[QUAD-L] wheelchairs (what's good and what's bad)?
Hello everybody,I know I dont commune with you guys very often, mostly because my schoolwork is very demanding and I find that the discussion group combined with school is overwhelming. But, I have a question for you all. Im supposed to be getting a new wheelchair and I was wondering if switching from an Invacare would be appropriate. Currently I had an Invacare Rangers x storm series. Different people have suggested that I get either a quickie or a permobile. I just dont know which way to go. I havent had any trouble with my Invacare, but if there is a better power chair out there please let me know. Nyree

Re: [QUAD-L] Re: BODY CHANGING 6 YRS POST
Nicole,I believe in my heart that no doctor can accurately predict when your body is going to change, but I do know what you are going through. Well, not exactly, but in a roundabout way. This past August was my six-year anniversary and I have suddenly gained a lot of weight. I also did go through a period where I was having frequent accidents and my spasms have increased severely. And this was all before my sixth anniversary. All you can do is take it one day at a time and go with the flow because I believe everybodys body responds differently.Nyree- Original Message - From: Nichole Rohling To: QUADLIST ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, December 13, 2004 1:02 PM Subject: [QUAD-L] Re: BODY CHANGING 6 YRS POST I UNDERSTAND. I JUST THOUGHT THAT I HAD READ SOMEWHERE THAT YOUR BODY SHOULD BE ADJUSTED AT 5 YRS POST AN MINE HAS NOW GONE HAYWIRE. I KNOW I'VE BEEN REALLY FORTUNATE SO MAYBE IT'S JUST MY TURN. Reason? I could give you the right answer... and you might accept it. Or I could offer you the wrong answer and if it appears to satisfy you could further add to your problems so.I'm playing it safe and saying that without your charts... its a crap shoot at best... for anyone. Including you.I'm sure that you've talked with your doctor who is familiar with your files and case history. What did they say or recommend?Since your personal history may differ from others, offering you insights could be counterproductive. I'm not going to tell you to stop eating or anything other that might be drastic. We just don't have enough info.WIn a message dated 12/12/04 7:27:51 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I WAS ROLLING RIGHT ALONG AND THEN IN JUNE AT 6 YEARS POST - WHAM! Re: [QUAD-L] wheelchairs (what's good and what's bad)?
So far I have tried a permobile and an Invacare storm. I like both of them, but my vendor told me that for permobiles are sometimes not as reliable as Invacare. He said that Invacares are the leaders in power wheelchairs. According to him permobile and quickie are still playing catch-up. Its not that I dont trust him; I just want a more influential point of view and they figured a little input from all of you guys would help me out. For all I know he could be getting a kickback from Invacare.Nyree - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 15, 2004 2:38 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] wheelchairs (what's good and what's bad)? Manufacturers change with each production year. So do their products which includes wheelchairs. Someone may design a cheaper part on a successful production chair and mess up a beautiful thing. So remember that only Big Mac's stay the same from one side of the country to the other. Wheelchairs vary. You could try an abdominal binder. If you like. Nyree - Original Message - From: Nichole Rohling To: QUADLIST ; B. I did experience problems with my catheter and occasionally still have problems with it clogging up for some unknown reason. Going five years without a bowel incident is pretty darn good. I could say that I went a long also, but every incident I have had has usually been the result of my bowel regimen not being completed properly. Over the last few years I have noticed that despite being only a couple of pounds heavier I am having more and more difficulty trying to prevent (what I now believe to be the inevitable) Quad gut. Just when I think I have about everything figured out, something changes and I am learning all over again. On the brighter side, maybe this prevents boredom.
