[QUAD-L] Fake Jobs and Other Scams

2009-03-27 Thread wheelchair
Great Advice Dan! I saw a recent developing scam just last week from a
company called CBI in Australia.
The letter is innocent and advising its receiver that they are in a contest
to add the sum of 20 + 5 with various answers. They want your signature.
The letter goes back to Singapore. No one has won a penny yet and they
now
have your personal signature.

Best Wishes

Re: [QUAD-L] Super pubic vs foley or cathing

2009-03-27 Thread Quadius
That's the response most doctors would give. I have had one tell me that he
would have done a sphincterotomy if I was still a new entry, but since I
have been in this chair for 15 years next week, there is no sense in fixing
something that is not broken.

about a super pubic at that time as I have at other times during the 12 year
and the answer was if its not broke don't fix it.

My 22 year old son, who became a quad about 6 months ago, has had numerous
issues since initial hospitalization. The most recurring is UTI and some
bladder infections. He was in a hospital and rehab for 3-1/2 months
total. He had a foley for 2 months initially. After the 2
months, cathing began every 4 hours. About a month after cathing began he
started to urinate between caths. He complained of the mess and they put a
Texas catheter on him and still cathed every 4 hours. After about 3 weeks
of being at home (I was cathing and dealing with the Texas catheter) his
penis became quite raw.About 3 times more urine coming out of him was
going into the catheter bag as opposed to cathing. I asked that a foley be
put in due to all this. A few people have told us a super pubic will cause
a lot less UTI's and much less invasive on the body. Please share your
views on a super pubic versus a foley or cathing.

 Many thanks for any replies!

Re: [QUAD-L] Sore on tail bone

2009-03-27 Thread Quadius
The only thing I can tell you is to get off your tail bone. Talk to the VA
and see if it's possible for you to get a low air loss mattress. I had a
friend of mine who was able to get one from them, but every VA is different.

If you have problems like I do, you need to make sure you're taking
something to loosen the secretions in your chest. Talk to your doctor about
the generic form of guaifenesin. It works wonders for me, but you have to
drink quite a bit of fluid.

Take care and let me know if there's anything I can do to help. I might be
able ask some of my acquaintances here about your situation.

I almost never have skin issues. It is Sat morning no VA sci unit open and

I know, being a quad for almost 12 years I should know, but really, I just
don't have skin issues and I don't want to be on my stomach for 6 weeks.

Re: [QUAD-L] Sore on tail bone

2009-03-27 Thread John S.
!st, you must get off that spot. Rolling or propping somehow untill you can get
a low air loss mattress. While your off of it you may want to start with some
triple anti-biotic ointment. If the skin is not open, you can go to
hydrocortizone creme. Do not sit on Underpads!
I'd mention tripsin to your doctor if the wound is clean.
Do not use hydrogen peroxide on the wound. If you can stand getting on your
side, place a damp gauze patch on it and let it dry. You can speed drying by
using a small fan. (simple wet to dry treatment)
If you decide to try this, be sure to boil the water and let it cool.
You might be able to reduce your breathing problem with proventil.
I do wish you luck. Weekends are hard for me to get help too.
Fortunately, everyone has a cam on their phone so, you can get a picture and
see what your dealing with.
