2007 1:53:12 AM Subject: [QUAD-L] bowell program components Well.. I do my bowell routine every other morning. I use majic bullets , sometimes 2 if its goin slow. The night b4 a routine I start by taking a lil bisacodyl pill, a couple majic cleanse capsules. Then I try to drink a beer, eat a yougurt and eat a small bowell of raisan bran sometimes with prunes. I drink alot of water and fluids during the day and eat plain cherios most mornings. I do a couple hours of excercise at least 3 times a week maybe more if weather allows. I think many folks have trouble because they dont do enough digital stimulationif your not going in 20 mins you may need stimulation to break it loose. Also sit on the bowell chair long enough. Another thing you have to consider is you dont want your stool to loose..or too hard. Thats a struggle every quad goes through. I always thought that with all the smart people out there we could come up with a better method of evacuating bowells for paralyzed individuals. I thought one time hell it would be nice to have some kind of a valve or sureproof way to avoid accidents. Maybe an electronic implant to at least tell you how full you are or even better some sort of stimulation electrodes to get things going. Ive heard of some sort of flushing system you can do.I think Dave does something like that. Too me Im tired of hearing about b.s. about stem cell and all that..I want to hear about better methods to live with the injury. I do my BP every three days. I take bisacodyl tablet(10 mg) the night before and do some stimulation the next morning. I use a fleet enema bottle filled with worm water for stimulation. It is inserted into the rectum ,just like the fleet enema. _ From: John S. I feel your pain Ron. I wish I could come up with a better method to evacuate my bowels. This has been one of the biggest problems I have had over the last seven months. I thought I had everything under control and then while my ex-wife (my Frau) was visiting me my bowels fouled up again. I went in to see the doctor and after a couple of visits he finally looked back at my last colonoscopy and discovered I have diverticulitis. I have tried to adapt my diet to compensate for that problem and regulated my probiotics, but it seemed like if I get too much tomato products in my system it caused me problems. I am grateful the pain has diminished significantly over the last four weeks and I am optimistic this will continue if I try my best to stay on a decent diet. Re: [QUAD-L] Mattress
i have been a quad for a mere 16 years and i have a cal king size motionless water bed. basically its a regular box spring with a foam bucket that holds 9 individual tubes of water covered with a foam cap. i have only had 1 small pressure soar from my cushion wearing out. i have always enjoyed the fact my bedroom doesn't look clinical with something like a hospital bed. i also like having a 2 person bed for the times in life Ive had a girlfriend and the rest of the time my dog uses the other side. the foam cap on my bed is wearing out a bit and I'm thinking about my next bed. i still want a king size but not sure what type. memory foam, posturepedic, or maybe air. I'm curious do most of you use a medical type bed or a regular bed and which types or brands of both kinds? thanks, donald Dan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have had the same mattress on my hospital bed for 30 years or more so it's pretty much worn out. Medical. My bedroom looks like a medical nightmare. I wish I could go to a normal bed, but it would be too hard on my PCA's. Not to mention that I love the freedom to be able to move my head up and down with the use of my ECU. I have come up with a way to take my medication in the morning by raising my head up and pulling down a film container which has my medication in it. I just don't want to lose my independence. I definitely would like to have a bed someone could lay on with me.
