a local DME and to make a long story short, they just replaced my mattress. I
sort of stalled you cause I wasn't sure it wasn't more of their BS. I still can

Dear Ray,

Pardon me if I am writing to the wrong Ray. But are you the Ray that just recently had trouble getting rid of a Pseudomonas-caused bladder infection and were/are going to the hospital daily to receive IV antibiotics?

If so, have you finished your 10-day IV antibiotics routine yet? And, if so, has your most recent urine culture come back negative?

Quad belly or Quad guthas hardly anything to do with diet. It is the result of nonactive stomach muscles not able to hold firmly your stomach, intestines, and other inner organs. Your stomach becomes very pronounced when sitting in the chair because the weight of your upper torso pushing down on your muscle less stomach causing your midsection to expand.

Hi Stacy, i'll tell you what helps me with my parking, I picked up two small orange cones at home depot and carry them in my van and when I go anywhere I take up two spots the one for my van then i'll roll out and set the cones up at thefront of the spot next to me so no one pulls next to my van so far no problems and the cones are only couple bucks and really light so give it a shot see how it works. I've been going to the wound care center at the hospital where the parking is crzy bad. I often take two spots if I can find them or one way on the end and have gotten blocked in 3 times in two weeks. It sucks to ask strangers to back my van out for me. I left not nice letters on their cars but like its going to make a difference. I just now keep tape in my car leaving a note to please not block me in.

To Whom it may concern,

I drive a van with handicapped plates and a ramp which unloads from the right side of my vehicle. This ramp requires about eight feet of space on that side to allow room for me to maneuver my electric wheelchair in and out of my van. I'm relatively independent in my travels until someone parks beside me and blocks access to my ramp. I usually find all designated handicapped spots up front taken whenever I go anywhere and I don't really mind rolling in from the far end of the parking lot. I park crooked way out at the end to m!
ake sure no one can block me out and I find that usually works, although not always.

I'm thinking the handicapped license plates or the hand controls easily viewable through the window would give your parking lot attendants a clue that I need extra room to enter and exit my vehicle. If those clues don't help, then the missing driver's seat or the ramp up against the sliding door might help them figure out I need extra room.

I find it admirable you are vigorously policing your lots for violations but if you could sprinkle a little common sense in with your enthusiasm, possibly those of us who need the extra room can take two spots out at the end of your lot where few people park anyway without getting cited with a violation.

Perhaps you could mark off a few extra wide spots way out at the end of your lots for those of us who need extra room? The extra space will need a bright yellow post that will physically block someone from parking there as there are those who park on yellow hashed areas anyway because "they just don't need the extra room." (yes, that really happens too.)

Dave O'Connell

My Mom found the owner of the car under a hair dryer, OK, so her hairdresser backed the car so I could get up the ramp THEN moved it backto the EXACT spotand block me again. I had to explain to the hairdresser to "just leave the car backed up enough for me to go up and down the ramp" Duhh

Stupid question here but when you say you're c5-c6, is that where your fractures were? or is that your level of function? For example, I broke c6-c7, but my level of function is at c7-t1 (I guess that's where the spinal cord got severed.).One thing that I think makes a big difference in how someone is able to transfer, is the length of their arms :S I've seen quads get up off the floor and back into their chairs by themselves, and have been just amazed. But, those that I've seen manage to do that, always seem to have LONG arms. I am able to do all my transfers by myself, except there is no way I can get off the floor back into my chair if I happen to fall.WinAt 02:30 PM 4/1/2006, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Littlequad, I do my own transfers to bed to chair from chair to !

As a quad with minimum triceps, I have been working on them steady for a year. My new PT./OT's said that since I have some Tricep usage after SCI, trace amount, that if I work on building them up I should succeed.
Those with Triceps, do you do any exercises or just constant usage?

Ray -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: quad-list@eskimo.comSent: Wed, 2 Nov 2005 15:57:45 ESTSubject: [QUAD-L] Need help about my rehab shower commode chair

I have a Guardian rehab commode shower chair made by Sunrise Medical---same company that makes Quickie. Mine is 8 years old and front caster wheels are ok but the part where the fork goes into the holder or hinge has become very wobbly and dangerous---I tried to get my insurance to help fix it or get me a new one but they refused, saying they never cover any of those now. Well the company that repairs all my chairs told me it's an older model and don't want to try and get parts for it.( National Seating and Mobility.) I called Sunrise but the lady there said I could probably get the parts but must know the number or what the parts are called--i'm not sure of that and can't find any pictures and she can't find out either. My back wheels are 24inch like a wheelchair and the front--With the problem is 8inch or a bit over 8. My wife can't hardly get me to the shower and a new one cost $ 900 or more, that we can't afford!
. ( Does anyone have an idea how I can find out how to get the front end replacement parts ?
 Thanks so much, Dan

I was just thinking about something. I have three strong pet peeves
 1. people who lie
 2. people who are late - even myself
 3. people who boast

What are some of your pet peeve's?

People who come from behind when your driving just to slow down in front of you and turn.
People who park in van only handicap parking in a little car and run up to the store.
People who are always trying to rush you.
Peoplethat say yeah i was in one of those once (wheelchair) i know how you feel.
And finally people who fart in elavators and smile while doing it! LOL
