With my low air loss mattress I don't have to be turned on my side. It allows me to lie on my back except when I am doing my bowel procedure. I used to have a lateral rotational mattress which also gave me the opportunity to lie on my back.
I purchased one of those alternating pressure overlays and it worked effectively, but they tend to leak pretty easily. I use them when I go to the hospital. They are inexpensive and effective, but like I said they're not very durable. BTW, I also use sheepskin to avoid the shearing which hospital sheets can cause. Quadius
