Hello, did you run "Add more shortcuts" at least once (look which apps
are there)? I got very confused by this point in another, maybe related
situation: when changing the templateVM you *must* do so, since symbolic
links to all apps are different in fedora and debian, for example. All
the best, Bernhard

I really didn't want to add a windows vm, just wanted to get some of my stuff off from
it. I found how to "add block devices", but after that I'm guessing it won't
read windows file system...

I'm hoping there's an easy way to do this... ???

After you attached it, did you check in Files/Nautilus?

Easiest way... Boot up the drive in the guest as attached for boot to allow it
to install everything, after that, boot up using clonezilla or something and
just do that.

Otherwise, DD the drive to an image with options set to allow qemu type. That
is, allow it to be "thin".

Hope that makes sense.

I dont see this behaviour in a TemplateBased qube, or a standalone.
In both, the browser just opens.
That's with a standard Debian-8 template.

You can try running with '-p' option to see if any errors are being
thrown.

If you install fuse-exfat (from the rpmfusion-free repo) in the
template used by sys-usb, then Nautilus (the default file manager)
should be able to auto-mount them and they should Just Work(TM). At

Yes, it should work rather easily. Please describe, in detail, (1)
what you expect to happen, (2) the exact steps you're performing in an

I recommend instead using a password manager, such as KeePassX, and
the Qubes inter-VM clipboard. This setup has worked very well for the
vast majority of Qubes users for many years, myself included.

By default, a DispVM inherits the color of the VM that created it (if
any). The color of the DispVM does not change the way it works, so the
fact that it is black instead of red should not matter (except
aesthetically).

Right now, it's very difficult. I just try to be very careful when
entering passphrases. If I have insufficient privacy, I don't enter
them at all. Once per-VM encryption is implemented, it should help
with many aspects of this problem:

Instead of using this script you can just use `scrot` command from dom0.
You need to download it first from qubes-dom0-update --action=install
scrot. It's easy to use, refer to `scrot --help` for clue from your dom0
after install. Then you can transfer the image to appvm by using
qvm-copy-to-vm or qvm-move-to-vm command.

Another good alternative I found was
https://github.com/evadogstar/qvm-screenshot-tool. Easy to use with GUI
and transfer screenshot to imgur service too!

if it works using
sh snapshot.sh
in Dom0 terminal

then creating a shortcut is a bit more complicated, the file should be made
executable and look at this:
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/30272/how-to-create-shortcut-in-launcher/
but I have not tried to do it.

Once you have created your snapshot.sh file make sure that it is executable by
typing "chmod +x snapshot.sh" in the same directory as your snapshot.sh is
located, remove the quotations. Once you have taken a screenshot it should be
located in ~/Pictures. To execute the shell script you can use either of the
following or create a custom launcher:
./snapshot.sh
sh snapshot.sh
bash snapshot.sh

Sorry for the top post, I knew better! :)

Ok, I think I am almost there. I am still confused on how the shellscript is
invoked. Do I create a shortcut that activates this? Once I have the shell
script in dom0, how do I invoke it from a screen print?

Thanks,
Patrick

If it works you'll find the pictures in Qubesincoming/Domo fold of the VM

ok. you have to create a file called for example snapshot.sh where you
write the above. For doing that I use:
vim snapshot.sh
then digit "i" that allows me to insert the above text
at the end ":x" to save

after that
sh snapshot.sh to execute

rm ~/Pictures/*.*

but you can use only the last but one line if you want it even simplier.
The other lines are only to speed it up.

[qubes-users] Copy/Paste images

2017-02-08 Thread Patrick Bouldin
Hi everyone,

One important thing that really keeps me back from totally converting to qubes
is the inability to create documents with screenshots. On a windows pc I can of
course do a screen print, then quickly crop the image and paste it right in a
document.

This seems extremely difficult in qubes. I do see someone created some image
copy/paste between domains here:
http://jrruethe.github.io/blog/2015/09/17/screenshots-in-qubes/

Am I missing something basic or will I need to do something like that?

Thanks,
Patrick

If fedora24 is indeed your default template, try:
[user@dom0 ~]$ qvm-create-default-dvm --default-template

If that does not work it may be a bug worth reporting. As a workaround, try:
[user@dom0 ~]$ qvm-create-default-dvm

I want something similar to this too, but there are several things
which need to be implemented first in order for it to be able to be
implemented securely, particularly splitting out the desktop
environment / window manager / main gui out from dom0.

https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/833

Progress is being made, albeit rather slowly. More funding would
accelerate this work ;)

I've tried both, and created an email vm with iprules "deny everything
except"

But then neither vm(s) will connect.

Is there a proper way to do this?

Or will I have to do the tinyproxy thing I've read elsewhere ?

I've tried both solution some time ago and definitly the tinyproxy solution
works much better and can handle nicely dns round robin or servers behind
load balancers. By the way this solution offer an other nice possibility,
you can use regular expressions and for example allow .*\.mycompany\.com$ on
the conter-part, you will have to trust the dns resolution.

Look also for modules like 'request policy' and 'no script' or
'policeman' that implements nice GUI allowing both types in a single
place.

Request policy + 'ask for reload permission' should be enough to
control in a single VM for a few banks in single place.
Not that secure as proxying and denying in some other VM, but easy +
GUI controls + require some configuration work at start.

Good recommendations. I'll add one to that list: HttpsEverywhere.

It will keep you from accidentally accessing pages in unencrypted form.
You can also set it to allow only https (although some banks may use a
mix of https and http).

Actually now, when I run 'make install', it reports this:

WARNING: missing /lib/modules/4.9.2
Ensure all necessary drivers are built into the linux image!
depmod: ERROR: could not open directory /lib/modules/4.9.2: No such file or
directory
depmod: FATAL: could not search modules: No such file or directory

When I run 'dkms autoinstall -k 4.9.2 -a amd64', it reports:

Error! Your kernel headers for kernel 4.9.2 cannot be found.
Please install the linux-headers-4.9.2 package,
or use the --kernelsourcedir option to tell DKMS where it's located

But linux-headers-4.9.2 is in /usr/src.
