Since 6.2 is only available in "experimental" Debian, I'm
assuming you used the deb packages from libreoffice.
These instal the binaries under /opt with links under /usr/local/bin

This works in the template, but not in appVMs because /usr/local is
mounted from /rw/usrlocal in Template Based qubes.

In the appVM create the links yourself in /usr/local/bin - at a minimum:
sudo ln -s /opt/libreoffice6.2/program/soffice libreoffice6.2

That will enable the "libreoffice 6.2" menu item for the launcher.

If you want other menu items then you'll have to create relevant links
yourself.

Re: [qubes-users] Re: New Install is Missing sys-USB, How to recover

unman:

Not quite as simple as that.
sys-usb is created with label red, mem 300, and virt-mode hvm.
Also autostart is True, and pci_strictreset is false.

You also need to disable memory balancing. However, only that and HVM
mode are required in the VM config to support a sys-usb, and both are
mentioned in the configuration when you add a PCI device.
Pci_strictreset varies by USB controller, although the majority do need it.

Ray - if you look in /srv/formulas.base/virtual-machines-formula/qvm you
will find the salt file sys-usb.sls. That is what is run when you
execute the qubesctl command, and you'll see there the reference to
sys-net.

Interesting, on mine the button on the toolbar works, but not the menu
entry. Try it from the menu on yours. If neither works, use qubes-prefs
in the command line. Next, search qubes-issues on Github to see if
anyone's submitted the bug yet. If not, create an new issue describing

Which options did you add? Nvidia cards often cause problems. Can you

Roll your template back to the earlier version

Create an AppVM, disable networking, and assign your USB controllers to

The default Xen video driver does not support DirectX/hardware

Not really any source that describes a one to one mapping. You can use
"dnf search" to search for packages or your favorite web search.
Alternatively, sometimes you can try to build things and it will fail

You might want to have a look at my offline mail setup described here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Qubes/comments/9q76f2/splitmail_setup/

It lacks anti-spam/anti-virus part (which is a cool idea, I'll implement this)
but otherwise is close to what you describe.

You mean "sudo qubes-dom0-update i3 i3-settings-qubes" ? That's all one
needs to do.

That makes me thing you missed the i3-settings-qubes package.

[qubes-users] Kernel 4.14.103-1 dmenu is not working

2019-05-02 Thread eduzwawi
Hey guys I migrated from arch to qubes. But I am having some difficulties with
I3 windows manager I am fairly new to qubes. I like how I can still use my
favorite arch distro. and benefit from qubes' secured architecture.

I followed the instructions to install i3 windows manager but the system became
incredibly laggy slow after installing it. For example, I am in a browser and
scrolling down and the screen will freeze/lag and then stop scrolling. I gotta
click anywhere on screen for the screen to keep scrolling down or up .. It will
also freeze when I am inside a terminal typing a command and I have to click
anywhere inside the terminal for the command to completely print.

And dmenu doesn't work. $mod+d does nothing. Typing "i3-dmenu-desktop" gives an
error message "invalid input: "" doesn't match any application. Your command:
exec --no startup-id ""
Error: expected one of these tokens: '--no-startup-id',

My machine is lenovo e570, i7 skylake, gtx950, 16G ddr4, nvme

On xfce everything seems to work fine.. Anyone else experiencing the same
things with i3

[qubes-users] [Qubes 4.0/Debian 9] LibreOffice 6.2.3 doesn't start

2019-05-02 Thread schwoereraxel
Hello everyone !

I uninstalled an old version of LibreOffice (I did sudo apt-get remove --purge
libreoffice*) to put the latest version (6.2.3) on the Debian 9 template but it
is impossible for me to run LibreOffice, nothing is happening. I tried to
install another version, but it doesn't work.

I use Qubes 4.0 on a SanDisk Extreme Pro 256gb USB 3.1 key
Any solutions?

Thank you in advance
Axel

There might be clues in the firewall VM's logs. You can see them
with Qubes Manager (right-click on mirage-firewall and choose Logs
-> guest-mirage-firewall.log). Open the logs just after booting
Windows and seeing that networking doesn't work and look at the end.

You can also do "sudo xl console mirage-firewall" in dom0 to follow
the logs and then boot Windows and watch for new entries.

Hi All,

Thanks to Thomas efforts and patience, now Mirage for Qubes can be used
by Windows 10 Pro (HVM) users as a lightweight alternative to sys-firewall.

For those interested, please see on GitHub:
https://github.com/mirage/qubes-mirage-firewall/issues/56

Best

[qubes-users] Qubes & guix to prevent image bloat/multiplication?

2019-05-02 Thread Johannes Graumann
I became aware of guix through an announcement that it is now 1.0 (
https://www.gnu.org/software/guix/blog/2019/gnu-guix-1.0.0-released/)
as it purportedly allows environment install/maintenance in user space,
I was wonderung whether anyone has used it on qubes to install appVM
specific software only there without having to customize/inflate the
underlying images with software. Experiences? Thoughts?

Sincerely, Joh

[qubes-users] Install of R4.0.1 stops before anaconda

Hi,

I would really like to test and learn to use Qubes OS, but can't install it. I
have followed the installation troubleshooting guide and didn't find any advice
there on my current problem.

First I couldn't get past the EFI booting stage but adding options from the

since it spews out messages if I plug in and usb device and ctrl+alt+del works.

Don't know what to try next...

Hi,
(more or less) same problem here. On my laptop shutdown-idle only works with
Fedora-based VMs. It has never worked with Debian/Whonix-based VMs.

If somebody could help that would be great.
