Re: [Quantum Owners] Fire extinguisher

2017-05-29 Thread 'jonathan jackson' via Quantum Owners Group
Yes indeed a good tale that has a safe ending. Last year while welding in my
workshop attached to my garage  I set fire to some thinners which resulted in a
blaze!  I rushed out shouting FIRE in true Basil Fawlty style to alert wife
grabbing my extinguisher as I went, I was in full panic mode as I tried to
operate the damn thing and managed to get it going and rushed back in to put
the fire out. I could have lost my workshop/garage as well as the wifes
pristine MX5 my Quantum and my Special that I built 3 years ago. We look back
and laugh about it now but fire spreads so fast its frightening.

Just keep an eye on the age of the extinguishers, both my cars have had them in

Re: [Quantum Owners] Fire extinguisher

2017-05-22 Thread Susan and Martin Scott
Wow,
Thankfully a happy outcome. Surprised they didn't see/smell it at MOT. I had
exactly the same thing (leak from hose) at MOT retest on the Rickman last year
which I (and the tester) know wasn't there the day before! This
(Geoff's)particular incident may or may not be a direct result of the changing
cocktail of fuel which seems to be ever changing. John Dickens penned a good
article in CKC (last year? ...time flies) about the ethanol which is being
added to petrol, and the way it can eat through hoses, metal tubes and
carburetters is both eye-opening and frightening! Makes one wonder about the
perceived wisdom of excluding older cars (more likely to have incompatible
hoses) from the MOT test. Be safe out there.
