RE: [Quantum Owners] Saloon rear wheel bearings.

Jim’s method is good, ISTR there is also an alternative (from Haynes manual?)
to tighten nut to 20NM then slacken off by ¼ turn IIRC. Jim, correct me if I’m
wrong, but aim is to not have excessive play, but more importantly there must
be some play. Martin

Assuming the rear brakes are Mk2 Fiesta as normal on the saloon, there should
not be a spacer between the bearings.
I can only assuming somebody fitted one as they were incorrectly over
tightening the hub nut.

On the Mk1 and Mk2 fiesta the hub nut is only tightened enough to take the play
out of the bearings.
Fit the wheel and feel for play in the bearings by rocking the rim , very
gently tighten the nut until you can't feel the play anymore.
Spin the wheel and tighten the nut a little more until you can feel a slight
drag and then back it off very slightly.
Then fit the cage and the split pin onto the nut to lock it.
