[qubes-users] Identifying label from within AppVM

2016-06-12 Thread nicklausmcclendon
Is there any mechanism to identify what label the AppVM has from with in it?
I'm looking for a (hopefully) automated way to make other colors match the
label, i.e. have my terminal prompt and tmux bar be green in green AppVMs and
red in red AppVMs.

Re: [qubes-users] debian 8, rc.local not running

2016-06-12 Thread Drew White
Unman,

That code is just what I have int hat NetVM.
As I said, rund fine running from CLI, but not on boot.
Does not make sense when it works fine on Fedora 20, 21 & 23 (normal and
minimal [ if services I use and call are installed ] )

Yes, I have taken out specific bits of code that I have that do things that
set up all things that I have, but they are no of consequence as to why the
file isn't executing.
The details there are just the basics for the external VM, many other
options are set in the firewall settings.
Many others are executed from Dom0 when I boot specific machines.

The original file is a LOT longer. But that's the basic one for the general
NetVM.

Hope you can help.

Went with legacy mode and everything was fine. I'm single booting Qubes on
this machine... This is a testbed machine, not my main laptop, so I'd be
happy to volunteer to test 3.2 UEFI issues on the X220 if that would be of

[qubes-users] I would like to Install Qubes OS with the smallest footprint

2016-06-12 Thread jonprice396
Hi guys, I would like to install Qubes OS (\system)in the Smallest Foot
possible while running VMapps and any other functions from a separate \VMS
partition.

Any advise on how this may work and what I might need to adjust. Also what is
Qubes OS foot print? Recommendations stay you need at least 32Gb to complete
the installation. How much of that is required for \system (root).

Thanks

J

David,

if you look at Drew's output you will see that the file is already
executable, so this will not be his problem.

It's clearly stated in the docs that you need to apply chmod +x:
Look at https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/config-files/

Interesting. I will try again with the 3.2 RC then. I can edit the xen.cfg

losing by ditching UEFI?

I guess I'll have to go the insecure route you suggested, because I have no CLI
skills, but I was trying to avoid it, as per the Qubes documentation. Ho hum.

Yes, it appears one does need to learn CLI in order to use Qubes. I'd
originally understood the team's aim was widespread adoption by anyone
privacy-minded, and hoped that included me (a Mac user), but perhaps I was
expecting too much!

Thanks again for your feedback, QC

I would be remiss if I didn't suggest the second option in the vpn doc:
You can create a proxy vm and enable network manager in that. The
advantages are that the directions are mouse-driven, and your password
will be pretty safe.

Yes, this is one of the project's aims. We haven't reached it yet, but
we're continuing to work on it. The pace of development is, of course,
constrained by practical considerations like funding (which would be
required in order to hire more developers).
