[QUAD-L] Wheelchair basketball

2010-04-01 Thread Nancy P
I'm working with the Christopher Dana Reeve Foundation, and with both the
Final Four and National Wheelchair Basketball Association championships coming
up, we'd like to reach out to wheelchair athletes with a resource and a request.

We have a search function so you can find resources -- for sports and
recreation, but also other areas -- by zip code.

If you play wheelchair basketball (or any sport, really), we'd like to hear
about your team and your experiences.  If you're trying to build a team or find
new players, send us your recruitment information and we'll post it to our
Daily Dose blog.  You have to be a member of our Paralysis Community to post,
but it only takes a minute.

If you're already a member, here's a link right to Rob's blog post -- leave a
comment and tell us about the sports you do.

Thanks for sharing.

Does that hightop roof have a brow 10 inches high too? Permobile makes
a nice big and heavy chair. Maybe too heavy for a single arm lift like the
Vangater... unless the chair is empty.
The UVL might be a better application.. maybe.

Best Wishes

Can anyone share with me which kind of lift they preferred in a hightop
van with a Permobile chair that is quite long.. I have always had clear way
and a salesman suggested vangator. Just wanting suggestions on which of the
many kinds work best for you. I seem to always have problems with the lip
not working correctly on two different kinds I have had, I think the other
kind I used at first was a braun.

Thank you for your input.

Dana

[QUAD-L] Happy Easter All!

2010-04-01 Thread Thomas E. Cusack
Hello!
Normally one would receive a cute card with a bunny on the front or some
inspitational card with all sorts of flowery language.  I'm past sending out
bunnies or those inspirational type cards so in pure plain English, I'd like to
wish you and yours a Happy, Happy Easter.
Let's all hope that we all enjoy the gathered company we will be with and thank
our troops for their continual support. Hey, chocolate and jelly beans aren't
bad either!  God Bless!

[QUAD-L] *clicking* chairs WHY - WHY - WHY???????????

2010-04-01 Thread Bobbie299
Anybody,
I have a 41/2 year old storm series Action power chair. When I
ordered it, the very FIRST thing I asked was Which chair can I order won't
click
every time I move?
Question; can I get my repair chair people to turn off this clicking? I
understand the clicking has something to do with a magnet so the chair
won't go backwards when I'm going forward, or something like that. Am I right?

[QUAD-L] bad shoulder pain

2010-04-01 Thread Bobbie299
I have osteoarthritis (arthritis in my shoulder) and chronic tendentious in
my shoulder. I saw an orthopedist today and all he did was write me two
RX's for PT, OT and pain management.
I can't put a coat or sweater any more as of mid-February or brush the
back of my hair.
Anybody else have anything like this? Bobbie

Let me hope to clarify the action if I can. The magnet brake only clicks
between actions as when you take you hand off the joystick or stop to
reverse the chair. You are NOT suppose to have a rotation clicking sound.
You
may have a loose wheel nut or an undersized keyway which is the little
sliver of metal the interlocks the axle with the wheel.
I hope this helps.
Best Wishes
