Re: [QUAD-L] tat- the price we pay for freedom...

2008-04-25 Thread John S.
I just wanna say this to get it out of the way. The folks on the news and our
fearless leader don't seem to understand that America has been twisted into
something so it is more democracy-like, but it is not and was never meant to be
a democracy. It is a representative republic. Democracies are weak and pathetic
forms of government.
It was intended that the people elect their representative and that person, in
turn, choose an elector to represent us in the electoral college. The reason
for this is simple, the entire nation shouldn't be ruled by decisions made by a
few large states.
Representatives at state levels would elect Senators. There would be no such
thing as lifetime representatives in any government positions except judges and
any other positions that are deemed to important to be politicized. (HAH!)
The place where individuals were suppose to be able to effect politics was in
local party meetings. (Again HAH!)
Our forefathers were hopelessly trusting souls. What we have today is a
bastardized system that makes everything America ever stood for look like an
item on the auction block. We have become victims of our own success and poor
judgment.
Ethanol fuel,, a brilliant idea, but a politician said it must be made from
corn. We are seeing the problem with that idea. Only a politician would think
fuel should be drinkable. (ethanol can be made from garbage but America makes
it from the one ingredient that is also the main source of starch for a third
of the worlds population..how effing arrogant can we get?)
Do we have a punishment for causing mass starvation? No. We the people have
absolutely no recourse.

I'd like to see the people chose the president, not the judges. I know it's
not realistic, but it would be nice to see someone win by the popular vote.
Whats this crap with the super delegates that Hilary and Obama want to appeal
to? Why do we show up if they end up chosing the candidate against McCain? I
get so frustrated with the whole thing. I thought this was supposed to be a
democracy.

People say I’m paranoid but I believe regardless of votes, that the Republican
party will take the election by fraud. Remember the Florida scandal with Vice
President Gore? It was within weeks that Bush bought all states digital voting
machines with no paper trail. Paranoid no, but a quadnoid, yes.

We have had worthy independent run in the past but what ends up happening is
they end up taking votes and affecting which democrat or republican is running.

I wish people took the independs seriously because they usually come in with

It would help if the media actually asked important questions but it's the
s.o.s!
We don't really know any details of how any candidate is going to fix Health,
Economy, Gas prices, and the housing crisis.
I don't know what to do, I mean you got McCain who has 1 story Hillary is
making up stories and Obama doesn't really have any.
I know I don't want McCain.
I know I don't want Hillary.
I like Obama but I liked Bush when he first ran and that was mistake I wish I

I wish we could get a super independent also Tim but I really think the
majority of people don't care and just vote with the flock.

While I agree with you on the ethanol, I disagree with some of what you said
about the democracy. You are correct that the founding fathers set up our
system to be a representative republic, but that was long before the
electorate was comprised of mostly literate individuals.

The electoral College was set up to avoid giving too much power to a few
states, but right now it effectively does that anyway. All you have to do
is look at how some past presidential campaigns have specifically targeted
only 10 or 11 critical states in order to get elected. I believe, but am
not positive, that JFK follow this principle.

I thought the 2000 election was a travesty, but I really couldn't complain
about 2004. The majority of the people spoke and that's what we've had to
live with. No, it's not been fun, but that's what 51% of our people wanted.

Just my opinion; I could be wrong.

Somebody in our government needs to make a public announcement that we do
not have a shortage of rice in this country. The recent media coverage has
created a bit of a panic and now Rice is flying off the shelves -- not to
mention that some stores are elevating the price to take advantage of the
hysteria. BJ's (a store like Sam's Club) was completely sold out this
afternoon.

According to the president of the rice growers Association, the silos are
full and there is no shortage here. We really need leadership, and not
tomorrow.

With my low air loss mattress I don't have to be turned on my side. It
allows me to lie on my back except when I am doing my bowel procedure. I
used to have a lateral rotational mattress which also gave me the
opportunity to lie on my back.

I purchased one of those alternating pressure overlays and it worked
effectively, but they tend to leak pretty easily. I use them when I go to
the hospital. They are inexpensive and effective, but like I said they're
not very durable.

BTW, I also use sheepskin to avoid the shearing which hospital sheets can
cause.

But, there is a shortage in acres planted of rice. This year farmers are
growing corn and soy beans for the fuel. The price of gas didn't go up during
the last six weeks. The value of the dollar dropped. Can you say, INFLATION.
You may wonder why this obscene tax was levied on those with fixed incomes? Why
has there been no attempt to cut spending of military dollars in parts of the
world that our military isn't even in? Why has welfare tripled this year. Not
welfare for people, but welfare for corporations. We deposit billions of
dollars into numbered swiss bank accounts and it comes under foreign aid.
Will anyone ask these questions at a presidential debate?
