[QUAD-L] AD

2014-02-10 Thread nichole rohling
Just curious if anyone has had a bad case of AD and then experience
hypersensitivity that causes AD more often. I had a bad case on Feb 1 and
now just putting the sling under me, unbuttoning my pants, coughing, taking
my shoes off, pulling wedge out from under my feet causes my blood pressure
to sky rocket.

I've been taking a lortab and clonidine an hour before my aid gets here but
I'm still getting AD (this morning all I did was move my arm to get my water
and it made me have a throbbing headache)

I'm so frustratedwent to dr today and they're putting me on a high blood
pressure medicine (beta-blocker) because they think my headaches are causing
the high blood pressureif that were the cause then shouldn't we be
treating the headache and not the symptom...I so wish I lived close to a SCI
hospital.

no pressure sores but I have hemorrhoids and believe that is what triggered it
initially. I’m good once I’m up in my chair. Yes, headaches come on very
quickly and go away fairly quick. Thank you for the prayers…….it is scaring me!
Went to ER yesterday evening but by the time I got there my blood pressure was
fine…….wasted trip!

My primary physician mentioned that this might be an alternative for me. Trying
to find something I can use to control spasms. They think my medication for
bladder spasms might be causing spikes in my blood pressure. I'm not sure
anymore. I have ceased taking the medication most of the time and I'm still
spiking whenever I am in bed, but having normal blood pressure any other time.

Any time the catheter moves it triggers dysreflexia, so I keep it taped down.
Draining the collection bag also triggers a very short episode of
dysreflexia, so I wonder if something is going on inside the bladder. I
started using the duette catheter, so far it hasn't made any difference.

The only pain killer I've tried is aleve, unfortunately it hasn't helped.

The constant dysreflexia goes away after a couple of days following changing
the catheter. Then it only hits during transfers, or draining the bag.

You might also have a problem with bladder atrophy. Mine was pretty severe
and it would happen at least once or twice a day that the catheter would
stop draining because the bladder had wrapped around the catheter.

Yes. Ended up having an urostomy procedure done. I still have some pain, but I
don't have the bouts with AD like I used to.
My recovery was pretty long and difficult, but all in all for me it was the
only option other than continuing on with dysreflexia and other problems.

these doctors are guessing at best. they need to read about the definition of
autonomic dysreflexia and maybe they could begin to comprehend. in any case
nurse you hemmroids and get them well. keep emergency blood pressure meds close
in case of a spike, but don't get your body all messed up by taking them
everyday. high blood pressure isn't your problem, the prob is whats triggering
the dysreflexia.
