The Mk1 I saw on eBay had curved pipes, so maybe that is the difference?

It's not like you need the heater in this weather!

DON'T be tempted to get a MK3 matrix, hoping it will fit as it looks the

That whole heater unit is a good price, but you only need the matrix,
which is essentially a small radiator. I would expect the matrix in that
one might be old, so worth getting a new one too.

The matrix is similar to this Mk1 Fiesta one

You can get the matrix out without removing the entire heater unit, as per
your eBay find as this sits at the bottom, and can probably be accessed
easily by removing your centre console. The pipes in the engine bay can be
awkward yo get at.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Leak From Inside Car - 2+2

2017-06-22 Thread Jim Hearne

If it's only a small leak, yes.

What happens usually is that the water collects in the lower heater
cover so watch out when you remove it.

You will also find that if the weather gets colder that the windscreen
will mist up if you try and use the fan.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Leak From Inside Car - 2+2

2017-06-22 Thread Jim Hearne
If it is the matrix, try and find a genuine Ford one with Aluminium fins
and plastic pipes and end caps.

The pattern ones tend to be copper fins and pipes, don't fit very well
and seem to produce far less heat than the Ford ones.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Leak From Inside Car - 2+2

2017-06-22 Thread Jim Hearne
Yes, agree, heater matrix, or if the pipes aren't sealed very well in
the engine bay it could one one of the hose connections to the heater.

At least it can be changed from inside the car without removing the dash.

I don't actually know the part number for the metal clips as I've always
been able to get the cover unclipped without breaking them (famous last
words).

Knowing they are very delicate probably helps.
