Re: [qubes-users] MP3 support

2016-07-23 Thread neilhardley
Yeah. I have a major problem with VLC though.

Whenever I close VLC, it causes all the windows for App VM to disappear from
the task bar.

Then when I open another app, they all come back.

It also disables all future VLC playback. Once I close VLC once, it never works
again after, until I restart the App VM.

[qubes-users] [code] Testers wanted: Bluetooth dead man's switch

2016-07-23 Thread Andrew
Hello,

I have made proper RPMs out of the dead man's switch code posted to the
list a few years back. The code can be found here:
https://github.com/kbrn/qubes-app-dms. Pre-built RPMs are attached.
These packages have already been tested on my machine and Work for Me™.

The code comes in three packages:
-qubes-app-dms: for Dom0, contains the core files for dead man's switch
action
-qubes-app-dms-timeout: for Dom0, contains files and config necessary to
trigger the dead man's switch after (by default) 2h of a locked screen
-qubes-app-dms-bluetooth: for a TemplateVM, configured inside AppVM,
contains files and config necessary to trigger the dead man's switch by
absence of a specific previously-seen Bluetooth device.

These both need configuration post-install. See the README.md for more
information. Patches for .deb building or other dead man's switch
triggers are very appreciated!

Marek, what are the prospects of getting this in the Qubes repos? What
else needs to be done?

Andrew

Can you clarify what you mean by "MP3 support"?

FWIW, I installed VLC media player in a Fedora 23 template, and I have no
problem using it to play mp3s.

Yes, I did. I got impatient and did a fresh install, and it's working, now.

Did you make sure to fully shut down the Debian 8 TemplateVM after making your

Was this machine fully updated before running the update command
containing qubes-release? Do you normally use updates-testing or
security-testing? You might try getting all updates from qubes*testing
first, then reboot and run the command containing qubes-release.

[qubes-users] Debian VM isn't persistent for me

2016-07-23 Thread arthur . summers
I created an AppVM based on the Debian 8 template. I DID modify the template to
add the Google Chrome repository and GPG key, but otherwise, I did nothing.
Now, whenever I shut down my AppVM, changes seem to be lost - Chrome starts up
fresh with all settings reset, and the keyring pops up to ask me for a
password. Since I just did a fresh install of Qubes yesterday, I'm considering
just reinstalling, but this is a little odd...
