Its a little different design than the one I am used to, the original has a
pyramidal design that creates a totally eradic bounce and the rubber is heavy
duty, enough to withstand the abuse of a German Sheperd chomping on it, but
this is the same company, I wonder if they still have the original models.

I have to agree with Ron. I was a K-9 Officer making about 40 a year when I
went down. Eventually all contact with profession faded, not because of me,
but because they lost interest. I think still having the connection and being
able to attend to yourself would be nice options.

veteran officer when he was injured ..so he was probally bringing in 40
grand or so before injury.75 percent of that isnt bad.

I think he should keep his position at the station as volunteer only. This
may sound harsh but actually if he was under volunteer status then when he
was ill, had a pressure sore or couldnt get an attendant that day it
 wouldnt be a big deal.

As John mentioned which I agree on is we are all going through these same
issues, and some of us would love to be able to receive 75 percent of a 40
grand salary to live on. I have much empathy for the mans situation, but hes
not anyone special and this sort of things goes on everyday.

This is the latest news I found.
Sounds like he might make a full recovery but I wish they would take this
incident and use it to promote the fact that we still need a cure for sci!

On Tuesday, everything changed as she watched her son move his limbs and
feel her touch when he was partially awakened from a sedated state.

Based on our experience, the fact he's moving so well, so early after such
a catastrophic injury means he will walk again, said Dr. Barth Green,
chairman of the department of neurological surgery at the University of
Miami school of medicine. It's totally spectacular, totally unexpected.

Emotionally drained yet genuinely upbeat, Dugas let out a big laugh in
discussing how difficult the last four days have been.

Happy, said Dugas, who joined her son at his bedside at Buffalo's Millard
Fillmore Gates Hospital on Monday. I'm extremely happy. I'm grateful.

Everett sustained the injury Sunday after ducking his head while tackling
the HYPERLINK
http://www.nfl.com/teams/denverbroncos/profile?team=DENDenver Broncos'
HYPERLINK
http://www.nfl.com/players/domenikhixon/profile?id=HIX462619Domenik Hixon
during the second-half kickoff of the Bills' season opener. He dropped
face-first to the ground after his helmet hit Hixon high on the left
shoulder and side of the helmet.

It's feasible, but it's not 100 percent predictable at this time ... he
could lead a normal life, said Green, who added he has been consulting with
doctors in Buffalo since Everett was injured.

In a report Tuesday evening, Buffalo's WIVB-TV quoted Bills orthopedic
surgeon Dr. Andrew Cappuccino as saying: We may be witnessing a minor
miracle.

Dugas is certain.

We're going to take it slow getting him up on his feet, but we hope to see
him walk out of here, she said. He has a strong will and determination. I
tell you, he's not going to settle for this. You're all going to see a
miracle.

I can't help but be jealous!

I wish him well and truely hope he realizes how lucky he is and not cop the
attitude that hard work will cure all!

I think the doctors are being generous and very optimistic. And that is
good too.
However, doctors like firemen, will say the fire is Struck but will stick
around for
awhile to see if their are any hotspots.
I truly wish the best for Mr. Everett and hope for a complete recovery for
him. I also hope that he
is able to return to football and have a successful career.

I'd wait 30 days before passing on too much hope. Granted its going to be
difficult, but not impossible.
Best Wishes

He went there last year and is doing better but no miraculous cure by no means
but it did help.
He used to have to use a peach tree but now is capable of a joystick so that
does say a lot.

Dear Buc,
Nobody has succesfully walked from any surgery or treatment from China or
anywhere else. No faith healer has produced an honest miracle with a SCI. Right
now most of us are hoping stem cells may unlock some spinal injuries but China
is the only nation doing anything with stem cells and while they are leaping
ahead of us, I don't know of anyone regaining significant function. China
simply hasn't got the technological capabilities America has. Without sounding
political, many of us are awaiting Mr Bush's exit from office so that we can at
least see if theres hope to repair nerve tissues with stem cells.
Someone from this list went to China about a year or so ago. I can't find the
thread to tell you who it was or what the results were. I'm hoping someone else
will read this and fill in the blanks.
I really do have brain damage. I'm not this stupid..or maybe I am.

Oh Dave,

I have been injured 10 plus years and and still trying to find my way. My
biggest obstacle was my health, from pneumonia, to bladder infections and
pressure sores. I struggled through school but jobs are hard to come by.
Sometimes I feel myself a failure at not having progressed or achieved as much
as I want or expected. How does one cope when not having the excuse of being
newly injured?

Sometimes my legs start jumping and once jumped onto the gas peddle. I

I love the analogy Ron. As for Tim's accomplishments, I agree they are
quite considerable. Mine, getting a B.A. in history, pale in comparison.
After going through my final seminar class, I do getting a postgraduate
degree in history was not in the cards for me. I am considering doing some
sort of journalism or writing classes, but I really don't think I need to be
spending too much more time in school.

I just need to find a way to make a few more bucks and keep myself busy at
the same time.

Hey Shelly,

Welcome to the q-list, I know this is a great group to join but the
initiation just sux!

It's funny how as soon as we're unable to walk others find the need to run
or give us our walking papers!

Seriously there are some great people here with an arsenal of knowledge.

Hi everyone~
Sure, This is long overdue. I did not think there were any females who
belonged to this site! Seemed to be more males (not that there is anything
wrong with that!!)
Ten months ago while having a seizure I fell (about 3 feet) into my garden.
Instantly I was aware of the lack of feeling from my chest down. This will
give you an idea of my married life... I was more concerned that my
neighbor found my keys and locked up my house before I was loaded onto the
ambulance. Long story short, I was flown to Hershey Medical Center. Was
there 3 months and was discharged. My husband could not cope with the
role reversal. As a result I am now living with my mother and going
through a nasty divorce. Regardless I am very focused on what is important
right now, therapy and recovery.

Would you guys tell me a little about yourself?

Hey All

It's been about a year or so since my last post. Since then I've started
going to college--majoring in psychology. What I plan to do is get my
Master's in Occupational Therapy.

I started a Student Organization along with my fellow college crips. We're
called the SWAA--Students With Alternative Abilities. Our main purpose is
to increase accessibility on campus. Another thing we want to do is start
creating awareness about disabilities. We want to show informative
documentaries about disabilities. SCI, Polio, MS, etc. Does anyone have
any documentary recommendations?

[QUAD-L] Doctoral Research

2007-01-23 Thread Timothy Cox
My name is Timothy Cox and I am a SCI survivor. I am currently a Doctoral
Candidate completing my dissertation at the California School of Professional
Psychology. I am being supervised by Siobhan O'toole Ph.D.

My dissertation is directly related to how SCI survivors cope after their
injury. My dissertation consist of an online survey through (survey monkey)
that is anonymous and the results maintain no identifying information from the
individuals that complete it. It takes about 20 min to complete.

The de-identified results will be kept secure and used only for the purposes of
my research, which will hopefully benefit and/or affect the curriculum for
rehabilitation centers and SCI survivors and their families.

I am asking for your assistance in completing this survey, The link below
provides access to the survey as well as contact information for the
participants should they have concerns.
