With my low air loss mattress I don't have to be turned on my side. It
allows me to lie on my back except when I am doing my bowel procedure. I
used to have a lateral rotational mattress which also gave me the
opportunity to lie on my back.

I purchased one of those alternating pressure overlays and it worked
effectively, but they tend to leak pretty easily. I use them when I go to
the hospital. They are inexpensive and effective, but like I said they're
not very durable.

BTW, I also use sheepskin to avoid the shearing which hospital sheets can
cause.
