Well Danny welcome to the list. Joining this list was one of the best things I did, of course I didn't join until I was about three or four years along. So, you are well ahead of me. As many people have indicated, the first few years are the worst. I sincerely hope you stay on the list and learn as much as possible as well as providing us with some of your points of view. You know Dave I have been thinking about the crystal ball over the last month. In fact, when I was just in the hospital for my tri-annual colonoscopy I kept thinking about how ironic it was that I had a colonoscopy performed when I was 32 years old during which a precancerous polyp was discovered. If I hadn't been injured and had difficulties with my bowels I wouldn't have known I had this polyp until it was too late. Perhaps I would have lived another 10 or 15 years, but would I have wanted to die of cancer or live a prolonged life as a quadriplegic? It really is debatable. I have met so many great people since I've been injured and for the most part really enjoy my life, but like everyone else I have suffered as a result of being a quad. Looking back on the crystal ball is probably not the best thing to do and I try to avoid it at all costs. Metaphorically scratching my head pondering this issue. Welcome Danny- My name is Tim, I am a c5-c6 semi incomplete quad (19 yrs. post as of Aug. 7th.) I am 41 and married. My wife and I run a handcrafted jewelry business www.whoopiekatjewelry.com . I am always sorry to hear of people becoming paralyzed, because those of us that have been there know how tough it is. However- the stronger you stay mentally, the healthier you will remain. Dear Silas, Your seeing a doctor and you should mention that it was important enough for you to write it, it is a valid problem. It is not good for you to feel that way and I know your not feeling anything abnormal. That doctor knows you don't have to feel that way. Part of your injury inhibits your ability to draw on the emotional strength you have at the right moments. Oh Dave, I have been injured 10 plus years and and still trying to find my way. My biggest obstacle was my health, from pneumonia, to bladder infections and pressure sores. I struggled through school but jobs are hard to come by. Sometimes I feel myself a failure at not having progressed or achieved as much as I want or expected. Edward, I was hurt in 67 and got my 1st REAL job in 79. I taught school a little but I didn't consider that a real job. Believe it or not, I think this stuff really gets easier as you go. I'm sure it's because we just get more used to it but none the less. it's easier the farther I go. I signed up with the state placement agencys, and many private placement agencys. I was a sr. network engineer for a good data/telecom company. I have a fiancé and family that takes care of me. I was in a horrible car accident. I broke c2,c6 and c7 and was on a vent for a while. I went to rehab at craig hospital and had most my surgerys there. I have a colostomy, and a super pubic catheter . I was originaly fused from skull to t1. I use a quadjoy and dragon naturally speaking/onscreen keyboard to use the computer and vonage for a phone. For fun I play video games with my family/friends. Sorry to see you going through this Silas - remember, many of us have been there. Most have lost the mate they were with 'before', many of us have questioned God's 'wisdom', and all of us are wondering what else can go wrong. I'm sure had I not broken my neck, I'd have been dead by now - Mach II with my hair on fire don't-cha-know. I even drool now at these highly over powered crotch rockets and sky divers. Hi Danny. I am not a quad but my boyfriend is. I know he had a terrible time when he first got hurt. That was 5 years ago. Sometimes he still has periods that are hard. Just hang in there. What is good for me, may not be good for you or any one else... for that matter. I'm sorry for you and those around you, that you are an incomplete quad. I'm also sure that you have a great history to share with all of us, when the time is right. Where did you do your rehab and how long were you in rehab? Welcome to this list. Granted there are others. But I don't think you will find an equal list of so many qualified quads offering some great advise based on their personal experiences.
