[RBW] New Google format
Am I missing something or does the new Group format lack any method to forward a message? I wanted to forward the discussion of the SFR to my son, who lives in the area. It appears one could post a response and cc someone, but that's it. michael -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Chain Tensioners
Hi David, I used the Surly chain tensioner and was not terribly impressed with it -- it's a fairly simple component, so all I really ask is that it just works. I had lots of little issues with it. The biggest problem was that the floating pulley bar (for lateral adjustment) kept loosening up, no matter how hard I'd tighten it down. Eventually the pulley bar actually fell off during a ride, which is not a good position to find yourself in. I partially blame myself for continuing to use a part that wasn't working right, but still... Anyway, just my limited experience. If you don't need the extra lateral adjustment, the Shimano looks like a better option, but I haven't used it. [RBW] Does Marathon 700x47 work with Tubus Tara?
I know there's some folks on this list that use Tubus racks. I'm wonder if anyone knows if the Tara will work with the Schwalbe Marathon 700x47 (actual 41) that RBW sells. I'm currently running those Schwalbes on my LHT and am considering a Tara rack. If the clearance is tight I'd probably just go wit the Tubus Duo. Re: [RBW] Does Marathon 700x47 work with Tubus Tara?
Hi Mike, Here are some photos that will help you get a better idea of the clearances when Tara is mounted: https://picasaweb.google.com/jblish/TubusTaraOnRANSCrankForwardDynamikFork?authkey=Gv1sRgCOGkrLTLqvmU3AE The tire on this bike is 26 x 1.5 Kenda cheapie. You can see that your 47 (or actual 41) will easily fit if I am understanding the question. In the 3rd picture you will see the silver spacers I added to make sure the connection at the dropout would clear the bulbous fork blade. There was no problem asking Tara to spread just a bit to accommodate that larger opening at the bottom and no damage at all to the rack by doing that. The rack has some give and spring to it. The last photo is prior to Tara being mounted with Tubus Cargo (meant for 700 tire but I wasn't going to buy a new one for 26 just because of that) on the rear. Additional questions happily answered. I like the Tara a lot. Helps permit this bike that was not designed for touring to operate as a loaded tourer. -jb On Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 10:25 AM, Mike mjawn...@gmail.com wrote: I know there's some folks on this list that use Tubus racks. [RBW] Mission Peak - S240
Short trip up Mission Peak. Rode up the from the Ohlone College side and took my good friend Tommy. We all have friends like my friend Tommy. You know those type of guys that just ride like a demon. Funny thing is that I introduced him into cycling. And after one year the buddy I was taking on short rides is leaving me eat his dust. Lucky for me being weighted down with camp gear and walking up steep fire roads is the great equalizer. We got to camp and hiked to the top of Mission Peak to cook dinner. Sadly we forget the dinner at my apartment and we were stuck eating breakfast for dinner. Bacon and Bacon. At the top of Mission Peak we surveyed the beautiful lights of Fremont and San Jose. We played with a handful of shots. Great night great trip. [RBW] I'm now OFFICIALLY a riv owner!
After a nearly unbearable wait I'm finally a riv owner!!! I drove down on Saturday and picked up my 67cm AHH frame! It's a work of art! I went with a custom color, and after many hours of second guessing my decision I finally got to see it! I have to admit that it came out a lot lighter than I expected from the paint chip, and I was a little bit upset when I first saw it, but once I started hanging shiny bits on it I started to realize that it's probably a lot nicer than what I'd originally asked for, and it's really growing on me -- I think now that it's a really nice color! [The big reveal coming once the shiny bits are properly hung :-) ]. So, speaking of shiny bits... there's one rather important one that I haven't decided on yet! Wheels! I really like the classic polished hubs, and this bike is beautiful and really deserves some nice looking hubs, but a set of Rivy hubs approach the the amount that I was hoping to spend on the entire wheelset! I considered the VO Grand Cru hubs, which are a bit cheaper, but they don't have the 32 spoke hubs that I wanted (I like the look of 32 spoke hubs, and I'm a lightweight rider for my height, I have a touring bike for the heavy loaded stuff). I like freewheels, and 7 speeds is perfect [prefer it over 9], but am probably leaning more toward a cassette just because quality freewheels are getting harder to find. The problem that I'm having is that it's harder to find 135 mm hubs that meet these requirements than 130 mm hubs, as 135 mm stuff is usually MTB oriented and more colorful (usually anodized). So, I'm starting to think about maybe getting a set of road hubs and buying a new axle and respacing it... anybody ever done that? Is it hard to find proper axles? It looks like Harris sells all the parts that I need... Thanks! -Rex -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. I'm thinking about selling my Albatross cockpit minus the bar end shifters. Would prefer not to do any additional disassembly since the shellacked cork grips would be destroyed in the process. It includes the bars, Shimano very nice silver colored brake levers for cantilever or sidepulls and a Nitto 12cm 25.4mm stem so no shims are needed. Everything is in brand new condition as it was on the Betty that has barely been ridden. Due to the success I've had with the Nitto Touring bars on the Atlantis, I'm setting up the Betty with a set of Yuma Mondolo bars that are similar and I had gotten from St. John Cycles in England before discovering the Nitto version. Let me know if you're interested to start calculating the price. I just pulled the cockpit down yesterday afternoon. [RBW] Re: I'm now OFFICIALLY a riv owner!
I'd just get some of those VO 36 spoke hubs.what do four spokes weigh? More spokes= stronger wheel. I rode 36'ers when I weighed 168 pounds as did millions. The VO hubs look pretty nice and shiny plus they are easily disassembled. The Velo Orange dudes are really into all the shiny, chrome, vintage look, anywayI'll bet you would be happy with them. Just sayin.. On Jun 27, 10:54 am, Rex Kerr rexk...@gmail.com wrote: After a nearly unbearable wait I'm finally a riv owner!!!
